Growth of carbon nanotube arrays on various CtxMey alloy films by chemical vapour deposition method

Carbon nanotube （CNT） arrays were fabricated on Ct-Me-N-（O） alloys with content of Ct in the range of 6-40 at.% by chemical vapour deposition. The Ct was a catalytic metal from the group of the following elements： Ni, Co, Fe, Pd, while Me was a transition metal from the group of IV-VII of the periodic table （where Me=Ti, V, Cr, Zr, Nb, Mo, Ta, W, Re）. Carbon nanotubes were found to grow efficiently on the alloy surface with its composition containing Ti, V, Cr, Zr, Hf, Nb or Ta. The growth of CNTs was not observed when the alloy contained W or Re. Additions of oxygen and nitrogen in the alloy facilitated the formation of oxynitrides and catalyst extrusion on the alloy surface. Replacement of the metals in alloy composition affected the diameter of the resulting CNTs. The obtained results showed that the alloy films of varying thickness （10-500 nm） may be used for the CNTs growth. The resulting CNT material was highly homogenous and its synthesis reproducible.

In this work,we determine the parameters of spiral structure for a sample of face-on spiral *** practice,the solution to this problem is a hard task because of the diversity of observed characteristics associated with spiral structure,such as the number of arms,their shape,arm contrast,*** study spiral structure in galaxies based on an analysis of photometric cuts perpendicular to the arm *** method is based on an approximation of these slices with an analytical function and derivation of the parameters of spiral structure(arm width,asymmetry,pitch angle)using the fitted parameters from this *** algorithm has been applied to a sample of 155 galaxies selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey in different *** this paper,we only consider the results on arm width:most spirals exhibit an increase in their width with galactocentric *** 14 per cent of galaxies in our sample show an opposite trend or have an almost constant arm width at all radii.

Materials possessing antipolar cation motions are currently receiving a lot of attention because they are fundamentally intriguing while being technologically *** studies devoted to these complex materials have focused on their static properties or on their zone-center *** a result,some important dynamics of antipolar cation distortions,such as the temperature behavior of their phonon frequencies,have been much less investigated,despite the possibility to exhibit unusual ***,we report the results and analysis of atomistic simulations revealing and explaining such dynamics for BiFeO3 bulks being subject to hydrostatic *** is first predicted that cooling such material yields the following phase transition sequence:the cubic paraelectric Pm3m state at high temperature,followed by an intermediate phase possessing long-range-ordered in-phase oxygen octahedral tiltings,and then the Pnma state that is known to possess antipolar cation motions in addition to in-phase and antiphase oxygen octahedral *** cation modes are found to all have high phonon frequencies that are independent of temperature in the paraelectric *** the other hand and in addition to antipolar cation modes increasing in number,some phonons possessing antipolar cation character are rather soft in the intermediate and Pnma *** of our data combined with the development of a simple model reveals that such features originate from a dynamical mixing between pure antipolar cation phonons and fluctuations of oxygen octahedral tiltings,as a result of a specific trilinear energetic *** developed model can also be easily applied to predict dynamics of antipolar cation motions for other possible structural paths bringing Pm3m to Pnma states.

Russian school of the theory and geometry of gearing： Its origin and golden period （1935-1975）

During the second half of the twentieth century, Soviet scientists were among the world leaders in the theory and geometry of gearing or the theoretical fundamentals of designing gears and gear-cutting tools. The authors of the current paper review works related to the development of the theory of gearing （TG） written in Russian from the mid-1930s to the present. Overall, the review covers more than 400 publications of nearly 200 authors （among more than 1000 studied works）. This review involves some works on gear strength and accuracy to attract more experts. This paper presents a short list of works from the seventeenth century to the nineteenth century and discusses the basic concepts of the TG. This paper also includes a review of more than 160 papers in Russian for the period of 1935-1975, which is the ＂golden age＂ of the TG. The main features and achievements during this period are also considered. The distinctive feature of this review is the use of diagrams that visually present TG experts and the dates and themes of their published works. The diagrams also show the following aspects： 1） The most popular and important themes in a specific period, 2） the most important publications on the themes of interest to readers, and 3） the direction of the works and scope of interests of every researcher.

Rodent burrow network dynamics under human-induced landscape transformation from desert to steppe in Kalmykian rangelands

Rodents play an important role in rangelands through the engineering of extensive burrow systems,which provides key habitats for many animal and plant *** have analyzed the long-term variation in the abundance and distribution of rodent burrows in grazing ecosystems of southern Russia(Kalmykia)under the landscape change from desert to steppe caused by the drastic reduction of livestock after the collapse of the USSR in the early *** conducted burrow surveys in the“desert”(1980)and“steppe”(2017)periods on 193-km *** found considerable changes in burrow abundance and distribution,as well as evidence of desert habitat fragmentation and isolation caused by the expansion of tall-grass *** of the open-dwelling diurnal ground squirrel(Spermophilus pygmaeus),the dominant and the keystone species during the“desert”period,almost completely disappeared from the rodent burrow network by 2017,indicating significant habitat *** contrast,the burrows of the folivorous social vole(Microtus socialis)which was rare in the 1980s,became abundant and ubiquitously *** burrow density of the desert-dwelling psammophilous midday gerbil(Meriones meridianus)decreased,while the distances between occupied patches increased,indicating desert habitat fragmentation and loss of population *** of the folivorous tamarisk gerbils(***)were recorded only sporadically in both 1980 and *** observed changes in the rodent burrow network,the key component of grazing ecosystems,correlate with rodent species ecology and can have long-term and important consequences for ecosystem functioning.

Neurobiological risk factors for problematic social media use as a specific form of Internet addiction:A narrative review

Problematic social media use(PSMU)is a behavioral addiction,a specific form of problematic Internet use associated with the uncontrolled use of social *** is typical mostly for modern adolescents and young adults,which are the first generations fully grown up in the era of total digitalization of *** modern biopsychosocial model of the formation of behavioral addictions,postulating the impact of a large number of biological,psychological,and social factors on addictive behavior formation,may be quite applicable to *** this narrative review,we discussed neurobiological risk factors for Internet addiction with a focus on current evidence on the association between PSMU and structural/functional characteristics of the brain and autonomic nervous system,neurochemical correlations,and genetic features.A review of the literature shows that the vast majority of the mentioned neurobiological studies were focused on computer games addiction and generalized Internet addiction(without taking into account the consumed content).Even though a certain number of neuroimaging studies have been conducted for PSMU,there is practically no research on neuropeptide and genetic associations for PSMU to *** fact points to the extremely high relevance of such studies.

Corrosion Behavior of Reactive Sputtered Al_2O_3 and ZrO_2 Thin Films on Mg Disk Immersed in Saline Solution

Magnesium has attracted a lot of attention over the last few decades due to its light weight and potential use as biomaterial However, the poor corrosion resistance of magnesium restricts its practical use for ap- plication where exposure to aggressive aqueous media is unavoidable. This paper describes the growth, characterization and corrosion analyses of Al2O3 and ZrO2 thin film coatings aimed at slowing down the fast degradation of Mg in saline solution. In this study, different thicknesses of Al2O3 and ZrO2 were de- posited on pure magnesium （99.95%） disk using pulsed-DC reactive sputtering process. The microstructure and phase analyses were performed using scanning electron microscopy （SEM） and X-ray diffraction （XRD）, respectively. The corrosion protection behavior of the Al2O3 and ZrO2 coated magnesium samples im- mersed in 0,9 wt% NaCl solution were evaluated using electrochemical measurement techniques, such as open-circuit potential （OCP）, potentiodynamic polarization （PD） and electrochemical impedance spectros- copy （EIS）. The microstructural analyses showed that the Al2O3 thin film coatings have circular grains between 5 and 25 nm, while the ZrO2 coatings have bigger ellipsoidal grains. The results from the electrochemical corrosion analyses showed that the Al2O3 coated Mg disk had corrosion resistance of approximately 3 times that of ZrO2 coated Mg disk. It was also observed that increasing the thickness of the Al2O3 coating im- proved the corrosion resistance of the Mg disk. These results suggest that Al2O3 and ZrO2 coating can be used to effectively control the fast degradation of magnesium for medical implant applications.
