Influence of structural depth of laser-patterned steel surfaces on the solid lubricity of carbon nanoparticle coatings

Carbon nanoparticle coatings on laser-patterned stainless-steel surfaces present a solid lubrication system where the pattern's recessions act as lubricant-retaining *** study investigates the influence of the structural depth of line patterns coated with multi-walled carbon nanotubes(CNTs)and carbon onions(COs)on their respective potential to reduce friction and *** laser interference patterning(DLIP)with a pulse duration of 12 ps is used to create line patterns with three different structural depths at a periodicity of 3.5μm on AISI 304 steel ***,electrophoretic deposition(EPD)is applied to form homogeneous carbon nanoparticle coatings on the patterned *** ball-on-disc experiments are conducted on the as-described surfaces with an alumina counter body at a load of 100 *** results show that the shallower the coated structure,the lower its coefficient of friction(COF),regardless of the particle ***,with a minimum of just below 0.20,CNTs reach lower COF values than COs over most of the testing *** resulting wear tracks are characterized by scanning electron microscopy,transmission electron microscopy,and energy-dispersive X-ray *** friction testing,the CNTs remain in contact,and the immediate proximity,whereas the CO coating is largely *** of structural depth,no oxidation occurs on CNT-coated surfaces,whereas minor oxidation is detected on CO-coated wear tracks.

Enhancement in photovoltaic properties of Nd:SnS films prepared by low-cost NSP method

The inner transition metal(ITm) neodymium(Nd)-doped tin sulfide(Nd:SnS) thin films with various Nd concentrations were coated by nebulizer spray pyrolysis(NSP) technique at 350℃. All the coated films were analyzed for their structural, optical and photoelectrical properties. X-ray diffractometer(XRD) study showed(111) direction as the highly preferred orientation with orthorhombic crystal structure for all the films. The intensity of the peaks was found to increase until 5 at% Nd doping and then reduced for higher(7 at% Nd) doping concentration. Atomic force microscopic(AFm) images of the films proclaimed an increase in the surface and line roughness of the films by increasing Nd *** analysis on the films showed a variation in energy gap from 2.05 to 1.69 eV when the doping concentration increased from 0 at% to 7 at%. At 5 at% Nd doping, the photoluminescence(PL) spectra displayed a single strong emission peak at 723.1 nm with enhanced intensity corresponding to near-band-edge emission. All the SnS thin films exhibited p-type behavior with the lowest resistivity of ~ 4.311 Ω·cm and high carrier concentrations of ~ 1.441 × 10^(17)cm^(-3) for 5 at% Nd doping level as observed from Hall effect studies. Furthermore, fluorinedoped tin oxide(FTO)/n-CdS/p-Nd:SnS hetero-junction solar cells were prepared and the current–voltage curve in dark and light condition was obtained for the device. An efficiency of 0.135% was observed for the solar cell fabricated with 5 at% Nd-doped SnS thin film.

Highly luminescent europium and terbium complexes based on succinimide and N-hydroxysuccinimide

The preparation of two highly luminescent europium（Ill） and terbium（Ill） complexes with succinimide （SI） and N-hydroxysuccinimide （NHSI） were reported, which were further investigated through elemental chemical analysis, thermal analysis, FT-IR, powder X-ray diffraction, SEm and fluorescence spectroscopy. Data collected through these analysis revealed the formation of the Eu（III） and Th（III） complexes with the above mentioned ligands at a metal to ligand （m：L） molar ratio of 1：3. Interesting conclusions regarding the effi- cient sensitization through the coordination site of the lanthanide luminescent centers were retained from the photoluminescent spectra inves- tigation. Strong luminescence emission was observed in case of Eu（III）-SI and Tb（III）-NHSI complexes while the corresponding Eu（III）-NHSI and Tb（III）-SI complexes exhibited no photo luminescent properties. Newly obtained luminescent lanthanide complexes may be of particular interest for various applications in optoelectronics.

Parallel arrays of Schottky barrier nanowire field effect transistors： Nanoscopic effects for macroscopic current output

We present novel Schottky barrier field effect transistors consisting of a parallel array of bottom-up grown silicon nanowires that are able to deliver high current outputs. Axial silicidation of the nanowires is used to create defined Schottky junctions leading to on/off current ratios of up to 106. The device concept leverages the unique transport properties of nanoscale junctions to boost device performance for macroscopic applications. Using parallel arrays, on-currents of over 500 gA at a source-drain voltage of 0.5 V can be achieved. The transconductance is thus increased significantly while maintaining the transfer characteristics of single nanowire devices. By incorporating several hundred nanowires into the parallel arra36 the yield of functioning transistors is dramatically increased and device- to-device variability is reduced compared to single devices. This new nanowire- based platform provides sufficient current output to be employed as a transducer for biosensors or a driving stage for organic light-emitting diodes （LEDs）, while the bottom-up nature of the fabrication procedure means it can provide building blocks for novel printable electronic devices.

Ionic effects on the transport characteristics of nanowire-based FETs in a liquid environment

For the development of ultra-sensitive electrical bio/chemical sensors based on nanowire field effect transistors （FETs）, the influence of the ions in the solution on the electron transport has to be understood. For this purpose we establish a simulation platform for nanowire FETs in the liquid environment by implementing the modified Poisson-Boltzmann model into Landauer transport theory. We investigate the changes of the electric potential and the transport characteristics due to the ions. The reduction of sensitivity of the sensors due to the screening effect from the electrolyte could be successfully reproduced. We also fabricated silicon nanowire Schottky-barrier FETs and our model could capture the observed reduction of the current with increasing ionic concentration. This shows that our simulation platform can be used to interpret ongoing experiments, to design nanowire FETs, and it also gives insight into controversial issues such as whether ions in the buffer solution affect the transport characteristics or not.

Sclerotherapy as a primary or salvage procedure for aneurysmal bone cysts:A single-center experience
