Mineral inclusions of zircon and UHP metamorphic evidence from paragneiss and orthogneiss of pre-pilot drill-hole CCSD-PP2 in north Jiangsu Province,China

Coesite inclusions, together with omphacite, jadeite, garnet and phengite inclusions, were identified in zircons separates from almost all gneissic core samples of pre-pilot drillhole CCSD-PP2 by the Laser Raman spectros-copy and the cathodoluminescence method. These data indicate that gneissic rocks consisting of paragneisses and or-thogneisses ubiquitously experienced UHP metamorphism. This research may be of great significance for an in-depth study of the subduction-exhumation mechanism of the Sulu UHP metamorphic belt and selecting the drilling site for the Chinese Continental Scientific Drilling Project.

In order to enhance berry coloration of bright-red grape cultivars, the effects of abscisic acid (ABA) treatment on the quantity and composition of anthocyanins as well as the expression of genes related to flavonoid biosynthesis in the berry were examined. Exogenous ABA treatment increased anthocyanin content, especially petunidin- and malvidin-type anthocyanins. Quantitative real-time PCR analysis revealed that ABA treatment around véraison resulted in the upregulation of genes encoding enzymes responsible for both general flavonoid and anthocyanin biosynthesis. On the other hand, the gene expressions of enzymes involved in proanthocyanidin synthesis were drastically decreased at véraison and remained extremely low even with ABA treatment. Thus, increases in the total amount and composition ratios of petunidin- and malvidin-type anthocyanins were mainly caused by ABA-induced upregulation of uridine diphosphate glucose flavonoid glucosyl transferase, glutathione S-transferase 4, O-methyl transferase and flavonoid 3’, 5’ hydroxylase expression, resulting in the deep coloration of berry of skin.

Convergence Rate to Stationary Solutions for Boltzmann Equation with External Force

For the Boltzmann equation with an external force in the form of the gradient of a potential function in space variable, the stability of its stationary solutions as local Maxwellians was studied by S. Ukai et al. （2005） through the energy method. Based on this stability analysis and some techniques on analyzing the convergence rates to stationary solutions for the compressible Navier-Stokes equations, in this paper, we study the convergence rate to the above stationary solutions for the Boltzmann equation which is a fundamental equation in statistical physics for non-equilibrium rarefied gas. By combining the dissipation from the viscosity and heat conductivity on the fluid components and the dissipation on the non-fluid component through the celebrated H-theorem, a convergence rate of the same order as the one for the compressible Navier-Stokes is obtained by constructing some energy functionals.

Gastric cancer with extensive lymph node metastasis(ELM) is usually considered unresectable and is associated with poor outcomes. Cases with clinical enlargement of the para-aortic lymph nodes and/or bulky lymph node enlargement around the celiac artery and its branches are generally dealt with as ELM. A standard treatment for gastric cancer with ELM has yet to be determined. Two phase Ⅱ studies of neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by surgery showed that neoadjuvant chemotherapy with S-1 plus cisplatin followed by surgical resection with extended lymph node dissection could represent a treatment option for gastric cancer with ELM. However,many clinical questions remain unresolved,including the criteria for diagnosing ELM,optimal regime,number of courses and extent of lymph node dissection.

Aortic stenosis(AS) is a disease that progresses slowly for years without symptoms, so patients need to be carefully managed with appropriate follow up and referred for aortic valve replacement in a timely manner. Development of symptoms is a clear indication for aortic valve intervention in patients with severe AS. The decision for early surgery in patients with asymptomatic severe AS is more complex. In this review, we discuss how to identify high-risk patients with asymptomatic severe AS who may benefit from early surgery.

AIM: To compare the clinical efficacy of the secondgeneration H2 RA lafutidine with that of lansoprazole in Japanese patients with mild gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD). METHODS: Patients with symptoms of GERD and a diagnosis of grade A reflux esophagitis(according to the Los Angeles classification) were randomized to receive lafutidine(10 mg, twice daily) or lansoprazole(30 mg, once daily) for an initial 8 wk, followed by maintenance treatment comprising half-doses of the assigned drug for 24 wk. The primary endpoint was the frequency and severity of heartburn during initial and maintenance treatment. The secondary endpoints were the sum score of questions 2 and 3 in the Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale(GSRS), and the satisfaction ***: Between April 2012 and March 2013, a total of 53 patients were enrolled, of whom 24 and 29 received lafutidine and lansoprazole, respectively. After 8 wk, the frequency and severity of heartburn was significantly reduced in both groups. However, lafutidine was significantly inferior to lansoprazole with regard to the severity of heartburn during initial and maintenance treatment(P = 0.016). The sum score of questions 2 and 3 in the GSRS, and satisfaction scores were also significantly worse in the lafutidine group than the lansoprazole group(P = 0.0068 and P = 0.0048, respectively).CONCLUSION: The clinical efficacy of lafutidine was inferior to that of lansoprazole, even in Japanese patients with mild GERD.
