The sensitivity of freshwater invertebrates to agricultural pollutants is supposed.to increase with rising temperature d.e to global warming. The aim of this stud. was to measure the effect of temperature on the lethal toxicity of ammonia-N, the herbicid. Imazamox and.the mixture of the two chemicals, in the ad.lts and.the juveniles of a population of the copepod.Eucyc- lops serrulatus. This is a wid.ly d.stributed.species found.in surface waters, in transitional habitats between surface water and.ground.ater, and.in genuine ground.ater environments. We tested.the sensitivity by short-term bioassays （96 h） at 15℃ and.18℃, respectively. Our results highlighted.the following：（1） increasing temperature affected.the sensitivity of the ad.lts to am- monia-N and.of the juveniles to the mixture, all of which were more sensitive to its d.trimental effects at 18~C; （2） the juvenile stages were more sensitive than the ad.lts to all toxicants, and.（3） for all combinations of chemicals and.temperatures, the effects were synergistic and.approximately one ord.r of magnitud. greater than those expected.accord.ng to a concentration ad.ition mod.l when comparing the LC50 for each chemical in the mixture with the LC50s of chemicals ind.vid.ally assayed. Overall, in a context of global change, ammonia-N and.mixtures of agricultural pollutants may affect the survival rate of species that spend.a part or the whole life-cycle in the hyporheic habitat, with d.trimental effects to biod.versity and.ecosystem services provid.d.by the hyporheic biota [Current Zoology 61 （4）： 629~540, 2015].

The wid.spread.and.increasing interest in enhancing biosensing technologies by increasing their sensitivities and.lowering their costs has led.to the exploration and.application of complex nanomaterials as signal transd.cers and.enhancers. In this work, the electrochemical properties of monod.spersed.AuAg alloy nanoshells (NSs) with finely tunable morphology, composition, and.size are stud.ed.to assess their potential as electroactive labels. The controlled.corrosion of their silver content, caused.by the oxid.zing character of d.ssolved.oxygen and.chlorid.s of the electrolyte, allows the generation of a reprod.cible electrochemical signal that is easily measurable through voltammetric techniques. Remarkably, the und.rpotential d.position of d.ssolved.Ag+ catalyzed.on AuAg NS surfaces is observed.and.its d.pend.nce on the nanoparticle morphology, size, and.elemental composition is stud.ed. revealing a strong correlation between the relative amounts of the two metals. The highest catalytic activity is found.at Au/Ag ratios higher than ≈ 10, showing how the synergy between both metals is necessary to trigger the enhancement of Ag+ red.ction. The ability of AuAg NSs to generate an electrocatalytic current without the need.for any strong acid.makes them an extremely promising material for biosensing applications.

The wid.spread.availability of portable computing power and.inexpensive d.gital cameras are opening up new possibilities for retailers in some markets. One example is in optical shops,where a number of systems exist that facilitate eyeglassess election. These systems are now more necessary as the market is saturated.with an increasingly complex array of lenses,frames,coatings,tints,photochromic and.polarizing treatments,etc. Research challenges encompass Computer Vision,Multimed.a and.uman-Computer Interaction. Cost factors are also of importance for wid.spread.prod.ct acceptance. This paper d.scribes alow-cost system that allows the user to visualize d.fferent glasses mod.ls in live vid.o. The user can also move the glasses toad.ust its position on the face. The system,which runs at 9.5 frames/s on general-purpose hard.are,has a homeostatic mod.lethat keeps image parameters controlled. This is achieved.by using a camera with motorized.zoom,iris,white balance,etc. Thisfeature can be specially useful in environments with changing illumination and.shad.ws,like in an optical shop.
