The results on high power injection with the ueutral bean, injection （NBI） system for the Large Helical Device （LHD） are reported. The system consists of three beam-lines with two hydrogen negative ion （H^- ion） sources installed in each beam-line. In order to improve the injection power, a new beam accelerator with a multi-slot grounded grid （MSGG） has been developed and applied to one beam-line. Using the accelerator, a maximum power of 5.7 MW was achieved in 2003 and 2004, and the maximum energy of 189 keV was reached. The power and energy exceeded the design values of the individual beam-line for LHD. The other beam-lines also increased their injection power up to about 4 MW, and the total injection power of 13.1 MW was achieved with three beam-llnes in 2003. Although the accelerator had an advantage in high power beam injection, extracted beams expand in the short side direction of the ground-grid slot. The disadvantage has been resolved by modifying the aperture shapes of the steering grid.

In an analytical study of microbial broths,the actinomycete strain kitasatospora sp.P07101 was found to produce three new congeners,which were designated hazimycins B(1),C(2),and D(3),together with the previously reported hazimycin(renamed hazimycin A(4)).The structures of these hazimycins were examined using various spectroscopic methods including nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR),and the results revealed that 1–3 were analogues of hazimycin with the replacement of one of the two isonitrile groups in 4 by an NH-formyl group in 1,the two isonitrile groups and an amide group by two NH-formyl groups and a nitrile group in 2,and the two isonitrile groups and two amide groups by two NH-formyl groups and two nitrile groups in *** hazimycin A exhibited moderate antimicrobial activities against Gram-positive bacteria and Candida *** results indicated that the presence of two isonitrile groups in the hazimycin structure is essential for antimicrobial activity.

In this paper, we consider the following problem about the James constant： When does the equality J（X＊） = J（X） hold for a Banach space X ？ It is known that the James constant of a Banach space does not coincide with that of its dual space in general. In fact, we already have counterexamples of two-dimensional normed spaces that are equipped with either symmetric or absolute norms. However,we show that if the norm on a two-dimensional space X is both symmetric and absolute, then the equality J（X＊） = J（X） holds. This provides a global answer to the problem in the two-dimensional case.

The current study proposes a novel framework for the numerical model for estimating the temporal scour considering unsteady sediment inflow and the sediment sorting process. The framework was applied to local scour upstream of a slit weir. The scour model is based on an ordinary nonlinear differential equation derived from sediment continuity and scour rate equations. A one-dimensional(1-D)Boussinesq-type model coupled with nonequilibrium sediment transport was incorporated in the scour model to consider unsteady sediment inflow. In addition, a mixing layer approach was incorporated to determine temporal variations in particle size in the scour hole. The proposed framework was validated using scour experiments conducted under conditions that include non-uniform sediment, live-bed scour,and unsteady flow rate. The simulation results showed satisfactory agreement with experimental results for the scour upstream of a slit weir. The proposed model appropriately explained the hysteresis process for flow unsteadiness, refilling process for live-bed scour, and armoring process for non-uniform sediments. In addition, the model framework proposed in the current study is applicable to local scour around other hydraulic structures(e.g., bridge piers) upon establishing the scour rate equation. Therefore, the current study provides a novel approach for modeling temporal scour that is required to consider unsteady sediment inflow and sediment sorting.

Magnetic sensorless sensing and control experiments with the plasma horizontal position have been carried out in the superconducting tokamak HT-7. The sensing is made to focus on the ripple frequency component of the power supply with thyristor and directly from them without time integration. There is no drift problem with the integrator of wagnetic sensors. Two kinds of control experiments have been carried out： to keep the position constant and swing the position in a triangular waveform, And magnetic sensorless sensing of plasma shape is discussed.

Cockcrofi-Latham fracture criterion was applied to predict the fracture of high strength steels. A Marciniak-type biaxial stretching test of the four classes of high strength steels was carried out to measure the material damage limit of Cockcrofi-Latham fracture criterion. Furthermore, in order to improve the simulation accuracy, the local anisotropic parameters depending on the plastic strain （strain dependent model of anisotropy ） were measured by digital image correlation method and incorporated into Hill＇ s anisotropic yield condition by authors. To confirm the validity of Cockcrofi-Latham fracture criterion, the uniaxial tensile tests based on JIS No. 5 tensile specimen were performed. The force-displacement history and fracture happening strokes were predicted with high accuracy. Then, Cockcrofi-Latham fracture criterion was applied to predict the failure of four types of spot welded joints. To simulate the local bending and warping deformations around the heataffected zone, the discrete kirchhoff triangle element was adapted. FEM results for four classes of high strength steels and four types of spot welded joints had a good correlation with experimental ones.

AIM: To investigate whether intra-procedural diffusion- weighted magnetic resonance imaging can predict response of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) during trans- catheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE). METHODS: Sixteen patients (15 male), aged 59 ±11 years (range: 42-81 years) underwent a total of 21 separate treatments for unresectable HCC in a hybrid magnetic resonance/interventional radiology suite. Ana- tomical imaging and diffusion-weighted imaging (b = 0, 500 s/mm2) were performed on a 1.5-T unit. Tumor enhancement and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC, mm2/s) values were assessed immediately before and at 1 and 3 mo after TACE. We calculated the percent change (PC) in ADC values at all time points. We compared follow-up ADC values to baseline values using a paired t test (α = 0.05). RESULTS: The intra-procedural sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values (%) for detecting a complete or partial 1-mo tumor response using ADC PC thresholds of ±5%, ±10%, and ±15% were 77, 67, 91, and 40; 54, 67, 88, and 25; and 46, 100, 100, and 30, respectively. There was no clear predictive value for the 3-mo follow-up. Compared to baseline, the immediate post-procedure and 1-mo mean ADC values both increased; the latter obtaining statistical significance (1.48 ± 0.29 mm2/s vs 1.65 ± 0.35 × 10-3 mm2/s, P 15% predicted 1-mo anatomical HCC response with the greatest accuracy, and can provide valuable feedback at the time of TACE.

Mineralogical and Geochemical Constraints on Arsenic Mobility in a Philippine Geothermal Field

Arsenic is usually associated with sulphide minerals formed in the geothermal environment. However, sulphide minerals are prone to dissolution after contact with meteoric water under surface oxidizing conditions. Secondary precipitates that form from the dissolution of the primary sulfides exert a greater influence on arsenic mobility in the geothermal environment. Fe-hydroxides have very good affinity with dissolved arsenate and are stable under most surface oxidizing conditions. Both amorphous silica directly precipitated from geothermal fluids and possibly a kaolinite alteration can host a small significant amount of arsenic. These silicates are also more stable under a wide range ofpH and redox conditions.
