A computational fluid dynamics investigation of a novel flooded-bed dust scrubber with vibrating mesh

This work proposes a vibrating mesh screen as an alternative to the static mesh screen currently used in conventional flooded-bed dust scrubbers for removing airborne coal mine dust in the continuous mining *** assessments suggest that a vibrating screen may improve the dust collection efficiency of scrubber systems and mitigate the clogging issues associated with the conventional *** evaluate this hypothesis,computational fluid dynamics(CFD)simulations were carried out to assess the effects of vibration conditions(i.e.,frequency and amplitude)on the dust particle-mesh interaction and mesh wetting conditions,which are the two decisive factors in determining the dust collection *** results suggest that the vibrating mesh screen can enhance dust particle collision opportunities on the mesh and increase mesh wetted area as compared to the static mesh *** effects of mesh screen aperture,coal dust concentration,and spray nozzle flow rate on the performance of the vibrating mesh are also ***,a simplified three-phase flow simulation including airflow,dust particles,and water droplet spray is performed,and the results reflect a significant improvement of dust collection efficiency in the liquid-coated vibrating mesh screen.

Thorium as a suitable fertile with higher natural resources in comparison with uranium resources has been remarkably considered by different nuclear energy user countries in the last decades. Its prominent features such as suitable possibility for power flattening of a nuclear reactor, applicable breeder blanket to produce^(233)U fissile as well as neutron leakage prevention from a nuclear core has caused its application as power flatter, breeder material or other aimed utilizations be evaluated by the researches. In the present study, neutronics of a modeled CANDU 6loaded with Th O_2 and UO_2fuel rods have been computationally studied. The study aimed at reprocessing of burned Th O_2 seeds at CANDU 6 reactor to recover the total produced uranium, which is to be going under another compound fuel cycle. The obtained results showed all the core reactivity coefficients are sufficiently negative. The modeled core 949 GWd burn-up concluding in 99.99 %depletion of^(235)U initial loads. 18.38 kg of^(233) U was produced in the burnt Th O_2 fuel after 1-year burn-up time. In addition, 31.84 kg of^(239) Pu was produced in the UO_2 spent fuel rods after the burn-up time. After a proposed cooling time, about 50.01 kg of^(233)U will be available in the spent Th O_2 fuel.

Cell therapy using stem cell transplantation against cerebral ischemia has been reported. However, it remains controversial regarding the optimal time for cell transplantation and the transplantation route. Rat models of cerebral ischemia were established by occlusion of the middle cerebral artery. At 1, 12 hours, 1, 3, 5 and 7 days after cerebral ischemia, bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells were injected via the tail vein. At 28 days after cerebral ischemia, rat neurological function was evaluated using a 6-point grading scale and the pathological change of ischemic cerebral tissue was observed by hematoxylin-eosin staining. Under the fluorescence microscope, the migration of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells was examined by PKH labeling. Caspase-3 activity was measured using spectrophotometry. The optimal neurological function recovery, lowest degree of ischemic cerebral damage, greatest number of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells migrating to peri-ischemic area, and lowest caspase-3 activity in the ischemic cerebral tissue were observed in rats that underwent bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell transplantation at 12 hours after cerebral ischemia. These findings suggest that 12 hours after cerebral ischemia is the optimal time for tail vein injection of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell transplantation against cerebral ischemia, and the strongest neuroprotective effect of this cell therapy appears at this time.

Grading of fruits and vegetables is an initial step after *** is also an essential operation before *** the present study,different fuzzy algorithms for classifica-tion of mature tomato were applied and evaluated based on combinations of fruit color,size and *** membership functions of hardness were established by subject-ing samples to Instron compression test as well as the rates of *** sample was also used for image processing to determine the color and size of fruit using Matlab image processing *** and size fuzzy membership functions were established by pub-lished *** fuzzy If-Then rules were applied to classify the samples within five group outputs viz.“grade I”,“grade II”,“grade I-far market”,“processing”,and“storage”.Eighty-one fuzzy rules were reduced to 25 rules by combining the compatible *** fuzzy algorithms with different fuzzifiers(zmf,sigmf,gbellmf)and defuzzifiers(bisector,mom,and centroid)were applied,and the outputs were compared to the panelists’classi-fications in cross *** to the classification results,fuzzy algorithms grouped the fruits into correct classes with 90.9%,92.3%,88.7%,87.4%,92.4%and 93.3%accuracy for 6 models,*** best result was observed with zmf and sigmf,and gbellmf as fuzzifier and mom as defuzzifier with 93.3%***,the results revealed that the fusion of aforementioned tomato properties based on fuzzy membership functions could accurately classify the tomatoes in correct groups for different markets.

Retaining walls have been used in many construction projects such as for road and inclined surfaces protection. The damage caused by an earthquake depends on the fundamental frequency, amplitude and the duration of the seismic motion. These parameters strongly depend on the seismic properties of the layers that are near the surface. In the study of retaining walls, in addition to the infl uence of soil, the infl uence of topography is also important. In the present study, site response analysis is performed by using fi nite element software PLAXIS to obtain the eff ect of various factors such as embedded length of the sheet pile, underground water table, length and angle of the nail, shear wave velocity of soil on site eff ect and dynamic response. Moreover, for better understanding of the eff ect of the above parameters, the stability analysis was performed by using shear reduction method. The results show that an increase in the embedded length of the sheet pile and the length of nailing causes an increase in the amplifi cation factor. Moreover, for shear-wave velocity in the range of 200- 600 m/s, the amplifi cation factor increases with increase of the shear-wave velocity due to the decrease of nonlinear behavior.
