Arthroscopic treatment of iliopsoas tendinitis after total hip arthroplasty with acetabular cup malposition: Two case reports

BACKGROUND Optimal treatment for iliopsoas tendinitis after total hip arthroplasty(THA)with cup malposition,iliopsoas release alone or with cup revision,is controversial,particularly in young,active ***,arthroscopic iliopsoas tendon(IPT)release in these patients has been rarely described,and midterm effects of this procedure on THA longevity and groin pain recurrence remain *** performed arthroscopic IPT release after THA and report midterm outcomes in two young patients with acetabular cup *** SUMMARY In the two patients,groin pain started early after *** examination revealed nonspecific findings,and laboratory tests showed no evidence of *** and computed tomography showed reduced acetabular component anteversion angle and anterior cup prominence of more than 16 *** therapeutic diagnosis,ultrasonography-guided lidocaine with steroid was injected into the IPT *** both patients,groin pain improved initially but worsened after a few ***,the patients underwent arthroscopic IPT release under spinal *** revealed synovitis with fibrous tissues around the IPT and various lesions related to the implants after *** tenotomy and debridement with biopsy were performed;histopathologic studies showed chronic inflammation with synovial *** patients were encouraged to start walking immediately after surgery,and they returned to complete daily function early after *** experienced no recurrence of groin pain or any implant-related problems 5 years *** Arthroscopic IPT release for cup malposition produced excellent midterm outcomes without recurrence of groin pain and implant-related problems.

Sodium-ion batteries are considered as promising alternatives to lithium-ion batteries,owing to their low cost and abundant raw *** the several candidate materials for the anode,spinel-type Li_(4)Ti_(5)O_(12)has potential owing to its superior safety originating from an appropriate operating voltage and the reversible Na^(+)intercalation ***,a low diffusion coefficient for Na^(+)and the insulating nature of LTO remains challenging for practical sodium-ion battery ***,we present a strategy for integrating physical and chemical approaches to achieve superior electrochemical properties in *** demonstrate that carefully controlling the amount of Cr doping is crucial to enhance the electrochemical properties of nanostructured *** Cr doped LTO shows a superior reversible capacity of 110 m Ah g^(-1) after 400 cycles at 1 C,with a three-fold higher capacity(75 m Ah g^(-1))at 10 C compared with undoped LTO *** suggests that appropriately Cr doped nanostructured LTO is a promising anode material for sodium-ion batteries.

Formation of unidirectional nanoporous structures in thickly anodized aluminum oxide layer

A series of anodic aluminum oxide(AAO) was grown on the commercially pure 1050 aluminum sheet by controlling electrolyte temperature(2-15 ℃) and anodizing time(0.5-6 h),using a fixed applied current density of 3 A/dm2 in diluted sulfuric acid electrolyte.A crack-free thick AAO with the thickness of 105-120 μm and containing unidirectional nano sized pores(average pore diameter of 5-7 nm) is successfully achieved in the specimens anodized for 2 h,irrespective of electrolyte *** anodizing time reaches 6 h,very thick AAO with the thickness of 230-284 μm is grown,and average diameter of unidirectional pores is in the range of 6-24 *** higher values in both the AAO thickness and pore diameter are attained for the specimens anodized at higher temperatures of 10-15 ℃.A crack is observed to exist in the AAO after anodizing up to 4 h and more.A higher fraction(more than 9%) of the crack is shown in the specimens anodized at higher temperatures of 10-15 ℃ for 6 h and a considerable amount of giant cracks are contained.

Construction of random sheared fosmid library from Chinese cabbage and its use for Brassica rapa genome sequencing project

As a part of the Multinational Genome Sequencing Project of Brassica rapa, linkage group R9 and R3 were sequenced using a bacterial artificial chromosome （BAC） by BAC strategy. The current physical contigs are expected to cover approximately 90% euchromatins of both chromosomes. As the project progresses, BAC selection for sequence extension becomes more limited because BAC libraries are restriction enzyme-specific. To support the project, a random sheared fosmid library was constructed. The library consists of 97536 clones with average insert size of approximately 40 kb corresponding to seven genome equivalents, assuming a Chinese cabbage genome size of 550 Mb. The library was screened with primers designed at the end of sequences of nine points of scaffold gaps where BAC clones cannot be selected to extend the physical contigs. The selected positive clones were end-sequenced to check the overlap between the fosmid clones and the adjacent BAC clones. Nine fosmid clones were selected and fully sequenced. The sequences revealed two completed gap filling and seven sequence extensions, which can be used for further selection of BAC clones confirming that the fosmid library will facilitate the sequence completion of B. rapa.

This paper presents a high-efficiency technique based on dielectrophoresis (DEP) for assembling metal, semiconductor, and polymer nanorods, which are synthesized by electrochemical deposition (ECD). The assembly patterns of these nanorods (width: 20 nm; length: 7 μm) were designed using a finite element method (FEM) simulation tool. Further, these nanorods were used in our experiment after their assembly patterns were fabricated. The assembly yield was found to be approximately 70% at an AC voltage of 30 Vp-p and at frequencies of 20 and 30 kHz, and the DC voltage prevented the random alignment of the nanorods at the edge of the assembly pattern. Moreover, the above-mentioned nanorods, which had different permittivities, were found to have similar assembly yields. The proposed method can be improved and applied to nanostructure device fabrication.

Prediction of nephrotoxicity induced by cisplatin combination chemotherapy in gastric cancer patients

AIM:To evaluate the treatment options for nephrotoxicity due to cisplatin combination ***:We retrospectively reviewed patients who had received cisplatin combination chemotherapy for gastric cancer between January 2002 and December *** investigated patients who had shown acute renal failure(ARF),and examined their clinical characteristics,laboratory data,use of preventive measures,treatment cycles,the amount of cisplatin administered,recovery period,subsequent treatments,and renal status between the recovered and unrecovered ***:Forty-one of the 552 patients had serum creatinine(SCR)levels greater than 1.5 mg/*** found that pre-ARF SCR,ARF SCR,and ARF glomerular filtration rates were significantly associated with renal status postARF between the two groups(P=0.008,0.026,0.026,respectively).On the receiver operating characteristic curve of these values,a 1.75 mg/dL ARF SCR value had 87.5%sensitivity and 84.8%specificity(P=0.011).CONCLUSION:Cessation or reduction of chemotherapy should be considered for patients who have an elevation of SCR levels during cisplatin combination chemotherapy.

Cost-Effective Approaches of Circumferential Electro Wedge Brake for Reducing Unbalance-Wears

Existing hydraulic braking systems in the vehicle is composed of the brake pedal, the hydraulic booster and the hydraulic caliper. The driver transmits one＇s breaking intent through the brake pedal stroke and force. The hydraulic booster can amplify the pedal force, only when the engine operates. The hydraulic caliper is composed of cylinders, pistons. There are also hydraulic pipes from the booster to the caliper. Currently, X-By-Wire technology is researched actively due to the exhaustion of fuel and the regulation of CO2. As a chain of this trend, the e-pedal and an electric mechanical brake （EMB） also are highlighted. At the beginning of EMB development, high-torque and high-power motors are required in order to implement the existing hydraulic calipers＇ clamping force. This has some limits as the need of big spaces and high costs. Then the electro wedge brake （EWB） is launching with self-reinforcement features of the wedge structure. EWB can generate big clamping forces with small size and low-torque motors with good braking-efficiency. In recent, the disc＇s circumferential face clamping one has been researched, for better heat-emission ability and better braking-efficiency compared to the existing disc＇s lateral face clamping method. But, this circumferential face clamping method can have worse unbalance-wear features compared to lateral face clamping one. In this study, the authors describe their circumferential EWB concepts, the method for reducing unbalance-wear feature of circumferential EWB, and the cost-effective implementation of circumferential EWB, in particular focused on nonlinear counter-wedge profile which is appropriate to reduce unbalance-wear.

Change in renal function after sodium phosphate preparation for screening colonoscopy

AIM:To investigate the changes in renal function at 12-24 mo in patients following sodium phosphate(NaP) preparation for screening ***:We carried out a retrospective study on the results from patients who received health check-up services as part of an employer-provided wellness program performed between August 2006 and May 2008 and who were followed up for 12-24 *** to screening colonoscopy,224 patients underwent bowel cleansing with NaP(NaP group) and 113 patients with polyethylene glycol(PEG group).The control group comprised 672 age-matched *** compared the changes in the creatinine levels and the glomerular filtration rates(GFRs) from baseline to 12-24 mo between the NaP,PEG,and control groups using two-way repeated measured analysis of *** addition,multivariate linear regression analysis was performed to assess the risk factors for a decreased ***:The baseline mean serum creatinine level in the NaP,PEG,and control groups was 1.12 ± 0.15,1.12 ± 0.16,and 1.12 ± 0.15 mg/dL,which increased to 1.15 ± 0.15,1.15 ± 0.18,and 1.15 ± 0.15 mg/dL,respectively,after 12-24 *** baseline mean GFR in the NaP,PEG,and control groups was 69.0 ± 7.7,68.9 ± 8.0,and 69.6 ± 6.7 mL/min per 1.73 m2,which decreased to 66.5 ± 7.8,66.5 ± 8.3,and 67.4 ± 6.4 mL/min per 1.73 m2,respectively,after 12-24 *** changes in serum creatinine levels and GFRs were not significantly between the NaP,PEG,and control groups(P = 0.992 and P = 0.233,respectively).Using multivariate linear regression analysis,only the baseline GFR was associated with the change in GFR(P < 0.001).Indeed,the bowel preparations were not associated with the change in GFR(P = 0.297).CONCLUSION:NaP bowel preparation in subjects with normal renal function was not associated with renal injury,and NaP can thus be used safely for screening colonoscopy.
