As a natural disaster,extreme precipitation is among the most destructive and influential,but predicting its occurrence and evolution accurately is very challenging because of its rarity and *** the example of the“21·7”extreme precipitation event(17–21 July 2021)in Henan Province,this study explores the potential of using physics-guided machine learning to improve the accuracy of forecasting the intensity and location of extreme *** physics-guided ways of embedding physical features,fusing physical model forecasts and revised loss function are used,i.e.,(1)analyzing the anomalous circulation and thermodynamical factors,(2)analyzing the multi-model forecast bias and the associated underlying reasons for it,and(3)using professional forecasting knowledge to design the loss function,and the corresponding results are used as input for machine learning to improve the forecasting *** results indicate that by learning the relationship between anomalous physical features and heavy precipitation,the forecasting of precipitation intensity is improved significantly,but the location is rarely adjusted and more false alarms *** reasons for this are as *** anomalous features used here mainly contain information about large-scale systems and factors which are consistent with the model precipitation deviation;moreover,the samples of extreme precipitation are sparse and so the algorithm used here is ***,by combining“good and different”multi models with machine learning,the advantages of each model are extracted and then the location of the precipitation center in the forecast is improved ***,by combining the appropriate anomalous features with multi-model fusion,an integrated improvement of the forecast of the rainfall intensity and location is ***,this study is a novel exploration to improve the refined forecasting of heavy precipitation with extreme intensity and high variability,

Risk assessment of agricultural green water security in Northeast China under climate change

Northeast China is an important base for grain production,dominated by rain-fed agriculture that relies on green ***,in the context of global climate change,rising regional temperatures,changing precipitation patterns,and increasing drought frequency pose threats and challenges to agricultural green water *** study provides a detailed assessment of the spatiotemporal characteristics and development trends of green water security risks in the Northeast region under the base period(2001-2020)and the future(2031-2090)climate change scenarios(SSP245 and SSP585)using the green water scarcity(GWS)index based on raster-scale crop spatial distribution data,Delta downscaling bias-corrected ERA5 data,and CMIP6 multimodal *** the base period,the green water risk-free zone for dry crops is mainly distributed in the center and east of the Northeast region(72.4% of the total area),the low-risk zone is primarily located in the center(14.0%),and the medium-risk(8.3%)and high-risk(5.3%)zones are mostly in the *** SSP245 and SSP585 future climate change scenarios,the green water security risk shows an overall expansion from the west to the center and east,with the low-risk zone increasing to 21.6% and 23.8%,the medium-risk zone increasing to 16.0% and 17.9%,and the high-risk zone increasing to 6.9% and 6.8%,*** dry crops with GWS greater than 0.1 as in need of irrigation,the irrigated area increases from 27.6%(base period)to 44.5%(SSP245)and 48.6%(SSP585),with corresponding increases in irrigation water requirement(IWR)of 4.64 and 5.92 billion m~3,respectively,which further exacerbates conflicts between supply and demand of agricultural water *** response to agricultural green water security risks,coping strategies such as evapotranspiration(ET)-based water resource management for dry crops and deficit irrigation are *** results of this study can provide scientific basis and decision support for the development

Reinforcement learning(RL) interacts with the environment to solve sequential decision-making problems via a trial-and-error approach. Errors are always undesirable in real-world applications, even though RL excels at playing complex video games that permit several trial-and-error attempts. To improve sample efficiency and thus reduce errors, model-based reinforcement learning(MBRL) is believed to be a promising direction, as it constructs environment models in which trial-and-errors can occur without incurring actual costs. In this survey, we investigate MBRL with a particular focus on the recent advancements in deep RL. There is a generalization error between the learned model of a non-tabular environment and the actual environment. Consequently, it is crucial to analyze the disparity between policy training in the environment model and that in the actual environment, guiding algorithm design for improved model learning, model utilization, and policy training. In addition, we discuss the recent developments of model-based techniques in other forms of RL, such as offline RL, goal-conditioned RL, multi-agent RL, and meta-RL. Furthermore,we discuss the applicability and benefits of MBRL for real-world tasks. Finally, this survey concludes with a discussion of the promising future development prospects for MBRL. We believe that MBRL has great unrealized potential and benefits in real-world applications, and we hope this survey will encourage additional research on MBRL.

Photothermal therapy(PTT)and photodynamic therapy(PDT)have received tremendous attention owing to their great potential for tumor ***,two main issues hamper the antitumor performance of PDT:overexpression of glutathione(GSH)in tumors,which consumes PDT-induced reactive oxygen species(ROS),and hypoxia within the tumor *** drawbacks of PTT include uneven temperature distribution and the upregulation of the heat-shock proteins in tumors,both of which result in ineffective *** address these issues,a MnO_(2)doped nano-delivery system(HTIM-PMs)was synthesized by one-step self-assembly of disulfide bond bridged copolymers for indocyanine green(ICG)and MnO_(2)*** surface of polymeric micelles was layered with hyaluronan(HA)and transactivator(TAT)peptides to improve active targeting and increase cell *** internalization,HTIM-PMs showed responsiveness to the tumor microenvironment(acid pH,high glutathione,high H_(2)O_(2)).Breaking the disulfide bond reduced the intratumoral GSH level and simultaneously released the MnO_(2)and *** released MnO_(2)further reduced the GSH level and promoted O_(2)generation,thus enhancing the PDT *** PTT-mediated hyperthermia accelerated blood flow,which is beneficial for O_(2)distribution,and promotes ROS *** PTT-mediated adjuvant effects further overcame the limitations of PDT and the robust PDT effect in turn compensated for the deficiency of *** promising platform exhibited a significant improvement in the PTT-PDT cancer treatment strategy compared to previously reported nanostructures.

Quaternary ammonium compounds(QACs)are commonly used in a variety of consumer and commercial products,typically as a component of *** the COVID-19 pandemic,QACs became one of the primary agents utilized to inactivate the SARS CoV-2 virus on ***,the ecotoxicological effects of QACs upon aquatic organisms have not been fully *** this study,we examined the effects of a widely used QAC(benzalkonium chloride-C_(14),BAC-14)on two toxigenic Microcystis strains and one non-toxigenic freshwater Microcystis strain and carried out an analysis focused on primary,adaptive and compensatory stress responses at apical(growth and photosynthesis)and metabolic *** analysis revealed that the two toxic Microcystis strains were more tolerant than the non-toxic strain,with 96 hr-EC_(50)values of 0.70,0.76,and 0.38 mg/L BAC-14 for toxigenic *** FACHB-905,toxigenic *** FACHB-469,and non-toxigenic *** FACHB-908,*** photosynthetic activities of the Microcystis,assessed via F_(v)/F_(m) values,were significantly suppressed under 0.4 mg/L ***,this analysis revealed that BAC-14 altered 14,12,and 8 metabolic pathways in *** FACHB-905,*** FACHB-469,and *** FACHB-908,*** is noteworthy that BAC-14 enhanced the level of extracellular microcystin production in the toxigenic Microcystis strains,although cell growth was not significantly ***,these data show that BAC-14 disrupted the physiological and metabolic status of Microcystis cells and stimulated the production and release of microcystin,which could result in damage to aquatic systems.

The electrochemical reduction of NO_(3)^(-)to NH_(3)holds promise for economic and environmental benefits,presenting an energyefficient alternative to the traditional Haber-Bosch ***,challenges exist due to its sluggish kinetics,multiple intermediates,and various reaction *** this study,Mn-doped-Cu catalyst was synthesized and employed for electrochemical NO_(3)^(-)-to-NH_(3)*** doping of Mn into Cu resulted in exceptional performance,achieving a FE of 95.8%and an NH_(3)yield rate of 0.91 mol g^(-1)h^(-1)at-0.6 V in a neutral electrolyte at low NO_(3)^(-)*** experimental studies and theoretical calculations revealed that the Mn dopant enhanced the kinetic rate of NO_(2)~--to-NH_(3)and induced a distinct configuration of**** alteration decreased the energy barrier of*NO-to-*NOH,consequently promoting the conversion of NO_(3)^(-)-to-NH_(3).

Balancing ecological preservation with sustainable agricultural practices is a global issue. Erhai Lake has felt this challenge keenly. To address it, in 2022, a Science and Technology Backyards(STBs) project was launched in Gusheng Village. The goal of this is to care for the environment while ensuring that farms and farmers can thrive sustainably. The uniqueness of the Erhai STB arises from its interdisciplinary integration, encompassing fields such as ecology, agronomy and social science, resulting in specifically-designed solutions for the Erhai context. While this model aligns with broader STB paradigms, its distinctive edge lies in technological innovation and robust support mechanisms for local agricultural stakeholders. This paper describes the methodology and outcomes of the STB initiative, highlighting its pivotal role in spearheading sustainable transition in Erhai. Preliminary findings underscore the potential of the STB model as an efficacious tool for harmonizing environmental conservation and agricultural practices, that are both financially and environmentally sustainable, rendering it a potential model for comparable regions in China and other counties.

Wheat germplasm is a fundamental resource for basic research,applied studies,and wheat breeding,which can be enriched normally by several paths,such as collecting natural lines,accumulating breeding lines,and introducing mutagenesis *** methane sulfonate(EMS)is an alkylating agent that can effectively introduce genetic variations in a wide variety of plant *** this study,we created a million-scale EMS population(MEP)that started with the Chinese wheat cultivars‘Luyan 128’,‘Jimai 38’,‘Jimai 44’,and‘Shannong 30’.In the M1 generation,the MEP had numerous phenotypical variations,such as>3,000 chlorophyll-deficient mutants,2,519 compact spikes,and 1,692 male sterile *** were also rare mutations,including 30 independent tillers each with double *** M1 variations of chlorophyll-deficiency and compact spikes were inheritable,appearing in the M2 or M3 *** advance the entire MEP to higher generations,we adopted a single-seed descendent(SSD)*** other seed composites of M2 were used to screen other agronomically important traits,such as the tolerance to herbicide *** MEP is available for collaborative projects,and provides a valuable toolbox for wheat genetics and breeding for sustainable agriculture.
