Comparison of ring 1 parameters in 37-segment multifocal electroretinography between onset and offset conditions of ring 2 to 4 in normal subjects

AIM: To investigate whether the response of a central hexagonal element corresponding to the macular area in conventional multifocal electroretinography(mfERG) tests was the same as that of experimental mfERG using single central hexagonal element stimulation. METHODS: Prospective, observational study. Thirty healthy subjects were included in this study. mfERG recordings were performed according to two protocols: stimulus with 37 hexagonal elements(protocol 1), and stimulus with a single central element created by deactivating the other 36 hexagonal elements(protocol 2). We compared differences between ring 1 parameters in each protocol. RESULTS: In protocol 1, the first positive component(P1) implicit time and P1 amplitude were 37.8±1.8 ms and 6.3±2.7 μV. After single element stimulation(protocol 2), double positive waves appeared. The implicit time and amplitude of P1 were 40.7±2.4 ms(P<0.001) and 9.1±3.3 μV(P=0.001), respectively. The implicit time and amplitude of the second positive component(P2) were 68.0±4.5 ms(P<0.001, compared with P1 in protocol 1) and 12.3±4.7 μV(P<0.001, compared with P1 in protocol 1), respectively. The amplitude of P2 in protocol 2 was about two times higher than that of P1 in protocol 1. CONCLUSION: mfERG responses of a central hexagonal element in a single element stimulation protocol are different from those of multiple element stimulation. The positive wave is more enhanced compared to that of the conventional protocol and it elongated into two wavelets.

Changes on optical coherence tomography angiography and fluorescein angiography in eyes with neovascular age-related macular degeneration

AIM:lo evaluate the changes on optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA) and fluorescein angiography(FA) and their correlation in neovascular agerelated macular degeneration(nAMD) before and after intravitreal aflibercept injections(IAIs).METHODS:In 43 treatment-na?ve patients with nAMD,choroidal neovascularization(CNV) in OCTA were morphologically and quantitatively analyzed before and after IAIs to determine whether they are correlated with leakage on FA or *** combining CNV in OCTA and leakage in FA,lesions were characterized as three types:L+C+(with both CNV and leakage),L-C+(with CNV but without leakage),or L+C-lesion(with leakage outside CNV).RESULTS:Before IAI,while 27 eyes had L+C+lesion only,16 eyes had both L+C+and L-C+lesions *** capillaries and anastomosis in CNV were more developed in L+C+lesion,at 86.0% and58.1%,respectively,relative to 9.3% and 9.3% in L-C+lesions(P<0.001).After IAIs in 33 eyes,tiny capillaries and anastomosis were decreased in the lesions with cessation of leakage on FA(P<0.001 and P=0.001,respectively).In quantitative analysis,neovascularization length and numbers of junctions and endpoints were also significantly ***:Leakage on FA is associated with CNV morphology in OCTA and remained so after ***,by carefully assessing the morphological and quantitative changes of CNV in OCTA before and after treatment,activity of nAMD is expected even though CNV on OCTA is not completely matched with fluorescein leakage.

Removal of primary iron rich phase from aluminum-silicon melt by centrifugal separation

Recycling is a major consideration in continued aluminum use due to the enormous demand for high quality products. Some impurity elements gradually accumulate through the repetitive reuse of aluminum alloy scrap. Of them, the iron content should be suppressed under the allowed limit. In the present research, a novel separation method was introduced to remove primary iron-rich intermetallic compounds by centrifugation during solidification of AI-Si-Fe alloys. This method does not use the density difference between two phases as in other centrifugal methods, but uses the order of solidification in AI-Si-Fe alloys, because iron promotes the formation of intermetallic compounds with other alloying elements as a primary phase. Two AI-Si-Fe alloys which have different iron contents were chosen as the starting materials. The iron-rich phase could be efficiently removed by centrifuging under a centrifugal force of 40 g. Coarse intermetallic compounds were found in the sample inside the crucible, while rather fine intermetallic compounds were found in the sample outside the crucible. Primary intermetallic compounds were linked to each other via aluminum-rich matrix, and formed like a network. The highest iron removal fraction is 67% and the lowest one is 7% for AI-12Si-1.7Fe alloy. And they are 82% and 18% for AI-12Si-3.4Fe alloy, respectively.

Risk factors for posterior synechiae of the iris after 23-gauge phacovitrectomy

AIM:To identify risk factors for the development of posterior synechiae of the iris(PSI) after 23-gauge ***:A retrospective chart review was performed in consecutive Asian patients treated with 23-gauge phacovitrectomy with a 3-piece intraocular lens(IOL) or a single-piece 4 haptics ***:A total of 263 eyes from 242 patients were included in the study. Postoperative PSI was identified in16(6.1%) eyes. In multivariate analysis, C3F8 gas tamponade, oil tamponade, and long operation time were significantly associated with PSI formation. There was no difference in the incidence of PSI between the groups using two different types of IOL(P =0.779).·CONLUSION: C3F8 gas or oil tamponade and long operation time increased the incidence of PSI after 23-gauge phacovitrectomy. The single-piece 4 haptics IOL,in lieu of a 3-piece IOL, may be inserted into the capsular bag with a comparable incidence of PSI.

The intensity attenuation of a high-power laser is a frequent task in the measurements of optical *** intensity can be attenuated by inserting an optical element,such as a partial reflector,polarizer or absorption *** devices are,however,not always easily applicable,especially in the case of ultra-high-power lasers,because they can alter the characteristics of a laser beam or become easily *** this study,we demonstrated that the intensity of a laser beam could be effectively attenuated using a random pinhole attenuator(RPA),a device with randomly distributed pinholes,without changing the beam *** this device,a multi-PW laser beam was successfully attenuated and the focused beam profile was measured without any alterations of its *** addition,it was confirmed that the temporal profile of a laser pulse,including the spectral phase,was ***,the RPA possesses significant potential for a wide range of applications.

Dragonfly Interaction Algorithm for Optimization of Queuing Delay in Industrial Wireless Networks

Tracking of horizontal alignment of the long and large diameter uncharged hole in NATM tunnel

The long and large diameter uncharged hole boring(LLB)method is a cut blasting method that minimizes blast-induced vibrations by creating long and large diameter uncharged holes at the excavation face of tunnels prior to tunnel *** in this method typically uses a 50 m long with a 382 mm diameter hammer bit in the horizontal direction at the tunnel ***,the significant weight and uni-directional rotation of the rod head,as well as variables such as geological characteristics,machine conditions,and inexperienced operators result in significant deviation from the target borehole alignment that hinders the vibration-dampening effect of the uncharged ***,since there is no method to verify the alignment of the boreholes until main tunnel construction,borehole misalignment is often not discovered until weeks after construction,which requires tunnel construction to cease until the equipment can be remobilized and an additional borehole be created,causing significant delays and increased costs for the entire tunnel *** this study,the borehole alignment tracking and ground exploration system(BGS)is developed to predict and monitor the quality and alignment of boreholes for cut blasting methods such as the LLB methods immediately after *** BGS was subsequently tested at a subway construction site to evaluate its performance in the *** measurements yielded by the BGS were compared with manually measured boring positions at every 5 m along the *** the BGS showed a maximum deviation of approximately 12%at a local point where the hole surface was relatively rough,the accuracy for the final boring position was approximately 97%,demonstrating excellent precision of the alignment tracking *** BGS demonstrates excellent performance in predicting ground conditions and the boring quality of a cut hole immediately after drilling,and shows promise in various other applications for monitoring borehole alignment.

Sulfide-based inorganic solid electrolytes are promising materials for high-performance safe solid-state *** high ion conductivity,mechanical characteristics,and good processability of sulfide-based inorganic solid electrolytes are desirable properties for realizing high-performance safe solid-state batteries by replacing conventional liquid ***,the low chemical and electrochemical stability of sulfide-based inorganic solid electrolytes hinder the commercialization of sulfide-based safe solid-state ***,the instability of sulfide-based inorganic solid electrolytes is intensified in the cathode,comprising various *** this study,carbonate-based ionic conductive polymers are introduced to the cathode to protect cathode materials and suppress the reactivity of sulfide *** instruments,including electrochemical spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,and scanning electron microscopy,confirm the chemical and electrochemical stability of the polymer electrolytes in contact with sulfide-based inorganic solid ***-based solid-state cells show stable electrochemical performance over 100 cycles when the ionic conductive polymers were applied to the cathode.
