Most plants are polyploid due to whole-genome duplications （WGD） and can thus have duplicated genes. Following a WGD, paralogs are often fractionated （lost） and few duplicate pairs remain. little attention has been paid to the role of DNA methylation in the functional divergence of paralogous genes. Using high- resolution methylation maps of accessions of domesticated and wild soybean, we show that in soybean, a recent paleopolyploid with many paralogs, DNA methylation likely contributed to the elimination of ge- netic redundancy of polyploidy-derived gene paralogs. Transcriptionally silenced paralogs exhibit partic- ular genomic features as they are often associated with proximal transposable elements （TEs） and are pref- erentially located in pericentromeres, likely due to gene movement during evolution. Additionally, we provide evidence that gene methylation associated with proximal TEs is implicated in the divergence of expression profiles between orthologous genes of wild and domesticated soybean, and within populations.

The increasingly serious problem of acid rain is leading to increased potassium （K） loss from soils, and in our field investigation, we found that even congenerically relative Mosla species show different tolerance to K-deficiency. A hydroponic study was conducted on the growth of two Mosla species and their morphological, physiological and stoichiometric traits in response to limited （0.35 mmol K/l）, normal （3.25 mmol K/l） and excessive （6.50 mmol K/l） K concentrations. Mosla hangchowensis is an endangered plant, whereas Mosla dianthera a widespread weed. In the case of M. hangchowensis, in comparison with normal K concentration, K-limitation induced a significant reduction in net photosynthetic rate （Pn）, soluble protein content, and superoxide dismutase （SOD） actix, ity, but an increase in malondialdehyde （MDA） concentration. However, leaf mass ratio （lMR） and root mass ratio （RMR） were changed little by K-limitation. In contrast, for M. dianthera, K-limitation had little effect on Pn, soluble protein content, SOD activity, and MDA concentration, but increased lMR and RMR. Critical values of N （nitrogen）：K and K：P （phosphorus） ratios in the shoots indicated that limitation in acquiring K occurred under K-limited conditions for M. hangchowensis but not for M. dianthera. We found that low K content in natural habitats was a restrictive factor in the growth and distribution of M.. hangchowensis, and soil K-deficiency caused by acid rain worsened the situation of M. hangchowensis, while M. dianthera could well acclimate to the increasing K-deficiency. We suggest that controlling the acid rain and applying K fertilizers may be an effective way to rescue the endangered M. hangchowensis.

The epididymis is divided into caput, corpus and cauda regions, organized into intraregional segments separated by connective tissue septa （CTS）. In the adult rat and mouse these segments are highly differentiated. Regulation of these segments is by endocrine, lumicrine and paracrine factors, the relative importance of which remains under investigation. Here, the ability of the CTS to limit signaling in the interstitial compartment is reviewed as is the effect of 15 days of unilateral efferent duct ligation （EDl） on ipsilateral segmental transcriptional profiles. Inter-segmental microperifusions of epidermal growth factor （EGF）, vascular endothelial growth factor （VEGFA） and fibroblast growth factor 2 （FGF2） increased phosphorylation of mitogen activated protein kinase （MAPK） in segments 1 and 2 of the rat epididymis and the effects of all factors were limited by the CTS separating the segments. Microan＇ay analysis of segmental gene expression determined the effect of 15 days of unilateral EDl on the transcriptome-wide gene expression of rat segments 1-4. Over 11 000 genes were expressed in each of the four segments and over 2 000 transcripts in segment 1 responded to deprivation of testicular lumicrine factors. Segments 1 and 2 of control tissues were the most transcriptionally different and EDl had its greatest effects there. In the absence of lumicrine factors, all four segments regressed to a transcriptionally undifferentiated state, consistent with the less differentiated histology. Deprivation of lumicrine factors could stimulate an individual gene＇s expression in some segments yet suppress it in others. Such results reveal a higher complexity of the regulation of rat epididymal segments than that is generally appreciated. （Asian J Androl 2007 July; 9： 565-573）

This paper aims to demonstrate the relationships between ENSO and rice production of Jiangxi province in order to identify the reason that ENSO might have little effect on Chinese rice production. Using a data set with measures of Jiangxi＇s climate and rice production, we find the reason that during 1985 and 2004 ENSO＇s well correlated with rainfall did not promote Chinese rice production. First, the largest effects of ENSO mostly occur in the months when there is no rice in the field. Second, there is almost no temperature effect. Finally, the monthly distribution of rainfall is almost the same in ENSO and neutral years because the largest effects are during months when there is the least rain. In addition, due to the high irrigation share and reliable and effective irrigation facilities of cultivated land, China＇s rice production is less climate-sensitive.

This contribution summarizes key research advances on tropical cyclone(TC) intensity change from 2014-2018 from the Ninth International Workshop on Tropical Cyclones(IWTC-9). Research advances on intensity change have occurred on many fronts, including improved understanding of the role of vertical wind shear(VWS) and its impact on convection, surface fluxes, ocean eddies, dry/dusty air intrusions, eyewall replacement cycles(ERCs), spiral rainband dynamics, eyewall instability and inner-core mixing, and the mechanisms by which TCs intensify. This summary highlights a number of these important advances. Additionally, some new and emerging topics on TC intensity change have recently been elucidated: the important role of vortex structure on the subsequent intensification rate, the maximum potential intensification rate(MPIR), and the role of upper level outflow on TC intensity change.

Hepatitis C virus cures after direct acting antiviral-related drug-induced liver injury: Case report

The United States Food and Drug Administration recently warned that the direct acting antiviral(DAA) combination hepatitis C virus(HCV) treatment of Paritaprevir, Ombitasvir, Dasabuvir, Ritonavir, and Ribavirin(PODr + R) can cause severe liver injury in patients with advanced liver disease. Drug induced liver injury was observed in a small number of patients with decompensated cirrhosis treated with other DAAs, but has not been reported in patients with compensated cirrhosis. We report a case of a 74-year-old woman with chronic HCV and Child-Pugh class A cirrhosis(compensated cirrhosis) treated with PODr + R. The patient presented on day 14 of PODr + R therapy with jaundice and new-onset ascites. Her total bilirubin level increased to 23 mg/dl and international normalized ratio rose to 1.65, while aminotransferase levels remained relatively stable. Hepatitis C treatment was discontinued on day 24 and she gradually recovered. Follow-up testing showed that she achieved a sustained virologic response. In conclusion, hepatic decompensation developed within two weeks of starting treatment withPODr + R in a patient with Child-Pugh class A cirrhosis and was characterized by jaundice and ascites with stable aminotransferase levels. Careful monitoring is warranted in patients with HCV-related cirrhosis treated with PODr + R.

降低血型抗原的异体免疫水平对于慢性输血病人有很重要的临床意义.利用甲氧基聚乙二醇修饰红细胞的策略,可以免疫修饰血型抗原以降低红细胞的异体免疫水平.本研究显示,抗体识别非ABO的水平随甲氧基聚乙二醇的分子大小和浓度的升高而显著下降,分子量大的多聚体的免疫保护作用比分子量小的显著.同时,动物实验表明,甲氧基聚乙二醇修饰的异种红细胞(羊红细胞)以及同种不同品系(C57Bl/6)或自体(Balb/c)红细胞的体内免疫原性均明显降低.与对照相比,小鼠接受甲氧基聚乙二醇修饰的绵羊血,发现抗绵羊红细胞的抗体产生降低了90%.与对照相比,两次输入甲氧基聚乙二醇修饰的绵羊血的小鼠,抗绵羊血抗体产生降低了80%.尤为重要的是,甲氧基聚乙二醇修饰的自体血细胞没有诱导新抗原的产生,也没有IgG或IgM应答.以上结果表明,聚合物对红细胞的免疫修饰可以安全有效地降低异体免疫的水平,具有潜在的输血医学临床应用价值.
