<i>GJB2</i>Gene Related Nonsyndromic Hearing Loss in Mazandaran Province, North of Iran

Introduction: Congenital hearing loss is the most common sensory deficit in the world and mutations in GJB2 gene are the most common cause of deafness in many populations. Frequency of GJB2 mutations is estimated about 16% in Iran and varies among different provinces with a decreasing trend from north to south. The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of GJB2 mutations in Mazandaran province, north of Iran, among non-syndromic hearing loss patients. Methods: 262 patients from 204 families participated in this study. After genomic DNA extraction, GJB2 gene analysis was carried out using DNA sequencing of both coding and non-coding regions by ABI 3130XL genetic analyzer. Results: 30.15% of all subjects showed mutations in GJB2 gene. Four mutations, including c.35delG (Gly12Valfs*), IVSI-1 + 1G > A, c.95G > A (Arg32His) and c.224 G > A (Arg75Gln) comprises 69.89% of all mutations in this study c.35delG and IVSI-1 were the most common mutations among patients respectively. Codon 75 mutation (c.224G > A. p: Arg75Gln) with autosomal dominant inheritance was seen in 7 cases from 3 families. 22 patients showed only one mutation in GJB2 gene and in 126 (48.09%) individuals, parents had a consanguineous marriage. Discussion: Frequency of GJB2 gene related hearing loss among patients was higher than average (16%) in this province. This study also showed a dominant inheritance pattern of GJB2 gene in this area. Consanguineous marriage also showed highly frequent among parents. More investigation needs to clarify cause of hearing loss in those 22 patients with one mutation in GJB2 gene, either two gene inheritance or another gene may be responsible for hearing loss.

An Efficient Hybrid Model Based on Modified Whale Optimization Algorithm and Multilayer Perceptron Neural Network for Medical Classification Problems

Feedforward Neural Network(FNN)is one of the most popular neural network models that is utilized to solve a wide range of nonlinear and complex *** models such as stochastic gradient descent have been developed to train ***,they mainly suffer from falling into local optima leading to reduce the accuracy of ***,the convergence speed of training process depends on the initial values of weights and biases in ***,these values are randomly determined by most of the training *** deal with these issues,in this paper,we develop a novel evolutionary algorithm by modifying the original version of Whale Optimization Algorithm(WOA).To this end,a nonlinear function is introduced to improve the exploration and exploitation phases in the search process of ***,the modified WOA is applied to automatically obtain the initial values of weights and biases in FNN leading to reduce the probability of falling into local *** addition,the FNN model trained by the modified WOA is used to develop a classification approach for medical diagnosis *** medical diagnosis datasets are utilized to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed ***,four evaluation metrics including accuracy,AUC,specificity,and sensitivity are used in the experiments to compare the performance of classification *** experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method is better than other competing classification models due to achieving higher values of accuracy,AUC,specificity,and sensitivity metrics for the used datasets.

Objective: Depression affects people living with HIV(PLWH) compliance leading to poor control *** observational studies showed an anti-depression effect of green tea extract(GTE). The therapeutic effect of GTE on depression were investigated in PLWH receiving antiretroviral therapy(ART).Methods: Fifty PLWH on ART with diagnose of mild to moderate of depression, participated in a doubleblind, placebo-controlled trial and underwent 12 weeks of treatment with either 400 mg GTE capsules or placebo twice daily. The Hamilton depression scale of patients was measured before, 6 weeks and 12 weeks after treatment in two groups. The primary outcome measure was performed to evaluate the efficacy of GTE in improving depressive ***: The mean of Hamilton score showed a significant difference between the two groups after 12 weeks(P = 0.035). Repeated measures ANOVA test showed a significant effect for time ? treatment interaction on the Hamilton mean score between the two groups(P = 0.000).Conclusion: It seems the use of GTE capsules in PLWH on ART is safe and could lead to greater and more rapid improvement in depressive symptoms than placebo. Thus it can be considered as an alternative therapy for mild to moderate depression. Further studies with higher sample size and longer followup and comparisons with other antidepressive drugs are warranted.

Synthesis,characterization and application of BiVO_4 photoanode for photoelectrochemical oxidation of chlorate

A high‐quality polycrystalline bismuth vanadate(BiVO4)film was prepared on a fluorine‐doped tinoxide substrate via a facile two‐step strategy involving electrodeposition and annealing *** morphology and structural characterization of the resulting film were investigated by differentmethods including scanning electron microscopy,transmission electron microscopy,X‐ray diffraction(XRD),and Fourier transform infrared,ultraviolet‐visible(UV‐vis)absorption,and *** patterns as well as optical measurements revealed that BiVO4film crystallizedwith a pure monoclinic scheelite *** prepared BiVO4film was used for heterogeneousoxidation of chlorate ions in aqueous solution via electrochemical(EC),photochemical(PC),andphotoelectrochemical(PEC)*** decrease in concentration of chlorate was monitoredusing UV‐vis absorption *** results revealed that BiVO4could effectively performchlorate oxidation under light irradiation through a PEC *** kinetics of chlorate oxidationwas consistent with a first‐order reaction,and the rate constant for the PEC process was found to bemuch higher than those of EC and ***,a possible photocatalytic oxidation mechanismfor chlorate mainly based on the formation of perchlorate ions is proposed.

Effect of modified atmosphere packaging on the mechanical properties of lettuce during shelf life in cold storage

Lettuce is a perishable vegetable that its shelf life is limited by detrimental texture changes and enzymatic activities during postharvest *** of solutions that can be used in storage and distribution of this product is modified atmosphere packaging(MAP).But its effects on the mechanical properties of the product have not been *** information would be beneficial in inspection of eating quality and later processing such as cutting and *** research aimed to study effect of active MAP technology on the postharvest mechanical properties of lettuce at different storage *** was found that MAP had a significant effect on the tension property of the lettuce *** treatment preserved the brittleness of the specimens during storage,but the control ones lost their brittleness and tolerated greater *** and rupture energy were significantly affected by MAP with P values of 0.01 and 0.05,***,stiffness of the MAPtreated samples was higher than the control at the same storage *** findings are due to reducing respiration,transpiration and bacterial growth by MAP which delays nutrient decomposition and maintains the original color and texture.

Demographic parameters of cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii Glover （Homoptera： Aphididae） on five cotton cultivars

Life table parameters of the cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii Glover, were estimated on five cotton cultivars （‘ Sealand＇ ,‘Siokra＇ ,＇ Vararnin＇ ,‘ Bakhtegan＇ and ‘ Sahel＇）. Demographic parameters of the cotton aphid were assessed at 27.5 ± 1 ℃, 65% ＋ 10% RH and a photoperiod of 14：10 （L： D）h. The shortest developmental time for the nymphal stages was 5.5 days on ‘Siokra＇ and the longest was 6.1 days on‘ Sealand＇. The highest offspring per female was 29.6 on ‘Sahel＇ and the lowest was 15.3 on ‘Sealand＇. The rm values varied from 0.272 on ‘Sealand＇ to 0.382 （day^-1） on ‘Varamin＇. Jackknife estimates of the A. gossypii parameters on these cultivars indicated the greatest developmental rate and fecundity on ‘ Varamin＇ and the poorest on ‘ Sealand＇ cultivar.

In this study,an intelligent system based on combined machine vision(MV)and Support Vector Machine(SVM)was developed for sorting of peeled pistachio kernels and *** system was composed of conveyor belt,lighting box,camera,processing unit and sorting unit.A color CCD camera was used to capture *** images were digitalized by a capture card and transferred to a personal computer for further ***,images were converted from RGB color space to HSV color *** segmentation of the acquired images,H-component in the HSV color space and Otsu thresholding method were applied.A feature vector containing 30 color features was extracted from the captured images.A feature selection method based on sensitivity analysis was carried out to select superior *** selected features were presented to SVM *** SVM models having a different kernel function were developed and *** SVM model having cubic polynomial kernel function and 38 support vectors achieved the best accuracy(99.17%)and then was selected to use in online decision-making unit of the *** launching the online system,it was found that limiting factors of the system capacity were related to the hardware parts of the system(conveyor belt and pneumatic valves used in the sorting unit).The limiting factors led to a distance of 8 mm between the *** overall accuracy and capacity of the sorter were obtained 94.33% and 22.74 kg/h,respectively.

Aesthetic evaluations,including beauty and attractiveness,have an important role in our *** its importance in our every-day life,enough attention has not been devoted to the assessment of place attractiveness in previous *** assume that changes in elements of square attractiveness are associated with changes in brain functional connectivity *** this study,we have tried to explore the relationship between elements of square attractiveness and individuals’emotional perception as well as the brain mechanism involved in the process of cognitive *** has been a focus on using objective measures of physiological rather than using self-reported data of an individual’s emotions because people cannot understand their emotions properly and it is needed to compare self-report emotions with physiological *** of the five main elements of attractiveness was performed using the Delphi ***,twenty-four healthy young adults were exposed to the visual stimuli consists of five elements.A 32-channel EEG system was used to record the brain activities of participants while watching the *** subjects’feelings about valence and arousal levels of the elements were evaluated using the Self-Assessment Manikin(SAM)*** findings showed that“visual openness”is the most important element to increase the square attractiveness of everyday landscape in residential *** analysis revealed a significant difference(p=0.048)in arousal ratings between more attractive(more openness)(M=4.77)and less attractive(less openness)(M=4.52).Attractiveness elements of the stimuli have a region-specific association with brain functional connectivity *** pattern is mainly found in the functional connections between central parts of the brain.

Introducing the novel technique for enhancing oil recovery from available petroleum reservoirs is one of the important issues in future energy *** of all operative factors,wettability may be the foremost parameter affecting residual oil saturation in all stage of oil *** wettability alteration is one of the methods which enhance oil recovery from the petroleum ***,the studies which focused on this subject were more than the past and many contributions have been made on this *** main objective of the current study is experimentally investigation of the two nonionic surfactants effects on altering wettability of reservoir *** of this work is to change the wettability to preferentially the water-wet *** reducing the residual oil saturation(Sor)is the other purpose of this *** wettability alteration of reservoir rock is measured by two main quantitative methods namely contact angle and the USBM *** of this study showed that surfactant flooding is more effective in oil-wet rocks to change their wettability and consequently reducing Sor to a low ***(Zizyphus Spina Christi)is low priced,absolutely natural,and abundantly accessible in the Middle East and Central *** on the results,this material can be used as a chemical surfactant in field for enhancing oil recovery.
