Stevens-Johnson syndrome and concurrent hand foot syndrome during treatment with capecitabine:A case report

BACKGROUND Capecitabine is used in combination with lapatinib as palliative treatment for human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-positive metastatic breast *** most frequently reported adverse events attributed to capecitabine include diarrhea,hyperbilirubinemia,and hand-foot syndrome(HFS).A number of cutaneous adverse events have been attributed to capecitabine,including Stevens-Johnson syndrome(SJS)as a rare and potentially life-threatening mucocutaneous *** report the first case involving concurrent SJS and HFS after capecitabine and lapatinib *** SUMMARY A 70-year-old woman with a history of breast cancer treatment visited our hospital for evaluation of painful skin *** weeks earlier,she had been prescribed capecitabine plus lapatinib as treatment for metastatic breast *** subsequently developed worsening erythema and bullae on her palms and soles,as well as reddish macules on her back and chest *** evaluation of the chest wall lesions revealed extensive eosinophilic epidermal necrosis and separation of the epidermis from the *** capecitabine plus lapatinib treatment was discontinued immediately and treatment was started using systemic *** treatment resolved most lesions,although the lesions on her palms and soles required Vaseline gauze dressings,which resulted in ***,we determined that the patient had concurrent SJS and *** the dermatological problems resolved,the patient ultimately died because of multiple organ *** Oral capecitabine treatment carries a risk of both HFS and also life-threatening adverse cutaneous drug reactions,such as SJS.

Improvement of hydrogen embrittlement and stress corrosion cracking by annealing for Al-4.4Mg-0.6Mn alloy

With no annealing treatment, cathodic polarization trends in 5083F A1 alloy revealed concentration polarization and activation polarization. However, the annealed specimens have lower current densities at corrosion protection potential compared to the non-annealed specimen. The results of SSRTs conducted in seawater at the applied potential range of-l.8 V to -0.5 V indicated that the maximum tensile strength, elongation, and time-to-fracture had high values at applied potentials of -0.7 to -1.4 V. The maximum tensile strength, elongation, and time-to-f？acture decreased when the potential values were beyond this range in either anodic or cathodic direction. In general, the increased shear lip caused by annealing treatment indicates elongation. Time-to-fracture would likely increase with elongation. Potentials between -0.5 V to -0.6 V were found to be in the region of stress corrosion cracking. The corrosion protection zone was determined to be -0.7 V to -J,4 V because these potential ranges produced good mechanical properties. Potential less than -1.4 V produced a fractured surface with a mixture of dimples （ductile fractures） and a quasi-cleavage pattern resulting from the effects of hydrogen gas.

Suggestion of advanced regression model on friction angle of fault gouge in South Korea

Although friction characteristics of fault gouge are important to understand reactivation of fault,behavior of earthquake,and mechanism of slope failure,analysis results of fault gouge have low accuracy mostly than those of soils or rocks due to its high heterogeneity and low ***,to improve the accuracy of analysis results,we conducted simple regression analysis and structural equation model analysis and selected major influential factors of friction characteristics among many factors,and then we deduced advanced regression model with the highest coefficient of determination(R^(2)) via multiple regression *** most coefficients of determination in simple regression analysis are below0.3-0.4,coefficient of determination in multiple regression analysis is remarkably large as 0.657.

The lifespan of plasma-sprayed thermal barrier coating(TBC)systems is difficult to predict owing to the variety of microstructures and deterioration *** this study,we developed a novel TBC damage model to reflect deterioration histories;thus,it can be applied to various *** to TBCs is classifed into oxidation and mechanical damage;therefore,a detailed deterioration history can be *** addition,by introducing a virtual S–N diagram,a life prediction model that can be applied to TBCs with various microstructures was *** used the proposed damage and life prediction models in isothermal aging and thermal cycle tests with different aging *** predicted lifespan of TBCs by using the proposed models was within 95%of the results obtained by performing actual tests in the temperature range of 1150–1350℃.

Electrothermal metasurfaces have garneredconsiderable attention owing to their ability to dynamicallycontrol thermal infrared radiation. Although previousstudies were mainly focused on metasurfaces with infiniteunit cells, in practice, the finite-size effect can be a criticaldesign factor for developing thermal metasurfaces withfast response and broad temperature uniformity. Here, westudy the thermal metasurfaces consisting of goldnanorods with a finite array size, which can achieve aresonance close to that of the infinite case with onlyseveral periods. More importantly, such a small footprintdue to the finite array size yields response time down to ananosecond level. Furthermore, the number of the unitcells in the direction perpendicular to the axis of nanorodsis found to be insensitive to the resonance and responsetime;thus, providing a tunable aspect ratio that can boostthe temperature uniformity in the sub-Kelvin level.

Corner cube retroreflectors(CCRs)have applications in sensors,image processing,free space communication and wireless *** ability to construct low-loss wavelength filters embedded in CCRs can enable the development of wavelength multiplexing,tunable lasers and photonic integrated *** we created an~10-μm-thick holographic corner cube retroreflector(HCCR)array that acted as a color-selective wavelength filter and diffracted light at broad ***-resolved spectral measurements showed that the Bragg peak of the diffracted light from the HCCR array could be tuned from 460 to 545 nm by varying the incident *** HCCR array also exhibited a wavelength-selective tuning capability based on the rotation angle in the visible *** projected holographic images with the rotational property in the far *** utility of the HCCR was demonstrated as optical temperature and relative humidity sensors that produced a visible colorimetric response for rapid diagnostics.

The ability to track individual cells in space over time is crucial to analyzing heterogeneous cell ***,microlaser particles have emerged as unique optical probes for massively multiplexed single-cell ***,the microlaser far-field emission is inherently direction-dependent,which causes strong intensity fluctuations when the orientation of the particle varies randomly inside ***,we demonstrate a general solution based on the incorporation of nanoscale light scatterers into *** schemes are developed by introducing either boundary defects or a scattering layer into microdisk *** resulting laser output is omnidirectional,with the minimum-to-maximum ratio of the angle-dependent intensity improving from 0.007(-24 dB)to>0.23(-6dB).After transfer into live cells in vitro,the omnidirectional laser particles within moving cells could be tracked continuously with high signal-to-noise ratios for 2 h,while conventional microlasers exhibited frequent signal loss causing tracking failure.

The aim of this study was to design and evaluate extended-release formulations of a model drug,nicorandil,in order to achieve the desired steady-state plasma concentration of drug in *** was employed to estimate optimum dissolution and absorption rate of *** dissolution test was employed using pH 1.2,4.0,6.8 buffer solution,or water,to measure the in vitro release behaviors of nicorandil formulations.A single dose(15 mg)of each formulation was orally administered to four beagle dogs under fasted conditions,and the pharmacokinetic parameters were *** in vitro/in vivo relationship of the extended-release formulation was confirmed using in vitro dissolution profiles and plasma concentrations of drug in beagle *** was released completely within 30 min from the immediate-release tablets and released for 24 h from the extended-release *** nicorandil plasma concentration could be modified by adjusting the drug release rate from the extended-release *** release rate of nicorandil was the rate-limiting step in the overall absorption of drug from the extendedrelease *** results highlight the potential of a nicorandil extended-release formulation in the treatment of angina pectoris.

High Order Conservative Semi-Lagrangian Scheme for the BGK Model of the Boltzmann Equation

In this paper,we present a conservative semi-Lagrangian finite-difference scheme for the BGK *** semi-Lagrangian finite difference schemes,coupled with an L-stable treatment of the collision term,allow large time steps,for all the range of Knudsen number[17,27,30].Unfortunately,however,such schemes are not *** of conservation is analyzed in detail,and two main sources are identified as its ***,when using classical continuous Maxwellian,conservation error is negligible only if velocity space is resolved with sufficiently large number of grid ***,for a small number of grid points in velocity space such error is not negligible,because the parameters of the Maxwellian do not coincide with the discrete ***,the non-linear reconstruction used to prevent oscillations destroys the translation invariance which is at the basis of the conservation properties of the *** a consequence the schemes show a wrong shock speed in the limit of small Knudsen *** treat the first problem and ensure machine precision conservation of mass,momentum and energy with a relatively small number of velocity grid points,we replace the continuous Maxwellian with the discrete Maxwellian introduced in[22].The second problem is treated by implementing a conservative correction procedure based on the flux difference form as in[26].In this way we can construct conservative semi-Lagrangian schemes which are Asymptotic Preserving(AP)for the underlying Euler limit,as the Knudsen number *** effectiveness of the proposed scheme is demonstrated by extensive numerical tests.
