A framework is proposed to understand coupled consolidation-desiccation in clay slurries using effective stress and soil suction as state variables. Constitutive surfaces were derived from best-fit equations for reference curves where one state variable was kept at 1 kPa and the other was varied up to 10~6 *** indicated that volume compressibility comprises of apparent pre-consolidation up to 100 kPa beyond which a single best-fit curve is valid. Similarly, the theoretical virgin compression line(specific gravity dependant), indicated that both state variables have the same effect up to the air entry value(1000 kPa at a void ratio of 1.8) beyond which void ratio reduces more readily under effective stress than under soil suction. Likewise, hydraulic conductivity remained saturated up to the air entry value and varied from 10^(-9)m/s to 10^(-12)m/s. Finally, the unsaturated hydraulic conductivity correlated well with empirical relationship up to 10^(-14) m/s bevond which vapor flow became dominant.

The unsteady stagnation point flow of an incompressible viscous fluid over a rotating disk is investigated numerically in the present study. The disk impinges the oncoming flow with a time-dependent axial velocity. The three-dimensionM axisymmetric boundary-layer flow is described by the Navier-Stokes equations. The governing equations are solved numerically, and two distinct similarity solution branches are obtained. Both solution branches exhibit different flow patterns. The upper branch solution exists for all values of the impinging parameter β and the rotating parameter Ω. However, the lower branch solution breaks down at some moderate values of β The involvement of the rotation at disk allows the similarity solution to be transpired for all the decreasing values of β. The results of the velocity profile, the skin friction, and the stream lines are demonstrated through graphs and tables for both solution branches. The results show that the impinging velocity depreciates the forward flow and accelerates the flow in the tangential direction.

In the present study, an enviro-friendly synthesis of silver nanoparticles from Berberis lycium Royle leaf extract and their antibacterial efficacy against five pathogenic bacteria were investigated. This biosynthesis technique is proved to be advantageous over physical and chemical methods as no toxic chemicals are used. The structural and morphological characterization was made by UV-visible spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. The synthesized nanoparticles were oval, rectangular, and spherical in shape, size ranges from 8 to 100 nm and exhibited an absorption peak at 458 nm. The biosynthesized silver nanoparticles have shown good antibacterial effect toward tested bacteria. It is believed that these biosynthesized silver nanoparticles can play a vital role in nano-based products in future.

This communication is devoted to analyze elastic deformation on electrically conducted viscoelastic fluid in the presence of viscous dissipation effects. Non-linear analysis is computed through exact solutions for velocity,temperature and concentration profiles. Special emphasis is provided for elastic deformation in the presence of magnetohydrodynamics effects. Concentration profile is discussed significantly in the presence constructive and destructive chemical reaction. Results are displayed through graphs and discussed for physical parameters that are used in present analysis. Notable findings include that temperature and thermal boundary layer thickness is an increasing function of Prandtl number and a decreasing function of elastic deformation. In addition, heat transfer rate is enhanced by increasing the conjugate parameter(γ) which measures the strength of surface heating.

Bacterial strain RV9 recovered from greengram nodules tolerated 2400 μg/mL of hexaconazole and was identified by 16 S rDNA sequence analysis as Bradyrhizobium japonicum(KY940048). Strain RV9 produced IAA(61.6 μg/mL), ACC deaminase(51.7 mg/(protein·hr)), solubilized TCP(105 μg/mL), secreted 337.6 μg/mL EPS, and produced SA(52.2 μg/mL) and 2,3-DHBA(28.3 μg/mL). Exopolysaccharides produced by strain RV9 was quantified and characterized by SEM, AFM, EDX and FTIR. Beyond tolerance limit,hexaconazole caused cellular impairment and reduced the viability of strain RV9 revealed by SEM and CLSM. Hexaconazole distorted the root tips and altered nodule structure leading thereby to reduction in the performance of greengram. Also, the level of antioxidant enzymes, proline, TBARS, ROS and cell death was increased in hexaconazole treated *** images revealed a concentration dependent increase in the characteristic green and blue fluorescence of hexaconazole treated roots. The application of B. japonicum strain RV9 alleviated the fungicide toxicity and improved the measured plant characteristics. Also,rhizobial cells were localized inside tissues as revealed by CLSM. Colonization of *** strain RV9 decreased the levels of CAT, POD, APX, GPX and TBARS by 80%, 5%,13%, 13% and 19%, respectively over plants grown at 80 μg/(hexaconazole·kg) soil. The ability to detoxify hexaconazole, colonize plant tissues, secrete PGP bioactive molecules even under fungicide pressure and its unique ability to diminish oxidative stress make *** an attractive choice for remediation of fungicide polluted soils and to concurrently enhance greengram production under stressed environment.

Identification of an S5^n allele in Oryza rufipogon Griff. and its effect on embryo sac fertility

Oryza rufipogon exhibits abundant genetic diversity and contains many elite genes. In this work, a total of 441 accessions of O. rufipogon were genetically examined using the functional marker S5n, revealing that 18 accessions carried the S5n allele with a heterozygous genotype (S5nS5i/j). Of these accessions, 14 were from Guangdong Province, 2 from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, 1 from Hainan Province and 1 from Jiangxi Province. Further sequence analysis spanning both sides of the deletion in S5n allele of O. rufipogon confirmed that this allele is identical with that of 02428, a wide-compatibility variety of domesticated rice. The segregation ratio of the 3 genotypes (S5iS5i/S5jS5j:S5nS5i/j:S5nS5n) among 15 self-bred progenies of O. rufipogon significantly deviated from the Mendelian expectation (1:2:1) in that the proportion of plants exhibiting S5n heterozygous and homozygous genotypes was much lower in the progeny. Sequence analysis of full-length S5n alleles indicated that a few base pairs were different between O. rufipogon and O. sativa, and it was presumed that S5n may be an ancient allele. The fertility of the embryo sac in plants with an S5n heterozygous genotype was low, suggesting the existence of other genes controlling embryo sac fertility in the wild rice.
