Comprehensive toxicity assessment of nanodiamond on Blaps polychresta: implications and novel findings

With the increasing development of nanomaterials, the use of nanodiamonds (NDs) has been broadly manifested in many applications. However, their high penetration into the ecosystem indubitably poses remarkable toxicological risks. This paper investigates the toxic effects of NDs on the darkling beetle, Blaps polychresta Forskal, 1775 (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae). Survival analysis was carried out by monitoring the beetles for 30 d after the injection of four different doses of NDs. A dose of 10.0 mg NDs/g body weight, causing less than 50% mortality effect, was assigned in the analysis of the different organs of studied beetles, including testis, ovary, and midgut. Structural and ultrastructural analyses were followed using light, TEM, and SEM microscopes. In addition, a variety of stress markers and enzyme activities were assessed using spectrophotometric methods. Furthermore, cell viability and DNA damage were evaluated using cytometry and comet assay, respectively. Compared to the control group, the NDs-treated group was exposed to various abnormalities within all the studied organs as follows. Significant disturbances in enzyme activities were accompanied by an apparent dysregulation in the antioxidant system. The flow cytometry results indicated a substantial decrease of viable cells along with a rise of apoptotic and necrotic cells. The comet assay demonstrated a highly increased level of DNA damage. Likewise, histological analyses accentuated the same findings showing remarkable deformities in the studied organs. Prominently, the research findings substantially contribute for the first time to evaluating the critical effects of NDs on B. polychresta, adopted as the bioindicator in this paper.

Durum wheat yield forecasting using machine learning

A reliable and accurate forecasting model for crop yields is crucial for effective decision-making in every agricultural *** learning approaches allow for building such predictive models,but the quality of predictions decreases if data is *** this work,we proposed data-augmentation for wheat yield forecasting in the presence of small data sets of two distinct Provinces in *** first increased the dimension of each data set by adding more features,and then we augmented the size of the data by merging the two data *** assess the effectiveness of data-augmentation approaches,we conducted three sets of experiments based on three data sets:the primary data sets,data sets with additional features and the augmented data sets obtained by merging,using five regression models(Support Vector Regression,Random Forest,Extreme Learning Machine,Artificial Neural Network,Deep Neural Network).To evaluate the models,we used cross-validation;the results showed an overall increase in performance with the augmented *** outperformed the other models for the first Province with a Root Mean Square Error(RMSE)of 0.04 q/ha and R_Squared(R^(2))of 0.96,whereas the Random Forest outperformed the other models for the second Province with RMSE of 0.05 q/ha.

Degradation of direct azo dye by Cucurbita pepo free and immobilized peroxidase

Enzymatic decolourization of the azo dye, Direct Yellow （DY 106） by Cucurbita pepo （courgette） peroxidase （CP） is a complex process, which is greatly affected by pH, temperature, enzyme activity and the concentrations of H202 and dye. Courgette peroxidase was extracted and its performance was evaluated by using the free-CP （FCP） and immobilized-CP （ICP） forms in the decolourization of DY106. Immobilization of peroxidase in calcium alginate beads was performed according to a strategy aiming to minimize enzyme leakage and keep its activity at a maximum value by optimizing sodium alginate content, enzyme loading and calcium chloride concentration. The initial conditions ~it which the highest DY106 decolourization yield was obtained were found at pH 2, temperature 20~C, H202 dose 1 mmol/L （FCP） and 100 mmol/L （ICP）. The highest decolourization rates were obtained for dye concentrations 50 mg/L （FCP） and 80 mg/L （ICP）. Under optimal conditions, the FCP was able to decolorize more than 87% of the dye within 2 min. While with ICP, the decolourization yield was 75% within 15 rain. The decolourization and removal of DY106 was proved by UV-Vis analysis. Fourier transform infrared （FF-IR） spectroscopy analysis was also performed on DY106 and enzymatic treatment precipitated byproduct.

Microstructure and texture analysis of YBCO thick film with peritectic growth on unoriented silver substrate

YBCO textured thick film was prepared by direct peritectic growth method. Microstructure of the film was characterized. Electron backscattered diffraction （EBSD） technique was applied to the film for quantitative texture analysis. The main difficulty in resolving the orientation of YBCO pseudo-cubic structure was investigated. Automated orientation mapping was performed on YBCO thick film. Local texture was presented in the form of orientation maps. Misorientation distribution and crystal growth characterization in the YBCO thick film were revealed. Large domains with well-aligned YBCO grains were formed. Each domain presented clear in-plane and out-plane textures.

Platinum(Pt) based drugs, such as cisplatin, are widely used as anti-cancer agents, but their severe adverse reactions and resistance of cancer patients have limited their board clinical use. For the last few decades, Pt(Ⅱ) compounds, Pt(Ⅳ) prodrugs as well as smart drug delivery systems have been developed to overcome these problems. However, most conventional strategies rely on the similar anti-cancer mechanism with cisplatin and consequently only achieve limited success. Recently, Pt nanocrystals/nanoclusters(Pt NCs), with a brand new anti-cancer mechanism, have shown a promising potential in targeted cancer therapy, especially in Pt resistance circumvention. This review is helpful to understand the research strategies of Pt drugs, particularly, the recent developments and medical applications of Pt NCs.

Digital Identification of Ecosystem Structure in the FIrtIna Valley of the Kakar Mountains in the Rize City of Turkey

Identifying the structure of protected mountain ecosystems is an important task for understanding conservation sustainability. The study area, the Firtina Valley, located in the Rize City on the Eastern Blacksea Coast, is one of the biological hotspots and a National Park of Turkey. In order to identify the structure of mountain ecosystems, we generated a GIS database for the main environmental parameters of the study area, including elevation,slope and aspect layers for topographic structure, 10year mean values of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI), data for vegetation structure, annual mean temperature and precipitation layers for climatic structure, main soil groups for soil structure and stream flow accumulation, stream flow length and stream order layers for hydrological *** identify the complex relations among environmental factors in the study area a data reduction method is applied with Principal Component Analysis(PCA). PCA is performed using data of 16 layers from Geographical Information Systems(GIS). PCA analysis reduced 16 dimensions into 5 dimensions containing 75% of the variation in all data. It is also revealed that the topographic structure, mainly altitude, dominates the ecosystems of the Firtina Valley, but it should be considered that the interactions of environmental factors in an ecosystem dynamics are very complex. The ecosystem structure is determined by the environmental factors direct or indirect effects on energy regulation of an ecosystem. Therefore the relationship between topographic elements and other abiotic-biotic elements in the Firtina Valley are important for environmental assessment and sustainability of a protected area, and these effects are explained in this study.

Strength properties of xanthan gum and guar gum treated kaolin at different water contents

Nowadays,using biopolymer as a ground improvement method has become very ***,since biopolymers are organic and degradable,their long-term effect is not fully *** this study,the effects of biopolymers on the mechanical behavior of kaolin clay were investigated through a comprehensive program of *** types of biopolymer,*** gum and guar gum were chosen to investigate the effect of biopolymer *** this purpose,specimens were prepared using standard Proctor energy at four different water contents(25%,30%35%and 40%)with 0.5%,1%,1.5%and 2%biopolymer *** specimens were cured for 1 d,7 d,28 d and 90 ***,some of the specimens were kept in the curing room for 3 years to observe the long-term effect of the *** the end of the curing periods,the specimens were subjected to unconfined compression test,and scanning electron microscopy(SEM)analysis was performed to observe the mechanism of strength *** results revealed that the unconfined compressive strength(UCS)of the specimens treated with biopolymers increased in all biopolymer inclusion levels and water contents up to a 90-d curing *** specimens containing xanthan gum,the maximum strength increase was observed at 25%water content and 2%xanthan gum with 90-d *** strength increased 5.23 times induced by xanthan gum addition when compared to the pure ***,the increase in strength reached 8.53 times in specimens treated with guar ***,increasing water content caused more ductile behavior,thus increasing the axial deformation.

Optoelectronic properties of SnO2 thin films sprayed at different deposition times

This article presents the elaboration of tin oxide （SnO2） thin films on glass substrates by using a home-made spray pyrolysis system. Effects of film thickness on the structural, optical, and electrical film properties are investigated. The films are characterized by several techniques such as x-ray diffraction （XRD）, atomic force microscopy （AFM）, ultraviolet- visible （UV-Vis） transmission, and four-probe point measurements, and the results suggest that the prepared films are uniform and well adherent to the substrates. X-ray diffraction （XRD） patterns show that SnO2 film is of polycrystal with cassiterite tetragonal crystal structure and a preferential orientation along the （110） plane. The calculated grain sizes are in a range from 32.93 nm to 56.88 nm. Optical transmittance spectra of the films show that their high transparency average transmittances are greater than 65% in the visible region. The optical gaps of SnO2 thin films are found to be in a range of 3.64 eV-3.94 eV. Figures of merit for SnO2 thin films reveal that their maximum value is about 1.15 x 10-4 Ω-1 at λ = 550 nm. Moreover, the measured electrical resistivity at room temperature is on the order of 10^-2 Ω.cm.

Deep learning models for automatic identification of plant-parasitic nematode

Plant-parasitic nematodes cause various diseases that can be fatal to the infected *** causes losses to the agricultural industry,such as crop failure and poor crop *** an accurate nematode classification system is vital for pest identification and *** learning classification techniques can help speed up Nematode identification as it can perform tasks directly from *** the present study,four state-of-the-art deep learning models(ResNet101v2,CoAtNet-0,Effi-cientNetV2B0,and EfficientNetV2M)were evaluated in plantparasitic nematode classification from microscopic *** models were trained using a combination of three different optimizers(Adam,SGD,dan RMSProp)and several data augmentation with image transformations,such as image flip,blurring,noise addition,brightness,and contrast *** performance of the trained models was *** test accuracy,EfficientNetV2B0 and EfficientNetV2M using RMSProp and brightness augmentation give the best result of 97.94%However,the overall performance of EfficientNetV2M was superior,with 98.66%mean class accuracy,97.99%F1 score,98.26%average precision,and 97.94%average recall.
