Multicenter experience with photoselective vaporization of the prostate on men taking novel oral anticoagulants

Objective:Photoselective vaporization of the prostate(PVP)is a widely performed surgical procedure for benign prostatic *** approach has become particular favoured for men on anti-platelet and anticoagulation agents such as clopidogrel and warfarin but there is minimal published experience in the setting of novel oral anticoagulants(NOACs).This study was to examine the perioperative outcomes in men on NOACs undergoing PVP,with particular reference to perioperative ***:A retrospective analysis of PVP datasets was undertaken from three centres in Sydney(Australia),Toulouse(France)and Boston(USA).Subjects who had been treated whilst on NOACs without discontinuation or bridging were *** outcomes and treatment parameters were examined and morbidity recorded according to Clavien-Dindo(CD)***:There were a total of 20 subjects who had undergone PVP whilst NOACs had been continued during the perioperative *** mean age was 776.5 *** mean prostate volume,energy utilization and vaporisation time was 9456 mL,301211 kJ,and 3521 min *** mean postoperative duration of catheterization and duration of hospitalization was 2.22.4 days and 2.42.4 days *** was a single episode of urinary tract infection and four subjects required re-catheterisation for non-hematuric ***:This study supports the safety of men on NOACs undergoing *** this study represents the largest experience of PVP in these men,larger studies are necessary to confirm the safety of PVP in this group of men undergoing BPH-related surgery.

Effect of angioembolisation versus surgical packing on mortality in traumatic pelvic haemorrhage: A systematic review and meta-analysis

BACKGROUND: The management of complex pattern of bleeding associated with pelvic trauma remains a big challenge for trauma surgeons. We aimed to conduct a comprehensive meta-analysis to compare the outcomes of angioembolisation and pelvic packing in patients with pelvic ***: We conducted a systematic search of electronic information sources, including MEDLINE; EMBASE; CINAHL; the CENTRAL; the World Health Organization International Clinical Trials Registry; Clinical ***; ISRCTN Register, and bibliographic reference lists. The primary outcome was defined as mortality. Combined overall effect sizes were calculated using randomeffects models. Results are reported as the odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(CI).RESULTS: We identified 3 observational studies reporting a total of 120 patients undergoing angioembolisation(n=60) or pelvic packing(n=60) for pelvic trauma. Reporting of the Injury Severity Score(ISS) was variable, with higher ISS in the pelvic packing group. The risk of bias was low in two studies, and moderate in one. The pooled analysis demonstrated that angioembolisation did not significantly reduce mortality in patients with pelvic trauma compared to surgery(OR=1.99; 95% CI= 0.83–4.78, P=0.12). There was mild between-study heterogeneity(I^2=0%, P=0.65).CONCLUSION: Our analysis found no significant difference in mortality between angioembolisation and pelvic packing in patients with traumatic pelvic haemorrhage. The current level of evidence in this context is very limited and insufficient to support the superiority of a treatment modality. Future research is required.

Ensuring food security for the rapidly increasing population and changing climatic scenarios are requisites for exploiting the genetic divergence of food crops.A study was undertaken to sort out an early maturing chickpea variety for fitting easily between rice-rice cropping systems in the Eastern Indo-Gangetic Plain of *** trial was comprised of eight elite lines of chickpea and executed at various localities in Bangladesh from 2014–15 to 2017–*** result explored the chickpea genotype,BARI Chola-11 remained superior to the rest of the elite genotypes for having a short maturity period(100–106 days),and lesser days to 50%flowering(47–55 days).The same genotype was recorded to have robust vegetative and reproductive yield attributes including plant height(49–57 cm),podsplant−1(37–50),and optimum 100 seed weight(19.5–20.6 g).Owing to better yield attributes,BARI Chola-11 resulted in the maximum seed yield(1200–1500 kg ha-1)of chickpea and might be recommended for general adoption in the region for boosting nutritional security status through improved productivity under changing climate.

Geochemical Characteristics and Chemical Electron Microprobe U-Pb-Th Dating of Pitchblende Mineralization from Gabal Gattar Younger Granite, North Eastern Desert, Egypt

Pitchblende mineralization was studied in the younger granite samples collected from Gabal Gattar, north Eastern Desert, Egypt using electron scanning microscope (ESM) and electron probe microanalyses (EPMA). This study revealed that this pitchblende contains significant Zr content reaching up to (66.80% ZrO2), which suggests that volcanic rocks were probably the source of such a deposit. High level emplaced high-K Calc-alkaline plutons as Qattar granite may have been associated with their volcanic equivalent emplaced in the surrounding area or now eroded. Lead content of the pitchblende mineralization is high and with moderate volcanics (up to 7.71% PbO). In contrast, it is low in ThO2, Y2O3 and REE2O3. High Zr and Pb content associated with pitchblende mineralization from Gattar granite indicates that the source of this mineralization derived from volcanic magma not from granitic magma. According to the calculation of U-Pb chemical ages using U, Th and Pb content measured with an electron microprobe for this pitchblende yielded ages within 543 - 657 Ma indicating a Pan-African age for this mineralization. This is the first time that a Pan-African age (543 to 657 Ma) is recorded for a U-mineralization in Gabal Gattar younger granite in the north Eastern Desert, Egypt.

Transient carriage and low-level colonization of orally administrated lytic and temperate phages in the gut of mice

Many studies have shown the efficacy of phage therapy in reducing gastrointestinal ***,it is unclear whether phages can successfully colonize the gut when administered in an adequate amount for a long *** 1×10^(8)PFU/mL of purified lytic phage PA13076 or temperate phage BP96115 were fed daily to mice via drinking water over 31 days,to elucidate the distribution of phages in the gastrointestinal *** day 16 and 31,six different segments of the gastrointestinal tract with their contents,including stomach,duodenum,jejunum,ileum,cecum,colon,and fresh feces,were aseptically *** phage titers were determined using the double-layered plate method with *** ATCC 13076 or *** SPu-109 used as host *** results indicated that a small portion of administered phages survived exposure to gastric acid and entered the intestinal *** prevalence of phages in the gastrointestinal tract was lower than 1%of the primary phage *** phage titers were detected in the cecum with 10^(4)~10^(5)PFU/g,and most of the phages were eliminated from the body via feces with 10^(6)PFU/*** day 16 and day 31,the same level of phage titers in different segments of the gastrointestinal tract indicated that the colonization of phages had reached saturation at day *** results demonstrate transient phage carriage and low-level colonization of orally administrated lytic and temperate gut phages in mice.

Extraction of a novel tanning agent from indigenous plant bark and its application in leather processing

The use of vegetable tanning materials in leather processing has drawn attention as an alternative to basic chromium sulphate for its natural abundance and environmental aspects. In this work, an attempt has been made to extract veg-etable tannins from Xylocarpus granatum bark using different solvents (e.g., water, methanol, ethanol, and chloroform) and compare with conventional vegetable tanning agents such as mimosa and quebracho. The highest extraction efficiency was observed 31.22% by methanol. The presence of tannin content and polyphenolic compounds, e.g. (-)epicatechin (503 mg/100 g dry extract), catechin hydrate (218 mg/100 g dry extract), catechol (29 mg/100 g dry extract) were ensured by UV-Vis, FT-IR spectroscopy and HPLC. Again, condensed tannins, moisture content, and pH of the methanol extracted tannin were found 47.80%, 5.82%, and 3.97 respectively. The leather tanned by Xylocar-pus granatum tannin showed a shrinkage temperature of 86.34 ± 1.52 °C. Other properties such as tensile strength, tear strength, grain cracking load, and distention at grain cracking were comparable to conventional vegetable- tanned leather. The cross-sectional morphology of the tanned leathers was also characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) which revealed a compact structure of the leather fibers. In light of the findings from the study, X. granatum bark tannin could be a well alternative to chromium and a new source of vegetable tannin for the leather industry.

We study the electromagnetic form factors and tensor polarization observables of the deuteron in the framework of the hard-wall AdS/QCD *** find a profile function for the bulk twistτ=6 vector field,which describes the deuteron on the boundary and fix the infrared boundary cut-off of AdS space in accordance with the ground state mass of the *** obtain the deuteron charge monopole,quadrupole,and magnetic dipole form factors and tensor polarization observables from the bulk Lagrangians for the deuteron and photon field *** plot the momentum transfer dependence of the form factors and tensor polarization observables and compare our numerical results with those in the soft-wall model and experimental data.

Identifying Periodical Activities Independent of Video Content

In this research, a completely new and accurate method has been presented for detecting periodic activities with the help of machine vision. The proposed method is independent of motion tracking complex algorithms unlike the previous strategies and it is fully independent of contents and types of activities by performing low level calculation. Not using of heavy computations while improving the ability of periodicity detection is regarded as the unique feature of this method. The use of general and flexible framework in this method causes to facilitate the machine vision periodic activities identification process.
