Role of the Ilizarov non-free bone plasty in the management of long bone defects and nonunion: Problems solved and unsolved

BACKGROUND Ilizarov non-free bone plasty is a method of distraction osteogenesis using the Ilizarov apparatus for external fixation which originated in Russia and was disseminated across the world. It has been used in long bone defect and nonunion management along with free vascularized grafting and induced membrane technique. However, the shortcomings and problems of these methods still remain the issues which restrict their overall *** To study the recent available literature on the role of Ilizarov non-free bone plasty in long bone defect and nonunion management, its problems and the solutions to these problems in order to achieve better treatment *** Three databases(Pub Med, Scopus, and Web of Science) were searched for literature sources on distraction osteogenesis, free vascularized grafting and induced membrane technique used in long bone defect and nonunion treatment within a five-year period(2015-2019). Full-text clinical articles in the English language were selected for analysis only if they contained treatment results,complications and described large patient samples(not less than ten cases for congenital, post-tumor resection cases or rare conditions, and more than 20 cases for the rest). Case reports were *** Fifty full-text articles and reviews on distraction osteogenesis were ***-five clinical studies containing large series of patients treated with this method and problems with its outcome were analyzed. It was found that distraction osteogenesis techniques provide treatment for segmental bone defects and nonunion of the lower extremity in many clinical situations, especially in complex problems. The Ilizarov techniques treat the triad of problems simultaneously(bone loss, soft-tissue loss and infection). Management of tibial defects mostly utilizes the Ilizarov circular fixator. Monolateral fixators are preferable in the femur. The use of a ring fixator is recommended in patients with an infected tibial bone

Satellite mapping of air temperature under polar night conditions

A novel satellite technique for air temperature mapping with a spatial resolution of~100 m was proposed for the town of Apatity,the Kola Peninsula(Russia),taken as a case *** main idea behind this novel technique is to find the statistical relationships between the land surface temperatures in each point of the study area,observed by multiple infrared thermal satellite imagery,and the time series of air temperatures recorded by World Meteorological Organization(WMO)weather *** scenes of infrared thermal spectral band of the Landsat satellites for the period 2014–2019 were used,as well as the long-term time series of air temperature from the weather station and the results of air temperature observations carried out by the network of *** calm weather conditions,according to the ground truth,the error of air temperature mapping wasσ=1.5°C,and the precision was estimated asδ=1.0°*** analysis of the compiled air temperature map showed that,under polar night conditions,the air temperature on the hilltops was by 10–18°C higher than in the *** was concluded that,for economic reasons,as well as for the reasons of population health protection in the Arctic,it would be advisable to plan the placement of new cities on the *** of these new areas should be designed in a“semi-isolated”manner in order to minimize the time needed by the local people for crossing the lowlands between the nearby districts.A characteristic feature of modern megalopolises is their internal structure formed by the growing primary settlements that can be considered as nuclei interlinked by transportation ***,the new Arctic cities can be called“Arctic megalopolises”because of their internal structure that is specific to megalopolises.

Development of electric power cooperation in Northeast Asia

The development of interstate electric ties ISETs and grids(ISGs) is a global process; recently, countries of Northeast Asia(NEA) that were previously very poorly connected have started to study the possibility of constructing ISETs and ISGs. This paper describes the current state of the interstate transmissions in the NEA region, considering the prospective projects of ISETs in NEA. The results of the system optimization study on prospective NEA ISGs are provided. The proposals on the development of electric power cooperation in NEA are formulated.

Role of a Signalling System in Gene Interaction in Inheritance of Root System Characteristics of Arabidopsis thaliana (L.) Heynh.

The central problem of genetics is gene interaction since genes in the course of individual organism development interact with other genes, that’s why their effects may change. Studies for the last 100 years managed to discover that the entire diversity of inter-gene interactions is presented in four major forms: complementarity, epistasis, polymery, and modifying effect of genes. However, gene interaction mechanism which is reflected on the segregation nature of variously crossed hybrids has not been sufficiently studied. Exclusive of molecular genetics, biochemistry and physiology, a genetic analysis of inheritance of characteristics in gene interaction taken by itself cannot reveal nature of this interaction. Lately, molecular-genetic and physiological studies on A. thaliana mutants have enabled to isolate and sequence a wide range of genes controlling certain links of the signalling chain. At the same time, effect of the plant development regulation signalling system on interaction of these genes in inheritance of characteristics of Arabidopsis root system haven’t been studied so far which was a cause for our studies. Gene interaction problem is closely related to the plant development regulation signalling system. Mechanism involved in gene interaction may be explained based on current idea of molecular principles of biological response. Affected by mutations occurring in various genes that control certain links of the signalling chain, signalling path to the cell nucleus and response are blocked partially or in full which leads to distortion in expression of the characteristic on the plant level in general or its organ level. Such phenomenon is observed in realization of many characteristics in animals and plants, including in A. thaliana. In inheritance of such characteristics, as a rule, both allelic, and non-allelic gene interactions are observed. Learning the right channel in multimodal imaging: automated experiment in piezoresponse force microscopy

We report the development and experimental implementation of the automated experiment workflows for the identification of thebest predictive channel for a phenomenon of interest in spectroscopic measurements. The approach is based on the combinationof ensembled deep kernel learning for probabilistic predictions and a basic reinforcement learning policy for channel selection. Itallows the identification of which of the available observational channels, sampled sequentially, are most predictive of selectedbehaviors, and hence have the strongest correlations. We implement this approach for multimodal imaging in piezoresponse forcemicroscopy (PFM), with the behaviors of interest manifesting in piezoresponse spectroscopy. We illustrate the best predictivechannel for polarization-voltage hysteresis loop and frequency-voltage hysteresis loop areas is amplitude in the model samples. Thesame workflow and code are applicable for any multimodal imaging and local characterization methods.

Enhanced strength-ductility synergy in a wire and arc additively manufactured Mg alloy via tuning interlayer dwell time

Strength-ductility trade-off is a common issue in Mg alloys. This work proposed that a synergistic enhancement of strength and ductility could be achieved through tuning interlayer dwell time(IDT) in the wire and arc additive manufacturing(WAAM) process of Mg *** thermal couples were used to monitor the thermal history during the WAAM process. Additionally, the effect of different IDTs on the microstructure characteristics and resultant mechanical properties of WAAM-processed Mg alloy thin-wall were investigated. The results showed that the stable temperature of the thin-wall component could reach 290 ℃ at IDT=0s, indicating that the thermal accumulation effect was remarkable. Consequently, unimodal coarse grains with an average size of 39.6 μm were generated, and the resultant room-temperature tensile property was poor. With the IDT extended to 60s, the thermal input and thermal dissipation reached a balance, and the stable temperature was only 170 ℃, closing to the initial temperature of the substrate. A refined grain structure with bimodal size distribution was obtained. The remelting zone had fine grains with the size of 15.2 μm, while the arc zone owned coarse grains with the size of 24.5 μ*** alternatively distributed coarse and fine grains lead to the elimination of strength-ductility trade-off. The ultimate tensile strength and elongation of the samples at IDT=60s are increased by 20.6 and 75.0% of those samples at IDT=0s, respectively. The findings will facilitate the development of additive manufacturing processes for advanced Mg alloys.

Deep learning ferroelectric polarization distributions from STEM data via with and without atom finding

Over the last decade,scanning transmission electron microscopy(STEM)has emerged as a powerful tool for probing atomic structures of complex materials with picometer precision,opening the pathway toward exploring ferroelectric,ferroelastic,and chemical phenomena on the atomic *** to date extracting a polarization signal from lattice coupled distortions in STEM imaging rely on discovery of atomic positions from intensity maxima/minima and subsequent calculation of polarization and other order parameter fields from the atomic ***,we explore the feasibility of polarization mapping directly from the analysis of STEM images using deep convolutional neural networks(DCNNs).In this approach,the DCNN is trained on the labeled part of the image(i.e.,for human labelling),and the trained network is subsequently applied to other *** explore the effects of the choice of the descriptors(centered on atomic columns and grid-based),the effects of observational bias,and whether the network trained on one composition can be applied to a different *** analysis demonstrates the tremendous potential of the DCNN for the analysis of high-resolution STEM imaging and spectral data and highlights the associated limitations.

Probing atomic-scale symmetry breaking by rotationally invariant machine learning of multidimensional electron scattering

The Siberian Craton and its evolution in terms of the Rodinia hypothesis

Recent geochronological studies in southern Siberia support a Siberian assembly between 2.1 and 1.8 Ga. This broadly coincides with major orogenic events in most other Precambrian continents including Laurentia. In the Mesoproterozoic, Siberia was mainly an area of stable platform sedimentation whereas Laurentia underwent a continental growth from southeast. Lack of traces of the Grenville orogeny in Siberia suggests its peripheral position in Rodinia. The eastern （Uchur- Maya area） and western （Yenisei area） Siberian margins probably faced oceans during the Meso- and Neoproterozoic. Recent geological, geochronological, geochemical and paleomagnetic data suggest integrity of Siberia and Laurentia in the Meso- and early Neoproterozoic with the Siberian southern margin close to the northern margin of Laurentia. However, some ‘intervening＇ continental blocks were probably located between these two cratons. The 750-720 Ma igneous event was probably related to the rifting between Siberia and Laurentia and the opening of the Paleo-Asian Ocean, causing the development of a passive margin sedimentary succession in southern Siberia.

It has been proposed by Zhang et al.[1] that the northern part of the North Chirm Craton (NCC) was connected to the north-western part of the North Australian Craton (NAC) in the Proterozoic, mainly based on the radial geometry of correlative -1.32 Ga dyke swarms in the two cratons (Fig. la). While the hypothetical connection between the NCC and the NAC was thought to be paleomagnetically permissible at ~1.80- 1.78Ga but w让h a slightly different configuration [2], the exact duration of either configuration is uncertain (e.g.,[2,3]).
