Parsley: a review of ethnopharmacology, phytochemistry and biological activities

OBJECTIVE:To summarize comprehensive information concerning ethnomedicinal uses, phytochemistry, and pharmacological activities of parsley. METHODS: Databases including PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, and Web of Science were searched for studies focusing on the ethnomedicinal use, phytochemical compounds and biological and pharmacological activities of parsley. Data were collected from 1966 to 2013. The search terms were: "Parsley" or "Petroselinum crispum" or "Petroseli-num hortence ". RESULTS: Parsley has been used as carminative, gastro tonic, diuretic, antiseptic of urinary tract, anti-urolithiasis, anti-dote and anti-inflammatory and for the treatment of amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, gastrointestinal disorder, hypertension, cardiac disease, urinary disease, otitis, sniffle, diabetes and also various dermal disease in traditional and folklore medicines. Phenolic compounds and flavonoids particularly apigenin, apiin and 6"-Acetylapiin; essential oil mainly myristicin and apiol; and also coumarins are the active compounds identified in Petroselinum crispum. Wide range of pharmacological activity including antioxidant, hepatoprotective, brain protective, anti-diabetic, analgesic, spasmolytic, immunosuppressant, anti-platelet, gastroprotective, cytoprotective, laxative, estrogenic, diuretic, hypotensive, antibacterial and antifungal activities have been exhibited for this plant in modern medicine. CONCLUSION: It is expectant that this study resulted in improvement the tendencies toward Petroselinum crispum as a useful and important medicinal plant with wide range of proven medicinal activity.

Essential oils used in aromatherapy: A systemic review

Nowadays, use of alternative and complementary therapies with mainstream medicine has gained the momentum. Aromatherapy is one of the complementary therapies which use essential oils as the major therapeutic agents to treat several diseases. The essential or volatile oils are extracted from the flowers, barks, stem, leaves, roots, fruits and other parts of the plant by various methods. It came into existence after the scientists deciphered the antiseptic and skin permeability properties of essential oils. Inhalation, local application and baths are the major methods used in aromatherapy that utilize these oils to penetrate the human skin surface with marked aura. Once the oils are in the system, they remodulate themselves and work in a friendly manner at the site of malfunction or at the affected area. This type of therapy utilizes various permutation and combinations to get relief from numerous ailments like depression, indigestion, headache, insomnia, muscular pain, respiratory problems, skin ailments, swollen joints, urine associated complications etc. The essential oils are found to be more beneficial when other aspects of life and diet are given due consideration. This review explores the information available in the literature regarding therapeutic, medical, cosmetic, psychological, olfactory, massage aromatherapy, safety issues and different plants used in aromatherapy. All the available information was compiled from electronic databases such as Academic Journals, Ethnobotany, Google Scholar, PubM ed, Science Direct, Web of Science, and library search.

In the medical profession,recent technological advancements play an essential role in the early detection and categorization of many diseases that cause *** technique rising on daily basis for detecting illness in magnetic resonance through pictures is the inspection of ***(computerized)illness detection in medical imaging has found you the emergent region in several medical diagnostic *** diseases that cause death need to be identiﬁed through such techniques and technologies to overcome the mortality *** brain tumor is one of the most common causes of *** have already proposed various models for the classiﬁcation and detection of tumors,each with its strengths and weaknesses,but there is still a need to improve the classiﬁcation process with improved efﬁ***,in this study,we give an in-depth analysis of six distinct machine learning(ML)algorithms,including Random Forest(RF),Naïve Bayes(NB),Neural Networks(NN),CN2 Rule Induction(CN2),Support Vector Machine(SVM),and Decision Tree(Tree),to address this gap in improving *** the Kaggle dataset,these strategies are tested using classiﬁcation accuracy,the area under the Receiver Operating Characteristic(ROC)curve,precision,recall,and F1 Score(F1).The training and testing process is strengthened by using a 10-fold cross-validation *** results show that SVM outperforms other algorithms,with 95.3%accuracy.

Evaluation of preventable trauma death in emergency department of Imam Reza hospital

BACKGROUND: Trauma is considered as a worldwide problem despite socio-economic development. Motor vehicle accidents(MVAs) are the most important cause of trauma. Trauma related deaths are mostly preventable. This study aimed to investigate the causes and prevention of death in trauma ***: This retrospective, descriptive-analytic study assessed 100 trauma patients referred to our emergency department(ed) from January 2013 to Januanry 2015. The included patients were those with trauma died after arrival at our ed. Age, sex, cause of trauma, clinical causes of death, causes of death def ined by autopsy, way of transfer to the ed, time of ambulance arrival at the scene of trauma, and time elapsed to enter the ed from the scene of trauma were ***: In the 100 patients, 21(21%) patients were female and 79(79%) male. Fortythree patients were older than 60 years. Trauma was largely due to pedestrian accidents in 31% of the patients, and 33% had a hypo-volemic shock. About 80% of deaths were due to intra-cranial hemorrhage(ICH) or intra-ventricular hemorrhage(IVH), and spinal injuries were not preventable. Autopsy revealed that 28% of the patients suffered from internal injuries. Autopsy revealed that 19% of the deaths were not preventable and 81% were considered preventable. In our patients, 76 were transferred to the hospital by emergency medicine services(EMS). Analysis of time for ambulance arrival to the scene and frequency of death revealed that 52.2% of the deaths occurred between 11 and 15 minutes. Analysis of time for admission to the ed from the scene of trauma showed that 74.6% deaths occurred between 6 and 10 ***: The rate of hospital preventable deaths is about 80%, a high mortality rate, which denotes a lack of proper diagnosis and treatment. The time for arrival of EMS at the scene of trauma is longer than that in other countries.

The coast and benefits of helicopter emergency medical services instead of the ground unit in traumatic patients: A cost-effectiveness analysis

Study objective: Aero medical crews offer an advanced level of practice and rapid transport to definitive care;however, their efficacy remains unproven. Previous studies have used relatively small sample sizes or have been unable to adequately control the effect of other potentially influential variables. Here we explore the impact of aeromedical response in patients with moderate to severe traumatic brain injury. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study using our county trauma registry. All patients with trauma injury, who referred to our emergency department by helicopter or car, were included. The impact of aeromedical response was determined using logistic regression, adjusting for age, sex, mechanism, preadmissionGlasgowComa Scale score and?Injury Severity Score. Finally, the aeromedical patients undergoing field intubation were compared with ground patients undergoing emergency department (ed) intubation. Results: A total of 243 patients meeting all inclusion and exclusion criteria and with complete data sets were identified. Overall mortality was 25% in the air- and ground-transported cohorts, but outcomes were not significantly better for the aeromedical patients when adjusted for age, sex, mechanism of injury, hypotension, Glasgow Coma Scale score, head Abbreviated Injury Score, and Injury Severity Score (adjusted odds ratio [OR] 1.90;95% confidence interval [CI] 1.60 to 2.25;P: 0001). Good outcomes (discharge to home, jail, psychiatric facility, rehabilitation, or leaving against medical advice) were also higher in aeromedical patients (adjusted OR 1.36;95% CI 1.18 to 1.58;P: 0001). Conclusion: Here we analyze a large database of patients with moderate to severe traumatic brain injury. Aeromedical response appears to yield no significantly improved outcomes after adjustment for multiple influential factors in patients with moderate to severe traumatic brain injury.
