Performance comparison of machine learning algorithms for maximum displacement prediction in soldier pile wall excavation

One of the common excavation methods in the construction of urban infrastructures as well as water and wastewater facilities is the excavation through soldier pile *** maximum lateral displacement of pile wall is one of the important variables in controlling the stability of the excavation and its adjacent ***,the application of machine learning methods is widely used in engineering sciences due to its low cost and high speed of *** paper utilized three intelligent machine learning algorithms based on the excavation method through soldier pile walls,namely eXtreme gradient boosting(XGBoost),least square support vector regressor(LS-SVR),and random forest(RF),to predict maximum lateral displacement of pile *** results showed that the implemented XGBoost model performed excellently and could make predictions for maximum lateral displacement of pile walls with the mean absolute error of 0.1669,the highest coefficient of determination 0.9991,and the lowest root mean square error *** the LS-SVR,and RF models were less accurate than the XGBoost model,they provided good prediction results of maximum lateral displacement of pile walls for numerical ***,a sensitivity analysis was performed to determine the most effective parameters in the XGBoost *** analysis showed that soil elastic modulus and excavation height had a strong influence on of maximum lateral displacement of pile wall prediction.

Kinetic modeling of copper bioleaching from low-grade ore from the Shahrbabak Copper Complex

The copper recovery from low-grade copper sulfide ore was investigated using microbial leaching. Several parameters substantially affect the bioleaching of copper; among them, pulp density and nutrient media were selected for investigation. The optimum conditions for copper recovery were a pulp density of 5 g/mL, a mixed-mineral salt medium of Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans(70vol%) and Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans(30vol%), and 10vol% of inoculum. Under these conditions, the maximum bioleaching capacity of the medium for copper recovery was determined to be approximately 99%. The effect of pulp density on the kinetics of the bioleaching process was surveyed using both da Silva's method and constrained multilinear regression analysis. The kinetics of copper dissolution followed the shrinking core model, and the process was diffusion controlled at a pulp density of 5 g/mL. Nevertheless, at higher pulp densities, the process was controlled by chemical reaction.

Efficient management of air quality requires a comprehensive emission inventory to support decision-making on air quality *** article presents a comprehensive framework for detailed emission inventory development in cities with low-quality basic data,which examines the emission of primary criteria pollutants(CO,NO_(x),SO_(2),PM_(2.5),PM_(10),and VOC)from mobile sources,residential,commercial,and public services,fuel stations,transport terminals,energy conversion sections,and *** research was applied to Tabriz in Northwest Iran,one of the polluted medium-sized cities with a population of 1.77 *** show the city daily emission per capita is 569.8 g of CO,68.6 g of NO_(x),38.6 g of VOC,17.6 g of SO_(x),and 3.7 g of *** emissions accounted for 98%of CO,91%of VOCs,61%of NO_(x),and 56%of PM;meaning alternative policy strategies in vehicles would reduce emissions *** applicable and effective scenarios in transport and one concerning stationary sourceswere proposed and reduction potential of themwas *** of the public transport improvement and replacement of old passenger cars were founded the key *** two alternatives decrease 14 and 2 tons of SO_(2) and 6797 and 2394 tons of NO_(x) annually with the cost of$99.5 MM and$366.5 MM,*** findings of this study provides the choice of travel method by each citizen is a function of cost,speed,comfort and safety of travel;therefore,all the requirements of any scenarios must be fully considered in the implementation step.

Correlations between silt density index,turbidity and oxidation-reduction potential parameters in seawater reverse osmosis desalination

The reverse osmosis method is one of the most widely used methods of seawater desalination at *** and desalting membranes in reverse osmosis systems are highly susceptible to the input *** contaminants,including suspended organic and inorganic matter,result in membrane fouling and membrane *** parameters such as the turbidity,the amount of chlorine injection,and silt density index (SDI) are the most predominant parameters of fouling control in the *** this study,the operation system included a water intake unit,a pretreatment system,and an RO *** pretreatment system encompassed a clarifier,a gravity sand filter,pressurized sand filters,and a cartridge *** correlation between the amount of chlorine injection in terms of the oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) and the SDI value of the input water was investigated at a specified site next to the Persian *** results showed that,at certain intervals of inlet turbidity,injection of a certain amount of chlorine into the raw water has a distinct effect on the decrease of SDI.

Investigating the enhanced oil recovery leads to optimal production,protection and reduction of lateral *** salinity water injection(LSWI)is one of the significantly improved oil recovery(IOR)techniques for changing the amount of wettability in the carbonate fractured *** utilization of this methodology in terms of high efficiency in displacing light crude oils to the medium-gravity crude oils,water sources availability and its sustainability for pushing the oil which leads to appropriate economic occasions,are being compared with other IOR/EOR *** this study,the best injection modelling pattern is based on the highest rate of recovery *** of“high and low salinity water injection method”with“pure water injection method”is performed in an oil ***,analyzing the sensitivity on the high and low salinity according to the moderately low recovery factor of high and low salinity among the injection scenarios illustrates the low sensitivity of this parameter on a fractured carbonate *** reviewing different scenarios,it could be demonstrated that if the water injection could be applied to the reservoir from the preliminary times of production,the recovery factor rate would be ***,higher appropriate efficiency and better supplement have *** water injection has a high recovery factor than salty water *** the way,these two methods have little differences in calculating recovery ***,this parameter is significantly depended on wellhead equipment properties,safety factor and economic issues(water production).

Satellite design process is an interdisciplinary subject in which the need for collaboration among various science and engineering disciplines is ***,finding an optimal process for conceptual design of a satellite,which can optimize time and cost,is still an important *** this paper,based on system engineering approach,an optimal design process is proposed for LEO satellite *** the proposed method,design process,design sequences,and data flow are *** this regard,the conceptual design process is divided into two levels of mission(or constellation)and system(or satellite)as well as 15 main activities based on the mission profile,previous experiences of the authors,and existing ***,the relationships between these activities have been determined by considering the importance of relationships according to their ***,these relations are optimized based on design structure matrix(DSM).By utilizing this approach,system design process of a telecommunication satellite constellation in LEO is formulated in conceptual design *** and capability of the proposed approach in optimal design process of the satellite constellation are investigated by comparing the outcome with existing results in the literature.

Nowadays,many researches have been accomplished on the attributed quality assessment of agricultural *** have significantly contributed to these researches because of their high production and consumption,*** this paper,the nondestructive instrumental researches in the field of firmness assessment for apple fruit *** researches are important for all production and distribution chain activists such as farmers,insurance companies,packaging and transportation companies,wholesalers and *** studies can be used for examining texture quality,predicting the right time to harvest fruits and classifying them according to the level of ripeness and detecting the apparent and internal defects of the *** apple flesh firmness measurement methods consist of acoustic and mechanical vibration methods,optical methods such as hyperspectral scattering imaging,near infrared,ultrasound and other *** destructive puncture test method commonly used as a reference *** methods are accurate and quick that is suitable for online ***,the use of artificial intelligence methods and data fusion techniques to increase the accuracy of quality measuring of the products has been considered that in the future we will see further development of these methods in measuring the firmness of the apples.

Presentation of regression analysis,GP and GMDH models to predict the pedestrian density in various urban facilities

In this study,the relationship between space mean speed(SMS),flow rate and density of pedestrians was investigated in different pedestrian facilities,including 1 walkway,2 sidewalks,2 signalized crosswalks and 2 mid-block ***,statistical analysis was performed to investigate the normality of data and correlation of *** analysis was then applied to determine the relationship between SMS,flow rate,and density of ***,two prediction models of density were obtained using genetic programming(GP)and group method of data handling(GMDH)models,and k-fold and holdout cross-validation methods were used to evaluate the *** the use of regression analysis,the mathematical relationships between variables in all facilities were calculated and plotted,and the best relationships were observed in flow rate-density *** also indicated that GP had a higher R2 than GMDH in the prediction of pedestrian density in terms of flow rate and SMS,suggesting that GP was better able to model SMS and pedestrian ***,the application of k-fold cross-validation method in the models led to better performances compared to the holdout cross-validation method,which shows that the prediction models using k-fold were more ***,density relationships in all facilities were obtained in terms of SMS and flow rate.
