Isolation of microcrystalline Cellulose from Wood and Fabrication of Polylactic Acid (PLA) Based Green Biocomposites

An innovative microcrystalline cellulose (mCC) natural fibre powder-reinforced PLA biocomposite was investigated using the hand lay-up technique. The polym.r.matrix composite (PmC) samples were prepared by varying the weight percentages (wt.%) of both PLA matrix and mCC reinforcement: pure PLA/100:0, 90:10, 80:20, 70:30, 60:40 and 50:50 wt.%, respectively. From the results obtained, mCC powder, with its im.r.ssive aspect ratio, proved to be an ideal reinforcement for the PLA, exhibiting exceptional mechanical properties. It was evident that the 80:20 wt.% biocomposite sample exhibited the maximum im.r.vement in the tensile, flexural, notched impact, com.r.ssive strength and hardness by 28.85%, 20.00%, 91.66%, 21.53% and 35.82%, respectively compared to the pure PLA sample. Similarly, during the thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), the same 80:20 wt.% biocomposite sample showed a minimum weight loss of 20% at 400°C, among others. The m.r.hological study using Field Emission Scanning Electron microscopy (FE-SEm) revealed that the uniform distribution of cellulose reinforcement in the PLA matrix actively im.r.ved the mechanical properties of the biocomposites, especially the optimal 80:20 wt.% sample. Importantly, it was evident that the optimal PLA/cellulose biocomposite sample could be a suitable and alternative sustainable, environmentally friendly and biodegradable material for semi/structural applications, replacing synthetic and traditional components. © 2024 The Authors.

Thermal energy storage(TES) systems use solar energy despite its irregular availability and day-night temperature *** work reports the thermal characterizations of solar salt-based phase change composites in the presence of graphene nanoplatelets(GNP).Solar salt(60:40 of NaNO_(3):KNO_(3)) possessing phase transition temperature and melting enthalpy of 221.01℃ and 134.58 kJ/kg is proposed as a phase change material(PCm) for high-temperature solar-based energy storage *** conductivity must be im.r.ved to make them suitable for widespread applications and to close the gap between the system needs where they are *** is added at weight concentrations of 0.1%,0.3%,and 0.5% with solar salt using the ball milling method to boost its thermal *** studies indicated the formation of a uniform surface of GNP on solar *** spectrum peaks identified the physical interaction between salt and *** characterization of the composites,such as thermal conductivity,DSC and TGA was carried out for the samples earlier and later 300 thermal cycles.0.5% of GNP has im.r.ved the thermal conductivity of salt by 129.67% and after thermal cycling,the enhancement reduced to 125.21% indicating that thermal cycling has a minor impact on thermal *** change temperature decreased by around 2.32% in the presence of0.5% GNP and the latent heat reduced by 4.34% after thermal *** thermograms depicted the composites initiated the weight loss at around 550℃ after which it was *** thermal cycling,the weight loss initiated at ~40℃ lower compared to pure salt,which was found to be a minor *** characterization of solar salt and GNP-based solar salt composites revealed that the composites can be used for enhanced heat transfer in high-temperature solar-based heat transfer and energy storage applications.

Perovskite solar cells(PSCs)have made great advances in terms of power conversion efficiency(PCE),yet their subpar stability continues to hinder their *** interface between the perovskite layer and the charge-carrier transporting layers plays a crucial role in undermining the stability of *** this work,we propose a strategy to stabilize high-performance PSCs with PCE over 23%by introducing a cesium-doped graphene oxide(GO-Cs)as an interlayer between the perovskite and hole-transporting *** GO-Cs treated PSCs exhibit excellent operational stability with a projected T80(the time where the device PCE reduces to 80%of its initial value)of 2143 h of operation at the maximum powering point under one sun illumination.

Intra-procedural arrhythmia during cardiac catheterization: A systematic review of literature

BACKGrOUND Cardiac catheterization is among the most performed medical procedures in the modern *** were sporadic reports indicating that cardiac arrhythmias are common during cardiac catheterization,and there are risks of developing serious and potentially life-threatening arrhythmias,such as sustained ventricular tachycardia(VT),ventricular fibrillation(VF)and high-grade conduction disturbances such as complete heart block(CHB),requiring immediate ***,there is lack of systematic overview of these *** To systematically review existing literature and gain better understanding of the incidence of cardiac arrhythmias during cardiac catheterization,and their impact on outcomes,as well as potential approaches to minimize this *** We applied a combination of terms potentially used in reports describing various cardiac arrhythmias during common cardiac catheterization procedures to systematically search Pubmed,EmBASE and Cochrane databases,as well as references of full-length *** During right heart catheterization(rHC),the incidence of atrial arrhythmias(premature atrial complexes,atrial fibrillation and flutter)was low(rrhythmias were usually transient and *** associated with the development of a new rBBB at a rate of 0.1%-0.3%in individuals with normal conduction system but up to 6.3%in individuals with pre-existing left bundle branch *** patients may require temporary pacing due to transient *** premature ventricular complexes or non-sustained VT are common during rHC(up to 20%of cases).Sustained ventricular arrhythmias(VT and/or VF)requiring either withdrawal of catheter or cardioversion occurred infrequently(1%-1.3%).During left heart catheterizations(LHC),the incidence of ventricular arrhythmias has declined significantly over the last few decades,from 1.1%historically to 0.1%*** overall reported rate of VT/VF in diagnostic LHC and coronary angiography is 0.8

In situ deposited cobalt-magnesium selenates as an advanced electrode for electrochemical energy storage

Currently,bimetallic selenates have attracted much attention as a prominent electrode composite material for supercapacitors owing to their higher redox chemistry and superior electrical ***,we synthesized cobalt-magnesium selenates (CoSeO3-mg Se O4,CmS) via a facile hydrothermal process,followed by *** first,cobalt-magnesium oxide (Co2.32mg0.68O4,CmO) was in situ prepared by a one-pot hydrothermal *** investigation on the m.r.hological change was performed by synthesizing the same CmO samples at different growth times by keeping the temperature *** CmO electrode designed for 8 h of growth time (CmO-8 h)with an attractive m.r.hology showed a higher areal capacity of 101.7μAh cm-2(at 3 m A cm-2) than the other CmO electrodes prepared for 6 and 10 *** exalted performance was achieved by the selenization of the CmO-8 h sample to form the CmS *** 3 m A cm-2,the resulted CmS exhibited nearly three times higher capacity,i.e.,385.4μAh cm-2,than the CmO-8 h ***,an asymmetric cell fabricated with CmS as a positive electrode also revealed good energy storage *** the applied voltage between 0 and 1.5 V,the asymmetric cell demonstrated maximum energy density of 0.159 m Wh cm-2(18.6 Wh kg-1) and maximum power density of 18.47 m W cm-2(1938 W kg-1),***,novel magnesium-based metal selenates can act as an efficient electrode for energy storage.
