Unconventional hydrodynamics of hybrid fluid made of liquid metals and aqueous solution under applied fields

The hydrodynamic characteristics of hybrid fluid made of liquid metal/aqueous solution are elementary in the design and operation of conductive flow in a variety of newly emerging areas such as chip cooling, soft robot, and biomedical practices. chemical properties, such as In terms of physical and density, thermal conductivity and electrical conductivity, their huge differences between the two fluidic phases remain a big challenge for analyzing the hybrid flow behaviors. Besides, the liquid metal immersed in the solution can move and deform when administrated with non-contact electromagnetic force, or even induced by redox reaction, which is entirely different from the cases of conventional contact force. Owing to its remarkable capability in flow and deformation, liquid metal immersed in the solution is apt to deform on an extremely large scale, resulting in marked changes on its boundary and interface. However, the working mechanisms of the movement and deformation of liquid metal lack appropriate models to describe such scientific issues via a set of well-established unified equations. To promote investigations in this important area, the present paper is dedicated to summarizing this unconventional hydrodynamics from experiment, theory, and simulation. Typical experimental phenomena and basic working mechanisms are illustrated, followed by the movement and deformation theories to explain these phenomena. Several representative simulation methods are then proposed to tackle the governing functions of the electrohydrodynamics. Finally, prospects and challenges are raised, offering an insight into the new physics of the hybrid fluid under applied fields.

Analysis of Prognosis of 122 Colorectal Cancer Patients with Concurrent Liver Metastasis

OBJECTIVE To explore prognostic factors and treatmentchoices for colorectal cancer (CRC) patients with concurrent livermetastases (CLM).METHODS The data of the 122 CRC patients with CLM, whowere treated in our hospital from January 2000 to December 2005,were collected. Overall survival rate of the patients in our groupwas analyzed using Kaplan-Meier method, and the univariateand multivariate analyses of the 18 factors affecting the survivalrate, including clinicopathologic factors and treatment methods,were conducted using Log-rank test and Cox regression model(SPSS13.0).RESULTS The median survival time of the 122 patients withCRC was 13 months. The 1, 2, 3 and 5-year survival rate was52.46%, 24.59%, 12.30% and 3.28%, respectively. Univariateanalysis combined with Kaplan-Meier curve revealed that thefactors of prognosis included the size of the primary tumor, thelevels of differentiation, lymphatic status, cancerous ileus (CI),the number, size and distribution of liver metastases, extrahepaticinvolvement, the serum CEA level at diagnosis, treatmentmodality, the extent of primary resection, chemotherapeuticmodality and regimen. Multivariate analysis showed that CI,differentiation levels, serum CEA value at diagnosis and treatmentmodality were the independent prognostic factors of CRC patientswith *** For the CRC patients with CLM, poordifferentiation of the tumor and CI, as well as a high CEAlevel indicate an unfavorable prognosis. Treatment choice is ofspecial significance in treating the CRC patients with CLM, soactive radical excision of the primary tumor and liver metastasisis strongly recommended in the CRC patients with hepaticmetastasis alone. Interventional chemotherapy has advantagescompared with the whole-body chemotherapy via peripheral vein,and the regimen of systemic chemotherapy containing oxaliplatinis preferred.

Tumor lysis syndrome after transarterial chemoembolization of hepatocellular carcinoma: Case reports and literature review

Tumor lysis syndrome (TLS) is a potentially lethal complication in cancer therapy. It may occur in highly sensitive tumors, especially in childhood cancer and leukemia, whereas, it is rare in the treatment of solid tumors in adults. TLS results from a sudden and rapid release of nuclear and cytoplasmic degradation products of malignant cells. The release of these can lead to severe alterations in the metabolic prof ile. Here, we present two cases of large hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated by transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) that resulted in TLS. Although TLS rarely happens in the treatment of adult hepatic tumor, only a few cases have been reported. We should keep in mind that all patients with HCC, particularly those with large and rapidly growing tumors, must be closely watched for evidence of TLS after TACE.

By means of the spectral analysis method,this paper studies a class of generalized Lyapunov equations （GLEs） arising from stochastic stability.A necessary and sufficient condition is given for the existence and uniqueness of the symmetric/skew-symmetric solutions of such GLEs.A sufficient condition for the GLEs have no and have more than one symmetric/skew-symmetric solution is also presented,respectively.

Scrotal septal flap and two-stage operation for complex hypospadias:A retrospective study

BACKGROUND Complex hypospadias is a surgical *** To present the long-term outcomes of two-stage repair of complex hypospadias using a scrotal septal *** This was a retrospective study of patients with complex hypospadias who were operated on between January 1st,2001,and January 1st,2019,at a single hospital using a scrotal septal flap(two-stage surgery)or prepuce flap(one-stage surgery;control group).In the scrotal group,the urethra was first repaired using oral mucosa;in the second stage,a scrotal septal flap was used as a second impermeable ***/average urinary flow rates after surgery were *** patients were followed for≥6 mo(range:6-96 mo).RESULTS Ninety-seven patients were included(46 in the scrotal group and 51 in the prepuce group).The maximal urinary flow rate was 15.4±2.1 mL/s in the scrotal group and 14.3±3.0 mL/s in the control group(P=0.035).The average urinary flow rate was 8.4±2.3 mL/s in the scrotal group and 7.5±1.5 mL/s in the control group(P=0.019).The proportion of patients achieving good therapeutic effects was higher in the scrotal group than in the control group[24(52.2%)vs 16(31.4%),P=0.042;34(73.9%)vs 25(49.0%),P=0.014].The scrotal flap two-stage surgery was independently associated with a higher maximal urinary flow rate(OR=2.416,95%CI:1.026-5.689,P=0.044)and with a higher average flow rate(OR=2.484,95%CI:1.054-5.854,P=0.038).CONCLUSION In complex hypospadias,a scrotal septal flap could be a versatile and reliable option for resurfacing the penis.

Objective: To access the toxicity of forsythin from Forsythia suspensa leaves and evaluate its safety,Methods: Acute toxicity was determined by oral administration of a single dose of 18 100 mg/kg forsythin in NIH mice,Sub-chronic toxicity was evaluated by oral administration of several doses of forsythin for 30 days at does of 0,540,1 620,and 6 480 mg/kg in SD ***: In the acute toxicity study,mortality was not observed after 14 days,In addition,clinically relevant adverse effects,or variations in body weight or food consumption were not observed,Similarly,after 30 days in the sub-chronic toxicity study,no mortality or significant toxicological effects such as decreased food consumption,body weight,biochemical parameters and vital organs etc,were noticed,Conclusion: The results revealed that the forsythin from Forsythia suspensa leaves has low or no toxicity via oral administration,and therefore is suitable for further development and applications.

Effect of carbon nanotubes addition on thermoelectric properties of Ca_(3)Co_(4)O_(9)ceramics

Increasing the phonon scattering center by adding nanoparticles to thermoelectric materials is an effective method of regulating the thermal *** this study,a series of Ca3 Co_(4)O_(9)/x wt.%CNTs(x=0,3,5,7,10)polycrystalline ceramic thermoelectric materials by adding carbon nanotubes(CNTs)were prepared with sol-gel method and cold-pressing sintering *** results of x-ray diffraction and field emission scanning electron microscopy show that the materials have a single-phase structure with high orientation and sheet like *** effect of adding carbon nanotubes to the thermoelectric properties of Ca_(3)Co_(4)O_(9)was systematically *** test results of thermoelectric properties show that the addition of carbon nanotubes reduces the electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient of the ***,the thermal conductivity of the samples with carbon nanotubes addition is lower than that of the samples without carbon *** 625 K,the thermal conductivity of Ca3 Co_(4)O_(9)/10 wt.%CNTs sample is reduced to0.408 W·m^(-1)·K^(-1),which is about 73%lower than that of the original *** the three parameters are coupled,the figure of merit of Ca_(3)Co_(4)O_(9)/3 wt.%CNTs sample reaches 0.052,which is 29%higher than that of the original *** shows that an appropriate amount of carbon nanotubes addition can reduce the thermal conductivity of Ca_(3)Co_(4)O_(9)ceramic samples and improve their thermoelectric properties.

With in the context of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (hereafter TCSOL),the teaching of"le"is a key and thought-provoking grammatical *** the view that the general explanations,often used in textbooks,are not easy for students to comprehend,after studying the relevant literature and drawing examples from specific textbooks,we make some suggestions regarding the teaching of"le".The innovation of this article is the proposal of a unified approach to the interpretation of"le"within the theory of"realization",the avoidance of the concepts of"complete"and"change",of"le+le=le"and of the idea that"le"indicates the"tone".Simultaneously,we propose the increase of the subjective communicative uses of"le",the distinction between the meanings of sentence patterns and word meanings,and the unification of related terms.
