Therapeutic potential of flavonoids in inflammatory bowel disease: A comprehensive review

The inflammatory process plays a central role in the development and progression of numerous pathological situations,such as inflammatory bowel disease(IBD),autoimmune and neurodegenerative diseases,metabolic syndrome,and cardiovascular disorders. IBDs involve inflammation of the gastrointestinal area and mainly comprise Crohn's disease(CD) and ulcerative colitis(UC). Both pathological situations usually involve recurring or bloody diarrhea,pain,fatigue and weight loss. There is at present no pharmacological cure for CD or UC. However,surgery may be curative for UC patients. The prescribed treatment aims to ameliorate the symptoms and prevent and/or delay new painful episodes. Flavonoid compounds are a large family of hydroxylated polyphenolic molecules abundant in plants,including vegetables and fruits which are the major dietary sources of these compounds for humans,together with wine and tea. Flavonoids are becoming very popular because they have many health-promoting and disease-preventive effects. Most interest has been directed towards the antioxidant activity of flavonoids,evidencing a remarkable free-radical scavenging capacity. However,accumulating evidence suggests that flavonoids have many other biological properties,including anti-inflammatory,antiviral,anticancer,and neuroprotective activities through different mechanisms of action. The present review analyzes the available data about the different types of flavonoids and their potential effectiveness as adjuvant therapy of IBDs.

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptorγ(PPARγ)is a transcriptional coactivator that binds to a diverse range of transcription ***γcoactivator 1(PGC-1)coactivators possess an extensive range of biological effects in different tissues,and play a key part in the regulation of the oxidative metabolism,consequently modulating the production of reactive oxygen species,autophagy,and mitochondrial *** to these findings,a large body of studies,aiming to establish the role of PGC-1 in the neuromuscular system,has shown that PGC-1 could be a promising target for therapies targeting neuromuscular *** these,some evidence has shown that various signaling pathways linked to PGC-1αare deregulated in muscular dystrophy,leading to a reduced capacity for mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation and increased reactive oxygen species(ROS)*** the light of these results,any intervention aimed at activating PGC-1 could contribute towards ameliorating the progression of muscular ***-1αis influenced by different patho-physiological/pharmacological *** products have been reported to display modulatory effects on PPARγactivation with fewer side effects in comparison to synthetic *** together,this review summarizes the current knowledge on Duchenne muscular dystrophy,focusing on the potential effects of natural compounds,acting as regulators of PGC-1α.

In order to investigate the health of the coastal environments, we collected Meiofauna assemblages along intertidal muddy shores of Sajafi in the northwest of Persian Gulf in two seasons (February 2013 and July 2014) from three horizontal transects. Meiofauna are the metazoan components of the benthos, defined by their body size ( 3) condition compared to neighboring regions.

Integration of solid-oxide fuel cells and absorption refrigeration for efficient combined cooling,heat and power production

Combined cooling,heating and power(CCHP)systems are characterized by a substantially higher energy-utilization efficiency compared to standalone *** this study,an integrated system comprising a solid-oxide fuel cell(SOFC),hot-water storage tank(HWST)and absorption refrigeration(AR)cycle is *** SOFC model was developed in Aspen Plus®.It was used to determine the thermodynamic properties of the exhaust gas that was then used to provide heat for the HWST and to drive the AR *** models for the AR cycles were developed in Engineering Equation Solver,considering LiBr-H2O and NH3-H2O as working *** sensitivity analysis of a number of SOFC output parameters has been carried *** most optimal case was characterized with the coefficient of performance(COP)and CCHP efficiency of 0.806 and 85.2%for the LiBr-H2O system,and 0.649 and 83.6%for the NH3-H2O system,*** such optimal operating conditions,the SOFC was characterized by the net electrical efficiency of 57.5%and the net power output of 123.66 *** from the optimal solution were used to perform the thermodynamic study and sensitivity analysis to assess the influence of different absorption cycle operating conditions and to identify possible applications for the considered integrated systems.

Spectral Method for Excitation Temperature Measurement in Hollow Cathode Lamp Plasma

In this paper the excitation temperature in a Gd hollow cathode lamp is measured for the first time. This measurement has made with considering of lamp spectra. One of the important measurements in plasma before using it as an interaction region with laser, is measuring of excitation temperature. Hollow cathode lamps are one of these regions. In this paper a Gd hollow cathode lamps with Ne as buffer gas is used as a plasma region. And the excitation temperature is measured. When the lamp current was 10 mA, the excitation temperature is measured 3000K.

Column Chromatography: A Facile and Inexpensive Procedure to Purify the Red Dopant DCJ Applied for OLEDs

DCJ, one of the DCM derivatives, has been used as a laser dye and a red emitter or a red dopant for OLED devices in recent decade. 4-(dicyanomethylene)-2-methyl-6-(julolidyl-9-enyl)-4H-pyran (DCJ) containing julolidine group has been synthesized for use as a red fluorescent dye molecule in organic light-emitting di- odes (OLEDs). In this paper, we reported a facile, simple and inexpensive procedure of purification of DCJ without necessity of HPLC analysis. The maximum absorption, emission, quantum efficiency are increasing in DCJ with the electron-donating of julolidine group.

Introduction: Stroke is the second major cause of mortality worldwide and in several cases, and it may lead to disability. Factor V Leiden is a common genetic thrombophilia, which causes activated protein C (APC) resistance. Hyperhomocysteinemia and factor V Leiden deficiency, two independent coagulopathy factors, can lead to venous and arterial infarctions in multiple small and large arteries and veins anywhere in the body. Case Report: Here, we report a unique case in which both hyperhomocysteinemia and factor V Leiden deficiency are documented together with MTHFR (C677T) (Methylene Tetra Hydro Folate Reductase) gene polymorphism and activated protein C resistance respectively. Conclusion: More interestingly, the mode of presentation in this case highly resembled that of progressive multiple sclerosis;all signs and symptoms slowly progressed without any systemic signs at first few years. Further studies needed to assess current outcomes.

Correlation between Cognitive Functions, Fatigue, Depression and Disability Status in a Cohort of Multiple Sclerosis Patients

Objective: To investigate the relationship between depression, fatigue, disability and cognitive skills of patients with multiple sclerosis in a cohort of patients with multiple sclerosis in a single center in Tehran, Iran. Methods: One hundred and forty-seven patients with multiple sclerosis with mean age of 33 years, mean disease duration of 20.20 months, mean EDSS of 2.13, and F to M ratio of 76.5% over 23% were recruited for the purpose of this study. Cognitive function was compared with healthy control subjects (n = 100). Depression was measured by Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), fatigue was assessed using Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) and Modified Fatigue Impact Scale (MFIS), disability was evaluated by Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS), and cognitive function was assessed by Brief Repeatable Battery of Neuropsychological tests (BRB-N). All data were analysed using Pearson correlation. Results: Age and disability level generally correlated negatively and significantly with task performance, whereas a higher level of education was associated with better task performance. While the correlation between BDI, FSS, and MIFS was significantly positive, BDI was negatively correlated with the two subscales of BRB, namely PASAT and WLG. Higher levels of depression in patients with MS are associated with lower cognitive performance in tasks requiring higher-order working memory (WM) processes. FSS showed the strongest negative correlation score with BRB, however, the same parameter displayed significant positive correlation with MFIS. Moreover, the global EDSS scores were negatively correlated with BRB. Relative to controls, cognitive performance of MS patients was deficient in all BRB-N measures except Symbol Digit Modalities Test which is a measure of attention and processing speed.
