The polymer P1 binds through electrostatic interaction with Gram-negative bacteria and bind on the surface of the microbe due to the presence of outer membrane in *** leading to aggregation. In case of fungi, there is no interaction with polymer P1. This newly designed low toxic polymer provides simple, fast and cost effective, fluorimetric detection method to discriminate the micro-organisms.

Aim： To investigate the role of CAG and GGN repeats as genetic background affecting androgen insensitivity syndrome （AIS） phenotype. Methods： We analyzed lengths of androgen receptor （AR）-CAG and GGN repeats in 69 AIS cases, along with 136 unrelated normal male individuals. The lengths of repeats were analyzed using polymerase chain reaction （PCR） amplification followed by allelic genotyping to determine allele length. Results： Our study revealed significantly shorter mean lengths of CAG repeats in patients （mean 18.25 repeats, range 14-26 repeats） in comparison to the controls （mean 22.57 repeats, range 12-39 repeats）（two-tailed P 〈 0.0001）. GGN repeats, however, did not differ significantly between patients （mean 21.48 repeats） and controls （mean 21.21 repeats）（two- tailed P = 0.474）. Among patients＇ groups, the mean number of CAG repeats in partial androgen insensitivity cases （mean 15.83 repeats） was significantly less than in complete androgen insensitivity cases （mean 19.46 repeats）（two- tailed P 〈 0.0001）. Conclusion： The findings suggest that shorter lengths of repeats in the AR gene might act as low penetrance genetic background in varying manifestation of androgen insensitivity.

Terrain characteristics of the land and meteorological properties of the region are the main natural factors for flood. The recent flood in Chennai was unexpected and not triggered by the above factors. Sometimes floods occur when the watershed size is considerably small which leads to the over flow of water inland may due to the encroachment and the urban development of the city. Temporarily used backwater effects in sewers and local drainage channels and creation of unsanitary conditions may cause flooding. Chennai flood was basically claimed to occur due to improper drainage system and underlying strata which was found to be landfill over the ponds and lakes. The Coouam River which flows through the centre of main city was found silting due to the improper drainage facilities and encroachment by the local peoples who causes flood. For the analysis of potentially affected areas Geographical Information System (GIS) integrated with Multicriteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) were employed. Ranking and displaying the potentially risky areas, the spatial Multicriteria analysis was used. It has been revealed that all most all the area’s having populations are likely to be exposed to flood hazard. At the end of study, a map of flood risk areas was generated and studied with a view to assisting decision makers on the consequences posed by the disaster.

Objective:To reveal the screening of metal tolerance and dye-decolorizing of Nocardiopsis ***:NiSO_(4) and Congo red dye were used for evaluating the metal tolerance and dyedecolorizing of the randomly selected actinobacterial ***:Nocardiopsis ***8 showed a better efficiency in Ni(II)tolerance,though a longer lag phase was observed for this microorganism grown for 7 days in integrated mismatch ***,we also found that Nocardiopsis ***8 had dye-decolorizing,hemolytic,lipase and protease ***:The present results revealed the bioremediation of metal resistant and diverse properties of Nocardiopsis ***8 and further investigations are needed to extract and identify the potent molecule.

Heavy metals are considered to be the most common environmental pollutants in waters and biota;that indicate presence of effluents associated with industrial and domestic sources. The present study aimed to evaluate the trace metal accumulation (Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, Cd, Pd and Ni) in the tissue of radiate top shell, the sediment and water samples collected from the Hare Island, Tuticorin, during May 2015 to April 2016. During the study, the metal accumulation in the Water, Sediment and Tissue were in the order of Zn > Pb > Cu > Cd;Fe > Mn > Zn > Cu > Cd;Fe > Zn > Mn > Cu > Cd > Pb > Ni respectively. The concentration of Fe dominated in the sediment and tissue sample throughout the study period. Elevated levels of trace metals especially Fe, Mn, Cu, Pb and Zn was observed during October to December, i.e., during the northeast monsoon in all the samples. One way ANOVA indicated statistically no significant difference (p > 0.01) in the variation of Fe, Mn and Ni within the samples.

【目的】载脂蛋白是一种重要的血淋巴脂蛋白,它将90%的脂类输送到内部器官。本研究旨在调查家蚕Bombyx mori各个发育期血淋巴载脂蛋白组成变化。【方法】采用溴化钾密度梯度超离心、肝素钠沉淀(heparin sodium precipitation)和连接蒸发光散射检测器的高效液相色谱(high performance liquid chromatography coupled with evaporative light scattering detector,HPLC-ELSD)等方法,检测了家蚕各个发育期血淋巴脂蛋白组成变化。【结果】从5龄幼虫到成虫的转变过程中,从幼虫期和吐丝期家蚕中分离的载脂蛋白密度分别为1.130和1.139 g/mL,但蛹期载脂蛋白密度降低(为1.083 g/mL)。应用肝素钠沉淀法对载脂蛋白组成的分析表明,家蚕吐丝期载脂蛋白主要是高密度载脂蛋白(9.8μg/μL);从吐丝期开始,低密度载脂蛋白含量增加,并在蛹期持续存在(4.2μg/μL)。在所有发育期,载脂蛋白Ⅲ含量低,在2日龄蛹中含量最高(4.0μg/μL)。另外,从吐丝期至成虫期,总脂浓度逐渐增加,从1.4μg/μL增加至3.8μg/μL。通过HPLC-ELSD对中性脂组成的分析表明,在所有发育期只含有微量的单酰甘油(<0.04μg/μL),在5龄幼虫中期至蛹期末观察到二酰甘油(0.11~0.61μg/μL),在蛹期发现三酰甘油(0.18~1.02μg/μL)。【结论】总体结果说明,在幼虫期和吐丝期,高密度载脂蛋白主要运输二酰甘油;化蛹后,高密度载脂蛋白更多地与三酰甘油有关,而与二酰甘油相关性小,并与载脂蛋白Ⅲ形成低密度载脂蛋白有关。这些结果提示载脂蛋白的转变是一个精确的时间控制过程。

Synthesis, Characterization and Metal Ion Adsorption Studies on Novel Aromatic Poly(Azomethine Amide)s Containing Thiourea Groups

A series of novel ladder-type poly(azomethine amide)s (PAMs) were prepared from new azomethine containing carboxylic acid monomer (TCA) with simple aromatic diamines and aromatic diamines with thiourea groups (TDAs) by means of phosphorylation polycondensation reaction. Molecular weights of the polyamides were evaluated viscometrically, and the inherent viscosities were in the range of 0.31 - 0.58 g/dl. These ladder-type polymers were not freely soluble in common organic solvents. Structure of monomers and polymers were confirmed using FT-IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectroscopic analysis. Removal of Cu2+ and Cd2+ from aqueous solutions by adsorption onto the polyamides was investigated. The effect of pH, initial metal ion concentrations and contact time were studied in batch experiments. The polyamides were found to be highly effective adsorbents for the removal of Cu2+ and Cd2+ metal ions from aqueous solutions. In a mixture of metal ions, the selectivity order was found to be Pb(II) > Cu(II) > Cr(IV) > Cd(II).

Cut Throat Injuries—A Retrospective Study at a Tertiary Referral Hospital

Objective: To analyze the socio demographic pattern, sex and age ratio, common causes, the most common site and extent of the injury in the patients with cut throat injury at our hospital. To compare the same with previous similar studies conducted at other centers in different parts of the world. Setting: Department of ENT, Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai, India from January 2013 to June 2014. Methods: A total of 51 cases of cut throat injury were included in the study. Separate proforma was prepared to collect the patients’ data. Structured questionnaire was offered. Results: 51 cases of cut throat injury patients were included in the study. Age varied from 4 years to 80 years. Out of 51 cases, there were 43 males, 7 females and one male child. Male to female ratio was 6.2:1. All the patients were belonging to lower socioeconomic status (Kuppusamy class 5). Amongst them 26 cases (50.98%) were due to homicidal attack;13 cases (25.49%) due to suicidal attempt;7 cases (13.72%) due to road traffic accident;4 cases (7.84%) due to bull gore injury;1 case (1.96%) due to accidental fall. Emergency tracheostomy was done in 16 cases (33.33%). An average hospital stay for most of the patients was less than 3 weeks. 2 victims (3.92%) died due to haemorhage, aspiration pnuemonia and septicemia. Conclusions: Our study found that the majority of the victims were males of age between 20 years to 40 years from poor socioeconomic status. Social commitment and political motivation, decrease in the poverty, individual awareness, increase in economic growth, and literacy rate will prevent the cut throat injuries. Early and improved management will reduce the mortality and morbidity.

The use of natural killer(NK)cells is a promising and safe immunotherapeutic approach in the field of cancer ***,combination treatments are required to enhance the effector functions and therapeutic efficacy of NK *** this study,we investigated the potential of daratumumab(Dara),bortezomib,and dexamethasone(Dvd)to augment the antitumor effects of NK cells in a multiple myeloma(MM)xenograft mouse *** cells were expanded and activated using the K562-OX40 ligand and membrane-bound IL-18 and IL-21 in the presence of IL-2 and IL-15 from peripheral blood mononuclear cells from MM patients.A human MM xenograft model was established using human RPMI8226-RFP-FLuc cells in NOD/SCID IL-2Rγnull(NSG)***-bearing mice were divided into six treatment groups:no treatment,expanded NK cells(eNKs),Dara,Dara+eNKs,Dvd,and Dvd+*** treatment strongly enhanced the cytotoxicity of eNKs by upregulating expression of NK cell activation ligands,downregulating expression of NK cell inhibitory ligands,and promoting antibody-dependent cellular *** combination of eNKs with Dvd significantly prolonged mouse survival and reduced the tumor burden and serum M-protein ***,Dvd pretreatment significantly increased eNK persistence and homing to MM *** findings suggest that Dvd treatment potentiates the antimyeloma effects of NK cells expanded and activated ex vivo by modulating immune responses in MM-bearing mice.
