Effect of fluence and ambient environment on the surface and structural modification of femtosecond laser irradiated Ti

Under certain conditions, ultrafast pulsed laser interaction with matter leads to the formation of self-organized conical as well as periodic surface structures （commonly reffered to as, laser induced periodic surface structures, LIPSS）. The purpose of the present investigations is to explore the effect of fsec laser fluence and ambient environments （Vacuum ＆ 02） on the formation of LIPSS and conical structures on the Ti surface. The surface morphology was investigated by scanning electron microscope （SEM）. The ablation threshold with single and multiple （n = 100） shots and the existence of an incubation effect was demonstrated by SEM investigations for both the vacuum and the 02 environment. The phase analysis and chemical composition of the exposed targets were performed by x-ray diffraction （XRD） and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy （EDS）, respectively. SEM investigations reveal the formation of LIPSS （nano ＆ micro）. FFT d-spacing calculations illustrate the dependence of periodicity on the fluence and ambient environment. The periodicity of nano-scale LIPSS is higher in the case of irradiation under vacuum conditions as compared to 02. Furthermore, the 02 environment reduces the ablation threshold. XRD data reveal that for the 02 environment, new phases （oxides of Ti） are formed. EDS analysis exhibits that after irradiation under vacuum conditions, the percentage of impurity element （A1） is reduced. The irradiation in the 02 environment results in 15% atomic diffusion of oxygen.

nanoparticles(nPs)can be transported via the nose-to-brain(n_(2)B)***,quantitative data on their spatiotemporal dynamics and regulation of the n_(2)B transport are largely *** surveyed metal oxide/hydroxide nPs as magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)contrasts for quantitative n_(2)B *** containing divalent transition metals were the only ones capable of n_(2)B *** T1-weighted(T1W)MRI,we showed that Mn_(3)O_(4)-nPs were readily engulfed by olfactory receptor neurons(ORns)without disrupting olfactory sensing,we mapped their n_(2)B *** neurons,the Mn_(3)O_(4)-nPs were localized to the cytosol,mitochondria,vesicles,moved at mixed fast and slow axonal transport velocities intraand extra-vesicularly through *** nPs’axonal transport is dependent on neuronal activity and microtubule *** Mn_(3)O_(4)-nPs were trans-synaptically transmitted through at least four synapses across the olfactory ***-synaptic transmission of the nPs was dependent on n-type Ca^(2+)channels and nMDA receptors but blocked by GABAB receptor activation.A five-parameter Weibull signal increase/decrease model fitted to the T1W MRI data allowed for estimating kinetic parameters of Mn_(3)O_(4)-nP accumulation/*** and relative accumulation rates,but not elimination,correlated negatively with the number of synapses from ORns,indicating a coupling of the nPs’n_(2)B transport with spontaneous neuronal ***,olfactory stimuli(2,5-dimethylpyrazine and acetophenone)significantly modulated and rerouted the Mn_(3)O_(4)-nP n_(2)B transport odor ***,the nPs’trans-synaptic transmission was impaired by aging and the onset of Parkinson’s *** data suggest new approaches to diagnostics,functional neuroimaging,controlling n_(2)B drug delivery.

Identification of genes involved in the formation of soluble dietary fiber in winter rye grain and their expression in cultivars with different viscosities of wholemeal water extract

The grain of rye(Secale cereale L.) used for baking contains a large amount of non-starch polysaccharides,making it an excellent component of functional foods. But rye grain intended for alcohol production and forage use should have a reduced content of these polysaccharides. A comprehensive parameter that can predict the best field of application for winter rye grain is the viscosity of its wholemeal water ***, our understanding of the genetic background underlying this key trait and associated features of rye grain is poor. By analyzing six Russian winter rye cultivars, we identified the most contrasting forms and characterized the peculiarities of their water-soluble carbohydrates capable of influencing the viscosity of water extracts. Then, using phylogenetic and transcriptomic analyses, we identified in the rye genome many genes encoding putative glycosyltransferases and glycosylhydrolases responsible for the synthesis and degradation of arabinoxylans, mixed-linkage glucans, cellulose, and some other polysaccharides. We determined the dynamics of m RnA abundance for these genes at three stages of kernel development. Comparisons of gene expression levels in two contrasting cultivars revealed specific members of multigene families that may serve as promising targets for manipulating non-starch polysaccharide content in rye grain. High-viscosity cultivars were characterized by up-regulation of many glycosyltransferases involved in the biosynthesis of arabinoxylans and other cell-wall polysaccharides,whereas low-viscosity cultivars showed up-regulation of several genes encoding polysaccharidedegrading enzymes.

Cloning, Expression, and Homology Modeling of GroEL Protein from Leptospira interrogans Serovar Autumnalis Strain n2

Leptospirosis is an infectious bacterial disease caused by Leptospira species. In this study, we cloned and se- quenced the gene encoding the immunodominant protein GroEL from L. interrogans serovar Autumnalis strain n2, which was isolated from the urine of a patient during an outbreak of leptospirosis in Chennai, India. This groEL gene encodes a protein of 60 kDa with a high degree of homology （99% similarity） to those of other leptospiral serovars. Recombinant GroEL was overexpressed in Escherichia coli. lmmunoblot analysis indi- cated that the sera from confirmed leptospirosis patients showed strong reactivity with the recombinant GroEL while no reactivity was observed with the sera from seronegative control patient. In addition, the 3D structure of GroEL was constructed using chaperonin complex cpn60 from Thermus thermophilus as template and vali- dated. The results indicated a Z-score of -8.35, which is in good agreement with the expected value for a pro- tein. The superposition of the Ca traces of cpn60 structure and predicted structure of leptospiral GroEL indicates good agreement of secondary structure elements with an RMSD value of 1.5A. Further study is necessary to evaluate GroEL for serological diagnosis of leptospirosis and for its potential as a vaccine component.

A new form of Miscanthus (Chinese silver grass, Miscanthus sinensis—Andersson) as a promising source of cellulosic biomass

The Far East population of Miscanthus sinensis (Andersson) was introduced into the West Siberia conditions. There was distinguished a form with a modified structure of the rootage which forms long shoots with leader buds and rapidly colonizes soil, thus forming a continuous and flat (without tussocks) plantation of miscanthus. It is shown that using usual agrotechnologies, it is possible to obtain 10-15 tons of dry biomass of high quality cellulose (about 40%) per ha/year.

Evolution of permafrost in China during the last 20 ka

The formation and evolution of permafrost in China during the last 20 ka were reconstructed on the basis of large amount of paleo-permafrost remains and paleo-periglacial evidence, as well as paleo-glacial landforms, paleo-flora and paleofauna records. The results indicate that, during the local Last Glacial Maximum(LLGM) or local Last Permafrost Maximum(LLPMax), the extent of permafrost of China reached 5.3×106-5.4×106 km2, or thrice that of today, but permafrost shrank to only0.80×106-0.85×106 km2, or 50% that of present, during the local Holocene Megathermal Period(LHMP), or the local Last Permafrost Minimum(LLPMin). On the basis of the dating of periglacial remains and their distributive features, the extent of permafrost in China was delineated for the two periods of LLGM(LLPMax) and LHMP(LLPMin), and the evolution of permafrost in China was divided into seven periods as follows:(1) LLGM in Late Pleistocene(ca. 20000 to 13000-10800 a BP)with extensive evidence for the presence of intensive ice-wedge expansion for outlining its LLPMax extent;(2) A period of dramatically changing climate during the early Holocene(10800 to 8500-7000 a BP) when permafrost remained relatively stable but with a general trend of shrinking areal extent;(3) The LHMP in the Mid-Holocene(8500-7000 to 4000-3000 a BP)when permafrost degraded intensively and extensively, and shrank to the LLPMin;(4) neoglaciation during the late Holocene(4000-3000 to 1000 a BP, when permafrost again expanded;(5) Medieval Warming Period(MWP) in the late Holocene(1000-500 a BP) when permafrost was in a relative decline;(6) Little Ice Age(LIA) in the late Holocene(500-100 a BP), when permafrost relatively expanded, and;(7) Recent warming(during the 20 th century), when permafrost continuously degraded and still is degrading. The paleo-climate, geography and paleopermafrost extents and other features were reconstructed for each of these seven periods.

On the Semianalytical Two-Body Regularization in n-Body Simulations

A two-body regularization for n-body problem based on perturbation theory for Keplerian problem is discussed. We provide analytical estimations of accuracy and conduct n-body experiments in order to compare it with state-of-the-art Hermite integrator. It is shown that this regularization keeps some features that allow overcoming KS-regularization in some particular cases.

Impact of high strength electromagnetic fields generated by Tesla transformer on plant cell ultrastructure

non-thermal effects of direct electric fields and alternating electromagnetic fields(EMF)have been successfully used in a number of studies and applications in agriculture and *** different kinds of high strength EMF generators,the Tesla transformer(TT)is known as a widely applied,low cost,and troubleproof device,which generates EMF in the range of 2-8 *** of a number of developed and perspective applications of high strength EMFs in agriculture and biotechnology,the EMFs generated by TT,as well as the 1-50 MHz range of high strength EMF still remain unexplored in the fields of plant physiology,ultrastructure studies and *** this work,we have shown that TT-EMFs(4 MHz)induced fast stem and petiole bending,disappearance of cell organelles,vacuolar membranes,and increase of a non-photochemical chlorophyll fluorescence quenching in *** is intriguing that such fatal effects can be evoked in plants by EMFs which are well known as harmless for man at the applied strength and frequency.

The Physiological Model of na<sup>+</sup>-Dependent Transporters for Glucose and Amino Acids in Rat and Turtle

Conditions in rat and turtle small intestine tissue where glucose and glycine transport is inhibited while glucose-induced na+ transport is preserved are described. The generally accepted model for the na+-dependent transporter (а single channel for the na+ and nutrient) does not account for the data obtained from the analysis of the interaction between the transport of glucose, glycine, and na+ at different temperatures and the effect of inhibitors оn these рroсеssеs. The phenomenon of temperature uncoupling of na+ and nutrient transport саn best bе described bу а two-pathway model with а gate mechanism. According to this model, the na+-dependent transporter has at least two pathways: оnе for na+ and another for nutrients. The model рrovidеs for the passage of na+ in both directions along а channel opened bу glucose. Experiments are carried out using the addition of glucose and glycine on backgrounds of glycine and glucose, respectively. It has been hypothesized that when all three transporters (for na+, glucose and glycine) are unite in a single structure, then there should be “competitive relations” between short-circuit current changes on glycine and glucose for sodium ions passing through its transporter.
