Multidisciplinary approach to understand the pathogenesis of gastric cancer

Gastric carcinoma remains a common disease worldwide with a dismal prognosis. Therefore, it represents a very important health problem. It occurs with a high incidence in Asia and is one of the leading causes of cancer death in the world. Although the incidence and mortality of gastric carcinoma are decreasing in many countries,gastric cancer still represents the second most frequent malignancies in the world and the fourth in Europe. The 5-year survival rate of gastric carcinoma is low. The etiology and pathogenesis are not yet fully known. The study of gastric cancer is important in clinical medicine as well as in public health. Over the past 15 years,integrated research in molecular pathology has clarified the details of genetic and epigenetic abnormalities of cancer-related genes in the course of the development and progression of gastric cancer. Gastric cancer, as all cancers, is the end result of the interplay of many risk factors as well as protective factors. Although epidemiological evidence indicates that environmental factors play a major role in gastric carcinogenesis, the role of immunological, genetic, and immunogenetic factors are thought to contribute to the pathogenesis of gastric carcinoma. Among the environmental factors,diet and Helicobacter pylori are more amenable to intervention aimed at the prevention of gastric *** aim of the present paper is to review and include the most recent published evidence to demonstrate that only a multidisciplinary approach will lead to the advancement of the pathogenesis and prevention of gastric cancer. On the immunogenetic research it is clear that evidence is accumulating to suggest that a genetic profile favoring the proinflammatory response increases the risk of gastric carcinoma.

Colorectal peritoneal metastases:Optimal management review

The peritoneum is a common site of dissemination for colorrectal cancer, with a poorer prognosis than other sites of metastases. In the last two decades, it has been considered as a locoregional disease progression and treated as such with curative intention treatments. Cytoreductive surgery(CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy(HIpeC) is the actual reference treatment for these patients as better survival results have been reached as compared to systemic chemotherapy alone, but its therapeutic efficacy is still under debate. Actual guidelines recommend that the management of colorectal cancer with peritoneal metastases should be led by a multidisciplinary team carried out in experienced centers and consider CRS + HIpeC for selected patients. Accumulative evidence in the last three years suggests that this is a curative treatment that may improve patients disease-free survival, decrease the risk of recurrence, and does not increase the risk of treatment-related mortality. In this review we aim to gather the latest results from referral centers and opinions from experts about the effectiveness and feasibility of CRS + HIpeC for treating peritoneal disease from colorectal malignancies.

This paper highlights the crucial role of Indonesia’s GnSS receiver network in advancing Equatorial Plasma Bubble(EPB)studies in Southeast and East Asia,as ionospheric irregularities within EPB can disrupt GnSS signals and degrade positioning *** by the Indonesian Geospatial Information Agency(BIG),the Indonesia Continuously Operating Reference Station(Ina-CORS)network comprises over 300 GnSS receivers spanning equatorial to southern low-latitude ***-CORS is uniquely situated to monitor EPB generation,zonal drift,and dissipation across Southeast *** provide a practical tool for EPB research,by sharing two-dimensional rate of Total Electron Content(TEC)change index(ROTI)derived from this *** generate ROTI maps with a 10-minute resolution,and samples from May 2024 are publicly available for further scientific *** preliminary findings from the ROTI maps of Ina-CORS are ***,the Ina-CORS ROTI maps reveal that the irregularities within a broader EPB structure persist longer,increasing the potential for these irregularities to migrate farther ***,we demonstrate that combined ROTI maps from Ina-CORS and GnSS receivers in East Asia and Australia can be used to monitor the development of ionospheric irregularities in Southeast and East *** have demonstrated the combined ROTI maps to capture the development of ionospheric irregularities in the Southeast/East Asian sector during the G5 Geomagnetic Storm on May 11,*** observed simultaneous ionospheric irregularities in Japan and Australia,respectively propagating northwestward and southwestward,before midnight,whereas Southeast Asia’s equatorial and low-latitude regions exhibited irregularities *** sharing ROTI maps from Indonesia and integrating them with regional GnSS networks,researchers can conduct comprehensive EPB studies,enhancing the understanding of EPB behavior across Southeast and East Asia and contributing significantly to ionosphe

Contemporaneous assembly of Western Gondwana and final Rodinia break-up:Implications for the supercontinent cycle

Sailboat navigation control system based on spiking neural networks

In this paper,we presented the development of a navigation control system for a sailboat based on spiking neural networks(Snn).Our inspiration for this choice of network lies in their potential to achieve fast and low-energy computing on specialized *** train our system,we use the modulated spike time-dependent plasticity reinforcement learning rule and a simulation environment based on the BindsnET library and USVSim *** objective was to develop a spiking neural network-based control systems that can learn policies allowing sailboats to navigate between two points by following a straight line or performing tacking and gybing strategies,depending on the sailing scenario *** presented the mathematical definition of the problem,the operation scheme of the simulation environment,the spiking neural network controllers,and the control strategy *** a result,we obtained 425 Snn-based controllers that completed the proposed navigation task,indicating that the simulation environment and the implemented control strategy work ***,we compare the behavior of our best controller with other algorithms and present some possible strategies to improve its performance.

Background:Species turnover(β-diversity)along elevational gradients is one of the most important concepts in plant ***,there is a lack of consensus about the main driving mechanisms of treeβ-diversity at local scales in very diverse ecosystems(e.g.,Andean mountains),as well as how the sampling effect can alterβ-diversity ***,it has been hypothesized that patterns of change inβ-diversity at local scales along elevational gradients are driven by sampling effects stemming from differences in the size of the species pool rather than by underlying community assembly ***,we aim to evaluate the relative extent to which sampling effects,such as species pool size,grain size,and tree size cut-off,determine species sorting,and thus,the variability ofβ-diversity at local scales along elevational gradients in the northwest of ***:Using 151-ha permanent plots spread out along a 3000m elevational gradient,we used standardizedβ-deviation to assess the extent to which either sampling effects or the community assembly mechanisms determine the changes in species composition at local ***β-deviation was measured as the difference between the observed and nullβ-diversity divided by the standard deviation of the nullβ-*** found that the magnitude of change in localβ-deviation along the elevational gradient was significant and dependent on the employed spatial grain size and tree size ***,β-deviation increased with elevation in all sampling designs,which suggests that underlying community assembly mechanisms play a key role in shaping localβ-diversity along the elevational ***:Our findings suggest that grain size enlargement and the inclusion of trees with small diameters will improve our ability to quantify the extent to which the community assembly mechanisms shape patterns ofβ-diversity along elevational ***,we emphasize the scale-dependent nature of the assessment o
