Crude oil and source rock samples from one of the main oilfields of the Abadan Plain, Zagros, Iran were analyzed geochemically. Rock-Eval pyrolysis was conducted on Kazhdumi(Upper Cretaceous) and Gadvan(Lower Cretaceous) formations, which are the probable source rocks for the oil in the region. The results indicated that the Kazhdumi Formation can be classified as a fair-to-excellent source rock, while the Gadvan Formation can be identified as having poor-to-good source rock in the basin. Based on the cross-plots of HI versus OI and S2 versus TOC, types Ⅱ and Ⅲ kerogen were identified from studied source samples in the area. Determination of the main fraction percentages of the Sarvak and Fahliyan crude oils represented that the oils from the Sarvak reservoir are paraffinic-naphthenic and aromaticintermediate, whilst that from the Fahliyan reservoir is paraffinic and paraffinic-naphthenic. Biomarker ratios of the saturated fractions of oil from both reservoirs indicate that the source rocks formed in reducing marine environments with carbonate-shale lithology. Furthermore, biomarker data helped to distinguish the degree of biodegradation in the studied oils. According to geochemical analysis, oil samples from the Fahliyan reservoir were generated at a higher thermal maturity than the Sarvak reservoir samples.

In the steam thermal cracking of naphtha,the hydrocarbon stream flows inside tubular reactors and is exposed to flames of a series of burners in the *** this paper,a full three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics(CFD)model was developed to investigate the process variables in the firebox and reactor coil of an industrial naphtha *** comprehensive CFD model consists of a standard k-εturbulence model accompanied by a molecular kinetic reaction for cracking,detailed combustion model,and radiative *** order to improve the steam cracking performance,the model is solved using a proposed iterative *** respect to temperature,product yield and specially propylene-toethylene ratio(P/E),the simulation results agreed well with industrial data obtained from a mega olefin plant of a petrochemical *** deviation of P/E results from industrial data was less than 2%.The obtained velocity,temperature,and concentration profiles were used to investigate the residence time,coking rate,coke concentration,and some other *** coke concentration at coil exit was1.9×10^(-3)%(mass)and the residence time is calculated to be 0.29 *** results can be used as a scientific guide for process engineers.

Combustion of heavy fuels is one of the main sources of greenhouse gases, particulate emissions, ashes, NOxand SOx. Gasification is an advanced and environmentally friendly process that generates combustible and clean gas products such as hydrogen. Some entrained flow gasifiers operate with Heavy Fuel Oil(HFO) feedstock. In this application, HFO atomization is very important in determining the performance and efficiency of the *** atomization characteristics of HFO(Mazut) discharging from a pressure-swirl atomizer(PSA) are studied for different pressures difference(Δp) and temperatures in the atmospheric ambient. The investigated parameters include atomizer mass flow rate( _m), discharge coefficient(CD), spray cone angle(θ), breakup length(Lb), the unstable wavelength of undulations on the liquid sheet(λs), global and local SMD(sauter mean diameter) and size distribution of droplets. The characteristics of Mazut sheet breakup are deduced from the shadowgraph technique. The experiments on Mazut film breakup were compared with the predictions obtained from the liquid film breakup model. Validity of the theory for predicting maximum unstable wavelength was investigated for HFO(as a highly viscous liquid). A modification on the formulation of maximum unstable wavelength was presented for HFO. SMD decreases by getting far from the atomizer. The measurement for SMD and θ were compared with the available correlations. The comparisons of the available correlations with the measurements of SMD andθ show a good agreement for Ballester and Varde correlations, respectively. The results show that the experimental sizing data could be presented by Rosin-Rammler distributions very well at different pressure difference and temperatures.

Formaldehyde(HCHO)is formed through the oxidation of volatile organic compounds(VOCs)and can cause human *** oxide and titanium oxide nanoparticles-functionalized nanographene oxide(Bi_(2)O_(3)/TiO_(2)@NGO)were used to rapidly remove the HCHO from the air by a photocatalytic degradation-adsorption process(PC-DAP).The formaldehyde vapor in pure air was generated in a dynamic system within a chamber,and flowed over Bi_(2)O_(3)/TiO_(2)@NGO adsorbent inside a fixed-bed quartz reactor(FBQR)under UV irradiation at optimized conditions(250C).At atmospheric pressure,the flow rate and gas hourly space velocity(GHSV)were adjusted to 300 mL/min and 100-450 L/h,*** radicals of HCHO and nanographene oxide(NGO)were generated through the UV-photochemical process,enhancing the chemical adsorption through the radicals’*** the other hand,the semi-degradation process by catalytic oxidation process converted some HCHO into raw materials of CO_(2)and H_(2)O,while the unconverted HCHO was physically absorbed by ***,the HCHO concentration in the outlet system was measured by gas chromatography with a flame ionization detector(GC-FID)after derivatizing formaldehyde with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine(DNPH)and ***,efficient removal of HCHO from the air,the removal efficiency of more than 95%,was achieved through physical/chemical adsorption and the *** mean removal efficiencies for HCHO with Bi_(2)O_(3)-TiO_(2)@NGO,TiO_(2)@NGO,Bi_(2)O_(3)@NGO,and NGO were 98.7%,73.6%,61.8%,and 11.4%,respectively(n=10,RSDalidated by spiking different concentrations of standard HCHO into pure air.

Pore volume compressibility is an essential parameter in reservoir studies,as it plays a major role in recovery *** the past decades,many attempts have been made to establish a link between the pore compressibility and the porosity and other mechanical properties of the *** scholars introduced analytical correlations between pore compressibility and rock mechanical properties,while others developed empirical formulas for estimating pore compressibility based on a porosity calculated by comparing nonlinear models to laboratory *** this study,pore volume compressibility is measured on 55 carbonate samples and then applied to derive an empirical relationship between pore compressibility and porosity at each stress step,which is useful for predicting pore compressibility based on initial *** take the net stress effect into account and derive an empirical correlation based on net effective stress and initial porosity to predict pore *** the end,we compare the measured pore compressibility with that predicted by the derived correlation and other non-leaner models,which indicates that the newly proposed non-linear equation outperforms those available in literature。

Collar performance in bridge pier scour with debris accumulation

The mechanism of bridge pier scour becomes more complex in the presence of debris accumulation upstream of the pier. While using countermeasures may be effective in reducing scour, their efficacy could be undermined in such a situation. The current study investigates the effectiveness of using a collar in the presence of different types of floating debris accumulation in reducing scour around a cylindrical bridge pier with non-cohesive bed sediment. The experimental results reveal that using a collar can reduce the scour depth by up to 39% when compared to that without the collar in the absence of debris accumulation under the same flow conditions. Also, the collar’s efficiency is reduced by up to 25% when debris accumulation is present. However, depending on the relative size of the accumulated debris and collar, the effectiveness of collars may be increased as a pier-scour protection device. A new parameter,which is defined as the Debris Protrusion Ratio(DPR), is used to quantify the effect of debris layout size on scour depth. Moreover, a semi-empirical equation that may be used to predict the depth of the scour hole that forms around cylindrical collar-fitted piers with floating debris accumulation is proposed. The equation’s performance is evaluated using the available data in the literature. Based on the analysis, the current study shows that the accuracy of the proposed equation is satisfactory in predicting the maximum scour depth.

The Shotori mountain range is located along the northern terminus of the Nayband fault on the eastern and western domains of the Tabas and Lut blocks,*** range with NNW-SSE trending and approximately 120 km long includes a series of thrust faults approaching the right-lateral strike-slip Nayband *** the Shotori range has experienced various geological events since the Triassic,our investigations suggest that the basement of the Central Iranian subcontinent of the Shotori range contains the early Triassic deep sedimentary with normal faults which confirms Triassic tensional tectonic stress regime in the *** the middle Triassic,the mountain range has experienced thrust and strike-slip ***,in this study,we reconstruct the stress regimes for different geological periods using fault-slip *** inversion of faultslip data reveals drastic temporal changes in the maximum stress regime(σ1)over the Triassic,Jurassic,Cretaceous,Paleogene,Neogen,and *** reconstruction of the stress field based on the age and direction of fault movement reveals that the direction of the maximum horizontal stress axis(σ1)under a tensional stress regime was approximately N129°in the Early *** stress regime is the cause of thinning and subsidence of the Shotori sedimentary *** the middle Triassic,theσ1 direction was about N81°and the upper Triassic,theσ1 direction was almost N115°.The middle Triassic and upper Triassic stress states exhibited two distinct strike-slip and compressive stress *** stress regime led to the uplift of the Shotori sedimentary *** the Jurassic,the direction of the maximum horizontal stress axis(σ1)was~NW-SE under a compressive stress *** the Triassic,theσ1 direction was~*** stress regime led to the formation of the high topography of the Shotori Mountain *** the Late Cretaceous,the direction of the maximum horizontal stress axis(σ1)under the extensional stress

The available SMD(Sauter mean diameter) correlations on pressure-swirl injectors predict droplet sizing very different from each other, especially for heavy fuels. Also there was a lack in the literature for comparing available correlations. So an experimental study was conducted on a heavy fuel oil(HFO) spray, Mazut 380. A pressure swirl injector was designed and fabricated. The experiments for Mazut at 40℃ and 80℃ were compared with the results for water, including spray half cone angle, breakup length and mean droplet diameter,at different injection pressures. Lower spray angle, higher breakup length and larger droplets were observed for lower injection pressures and higher liquid viscosity. SMD was about 75 μm for water and about 87 μm for Mazut at 80℃. The results for droplet mean diameter were also compared with correlations from previous studies on pressure swirl atomizers. The SMD results show that for water spray, LISA method was in good agreement,also Babu and Ballester correlations were successful when high viscosity fluid was injected.
