Pure and Cadmium (Cd) doped Cerium oxide nanoparticles (CeNPs) have been synthesised by the simple chemical co-precipitation technique. Cadmium ions of concentrations 1, 3 and 5 mol% were doped to investigate their influence on the structural and optical properties of CeO2. The synthesised samples have been subjected to X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The XRD and Raman patterns have witnessed the cubic structure of the cerium oxide nanoparticles. The average particle size of CeO2 was found to be around 10 nm. SEM image has also ascertained that the grain size of pure CeO2 appeared is bigger than that of the Cd-doped, which intern indicates the grain growth upon doping. Besides, the antibacterial activity of the cadmium doped cerium oxide nanoparticles against some human pathogens revealed that they have exhibited the maximum zone of inhibition against gram-positive bacteria than the gram-negative species. Further, the cytotoxic effect of Cd-doped CeO2 sample is examined in cultured (MCF-7, A549 and Hep-2) cell.

Nanocrystalline SnO2 and CuO doped with SnO2 were prepared by the co-precipitation method and characterized for different physiochemical properties and microbiological activity. The composition and morphological formation were characterized by XRD, HRTEM, Raman, FTIR, and UV-vis spectroscopy. The Powder X-ray analysis reveals that Sn4+ ions have substituted the Cu2+ ions without changing the monoclinic structure of SnO2 but the average particle size of the SnO2 and CuO doped SnO2 samples from 11 and 5 nm respectively. However, it exhibits an inhibiting strong bacterial growth against tested bacterial strains.

Dear Editor,Atovaquone(ATO),a mitochondrial inhibitor,has anti-cancer effects[1].Based on ATO,we developed mitochondria-targeted atovaquone(Mito-ATO)that had even stronger anti-tumor efficacy than ATO[2].We syn-thesized Mito-ATO by attaching the bulky triphenylphos-phonium(TPP)group to ATO via a ten-carbon alkyl chain(Supplementary file of methods;Supplementary Figure S1).

Objective:To assess the protective effects of lycopene on electrocardiographic,hemodynamic, biochemical and apoptotic changes in isoproterenol induced myocardial ***: Myocardial infarction was induced in rats by subcutaneous injection of isoproterenol(200 mg/kg) for two consecutive days at an interval of 24 *** were treated with lycopene(10 mg/kg/day, p.o.) for a period of 30 days and isoproterenol(ISO) was injected on the 29th and 30th *** the end of experiment *** the 31st day electrocardiographic,hemodynamic,biochemical and apoptotic changes were monitored from control and experimental ***:ISO injected ruts showed a significant alteration in electrocardiograph pattern and hemodynamic changes(i.e. systolic,diastolic and mean arterial pressure).It also showed significant increase in C-reactive protein,myeloperoxidase,nitrite levels and Caspase-3 protease *** addition,it also exhibited alteration in the levels of electrolytes(Na^+,K^+ and Ca^(2+),vitamin E,uric acid and serum *** electrophoresis of ISO injected rats showed increase in DNA *** tetrazolium chloride staining of the heart section shows increase area of infarction in ISO injected ***-co-treatment with lycopene significantly prevented the ISO induced ullerution in ECC, haemodynamic,biochemical and apoptotic ***:The present result shows that treatment of lycopene in ISO injected rats significantly attenuates induced myocardial infarction.

Objective:To determine the prevalence and antibiotic resistance of Escherichia coli(E. coli),in seafood obtained from Cuddalore and Parangipettai fish landing ***,to identify the susceptibility of *** against predominant seaweeds red alga Kappaphycus alvarezii(***) and brown alga Padina boergessenii(***) extracts as sulfated polysaccharides and polyphenols ***:A total of 48 samples(Two stations Cuddalore and Parangipettai,Tamil Nadu,India).Sampling area are fish landing centre where fishes caught from sea and estuary,seafood processing plants(packing and ice packed fishes) and local fish markets(fish samples).After isolation totally 80 strains were analyzed for its antimicrobial resistance and sensitivity against commercially 10 *** ampicillin resistant *** CE21 was identified through molecular techniques as I6S rDNA sequencing. Biochars produced from coconut palm biomass residues can aid regenerative agriculture by improving soil properties and plant yield in humid tropics

Lignin-rich recalcitrant biomass residues of coconut palms viz.(i)mature coconut husk,(ii)tender(immature or green)coconut husk(iii)coconut leaf petiole and(iv)coir-pith were successfully pyrolysed using a simple charring kiln into carbon-rich,black,light weight and porous *** alkalinity and good ash content made them fit for remediating acid *** potassium content in these biochars could help reduce the use of inorganic *** analysis showed the mass loss phases of husk and coconut leaf petiole biochars to be ***,all four biochars gave smooth curves indicating thermal stability of the *** seed germination and earthworm avoidance tests proved their potential as soil *** incubation studies with coconut biochars in graded doses,alone or in combination with coconut leaf vermicompost,increased the pH,organic carbon and potassium contents,and promoted plant-beneficial microbiota and enzyme *** studies with tender coconut husk biochar and coconut leaf vermicompost enhanced the dry weight of cowpea plants accompanied with increased arbuscular mycorrhizal sporulation and root colonization,and root nodule dry weight.A field trial resulted in higher chilli yields with tender coconut husk biochar+coconut leaf vermicompost *** results from our studies highlight the potential of pyrolysis as an innovative technology for quick recycling of highly recalcitrant coconut palm biomass residues to biochars as a local source of soil amendment to aid regenerative agriculture in humid tropics.

Carvacrol Promotes Cell Cycle Arrest and Apoptosis through PI3K/AKT Signaling Pathway in MCF-7 Breast Cancer Cells

Objective:To examine the role of carvacrol in modulating PI3 K/AKT signaling involved in human breast cancer pathogenesis using in vitro experimental model MCF-7 ***:MTT and lactate dehydrogenase assays were performed with cells treated with different doses of carvacrol(0–250μmol/L)at different time points(24 and 48 h).The nuclear morphology was assessed in MCF-7 cells with propidium iodide(PI)and acridine orange/ethidium bromide(AO/EB)staining and analyzed by fluorescence *** like cell cycle arrest and apoptosis were observed by flow cytometric analysis and expressions of p-Rb,cyclin D1,cyclin-dependent kinase 4(CDK4),CDK6,Bax,Bcl-2,PI3 K/p-AKT were analyzed by ***:Carvacrol significantly reduced cell viability with the half maximal inhibitory concentration value of 200μmol/L at 24 and 48 h(P<0.05).importantly,there was a significant increase in the accumulation of the G0/G1 phase upon treatment with carvacrol in MCF-7 cells(P<0.05 or P<0.01).A remarkable decrease in protein expressions of p-Rb,cyclin D1,CDK4 and CDK6 denoted cell cycle arrest(P<0.05 or P<0.01).In addition,carvacrol treatment significantly inhibited PI3 K/p-AKT protein expressions leading to induction of apoptosis mediated by decreased Bcl2 and increased Bax protein ***,Annexin V/PI staining by FACS analysis,dual staining by AO/EB and PI staining studies suggested induction of apoptosis by carvacrol through PI3 K/Akt signaling pathway in MCF-7 ***:Carvacrol significantly inhibited the breast cancer MCF-7 cell proliferation and induced apoptosis via suppressing PI3/AKT signaling pathway.
