One-pot synthesis of silver nanocomposites from Achyranthes aspera:An eco-friendly larvicide against Aedes aegypti L.

Objective:To formulate silver nanocomposites from Achyranthes aspera leaf extracts and evaluate its larvicidal activity against Aedes ***:The silver nanocomposites were synthesized from Achyranthes aspera leaf *** process was optimized and traced through UV-visible and photon correlation *** larvicidal potential of silver nanocomposites of Achyranthes aspera leaf extracts was assessed against the early fourth instars of Aedes aegypti and three non-target ***,the most effective and eco-safe nanocomposite was characterized by different biophysical techniques including scanning electron microscopy(SEM),energy dispersive X-ray(EDX)spectroscopy,transmission electron microscopy(TEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD)and Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR).Results:The formulated silver nanocomposites exhibited efficient larvicidal efficacy against Aedes *** with silver nanocomposites formulated using different Ag NO3 concentrations(3,4,and 5 m M)revealed respective LC50 values of 37.570,6.262 and 1.041μg/m L;5.819,1.412 and 0.489μg/m L;and 5.519,1.302 and 0.267μg/m L after 24,48 and 72 *** silver nanocomposites with 4 m M Ag NO3 were selected for *** and TEM analysis revealed spherical,poly-dispersed structure with varied diameters of 1-25 *** XRD analysis established the crystalline and face-centred-cubic structure of silver nanocomposites with the maximum peak at a 2θvalue of 37.42°.The EDX pattern showed the presence of Ag,O and C in the nanocomposites in their order of weight%.The FT-IR displayed visibly distinct peaks in different ranges demonstrating the intricacy of silver *** addition,the lethal concentrations of silver nanocomposites of Achyranthes aspera leaf extracts against Aedes aegypti larvae were non-toxic to non-target organisms including Gambusia affinis,Daphnia magna and Moina ***:Silver nanocomposites synthesized with leaf extract of Achy

Deltamethrin:Promising mosquito control agent against adult stage of Aedes aegypti L.

Objective:To evaluate the effects of deltamethrin against field-collected adults of Aedes aegypti L(***).Methods:The adults were selected with 0.025%deltamethrin for 40 successive *** selected adults were tested with 4%DDT and the emerging larvae were tested with various insecticides to study the cross-resistance *** knockdown and irritability studies were carried out in adult mosquitoes to investigate their behavioural response to ***:Forty generations of selection with deltamethrin resulted in only 3.8-fold resistance in the adults of *** adults of parent(PS) and selected strains (DAS) exhibited only 0.8-fold cross resistance to 4%*** larvae emerging from the PS and DAS strains did not develop appreciable levels of resistance to various insecticides *** knockdown studies revealed KTSO of 14.4 min in PS adults with no signs of recovery even after 24 h. The DAS strains could develop only 1.2 to 1.3-fold knockdown resistance(KDR).The knockdown response of DDT was though 5-6 times slower than deltamethrin but the continued response in deltamethrin-selected adults caused only 1.2-fold *** PS and DAS strains exhibited significant irritability response towards deltamethrin and *** DAS strains showed 5-6 fold increased irritability to deltamethrin as compared to the PS ***:The above results suggest the prolonged effective use of deltamethrin against *** as an adulticide.

Multiple insecticide resistance/susceptibility status of Culex quinquefasciatus,principal vector of bancroftian filariasis from filaria endemic areas of northern India

Objective:To understand the insecticide resistance status of Culex quinquefasciatus Say（Diptera: Culicidae）（***） to deltamethrin,cyfluthrin,permethrin,lambdacyhalothrin, DDT and malathion in filarial endemic areas of Uttar Pradesh,***:Insecticide susceptibility assays were performed on wild-caught adult female *** mosquitoes to deltamethrin（0.05%）,cyfluthrin（0.15%）,permethrin（0.75%）,lambdacyhalothrin （0.05%）,malathion（5.0%） and DDT（4.0%）,the discriminating doses recommended by the World Health Organisation（WHO）.Results:The data showed that *** is highly resistant to DDT and malathion;the mortality was 28.33%and 27.5%,respectively and incipient resistance to synthetic pyrethroids（deltamethrin,cyfluthrin,permethrin,and lambdacyhalothrin）, where mortality ranged from 95.83%in permethrin to 98.33%in cyfluthrin and lambdacyhalothrin. Knockdown times(KDT50) in response to synthetic pyrethroids varied significantly between different insecticides（P<0.01） from 31.480 min for permethrin to 21.650 for cyfluthrin. Conclusions:The results presents here provide the status report of the insecticide resistance/ susceptibility of *** in major filaria endemic areas of northern India.

Bioefficacy of Mentha piperita essential oil against dengue fever mosquito Aedes aegypti L

Objective:To assess the larvicidal and repellent potential of the essential oil extracted from the leaves of peppermint plant,Mentha piperita(***) against the larval and adult stages of Aedes aegypti(***).Methods:The larvicidal potential of peppermint oil was evaluated against early fourth instar larvae of *** using WHO *** mortality counts were made after 24 and 48 h,and LC_(50) and LC_(90) values were *** efficacy of peppermint oil as mosquito repellent was assessed using the human-bait *** measured area of one arm of a human volunteer was applied with the oil and the other arm was applied with *** mosquito bites on both the arms were recorded for 3 min after every 15 *** experiment continued for 3 h and the percent protection was ***:The essential oil extracted from *** possessed excellent larvicidal efficiency against dengue vector. The bioassays showed an LC_(50) and LC_(90) value of 111.9 and 295.18 ppm,respectively after 24 h of *** toxicity of the oil increased 11.8%when the larvae were exposed to the oil for 48 *** remarkable repellent properties of *** essential oil were established against adults *** application of oil resulted in 100%protection till 150 *** next 30 min, only 1-2 bites were recorded as compared with 8-9 bites on the control ***:The peppermint essential oil is proved to be efficient larvicide and repellent against dengue vector. Further studies are needed to identify the possible role of oil as adulticide,oviposilion deterrent and ovicidal *** isolation of active ingredient from the oil could help in formulating strategies for mosquito control.

松油和桂皮油由于具有芳香性气味,因而成为良好的成虫驱避剂,但是关于它们对蚊虫的杀幼虫作用研究不多。为揭示市售的长叶松Pinus longifolia油和锡兰肉桂Cinnamomum zeylanicum油对来源于印度德里的埃及伊蚊Aedes aegypti4龄幼虫的毒杀潜力,我们进行了室内研究,以幼虫死亡率及行为改变和形态改变等指标评估其杀幼虫潜力。结果表明:两种油对埃及伊蚊4龄幼虫均具有毒杀作用,且松油的灭幼效果优于桂皮油。松油的LC50和LC70值分别为0.33093mg/L和0.54476mg/L,而桂皮油的LC50和LC70值分别为0.63159mg/L和0.77736。进一步观察发现,LC90剂量下桂皮油的杀幼虫潜力强于松油,其LC90为1.11879mg/L,而松油的LC90为1.04915mg/L。在处理的幼虫中观察到行为改变,如兴奋、坐立不安、颤抖、痉挛然后瘫痪,说明这两种油可能对其神经肌肉系统产生了影响。显微观察处理幼虫的形态改变发现,与对照相比,大多数器官的外观正常,只是肛鳃略为内收缩而引起结构畸形,提示肛腮可能是这两种油的作用位点,腮的功能异常引起了幼虫死亡。这两种油品可开发用作防治蚊虫的新型杀幼虫药剂。

了解敏感和抗性蚊虫的繁殖适合度对于规划和实施蚊虫防治计划具有重要意义。本研究分别将斯氏按蚊Anophelesstephensi幼虫用溴氰菊酯(AnDL)及溴氰菊酯和PBO混配制剂(1∶5)(AnDP),或斯氏按蚊成虫用溴氰菊酯(AnDA)进行选择后,在实验室内检测了起源于印度德里的斯氏按蚊亲本(AnS)和抗性品系(AnR)的繁殖适合度的变化,从繁殖力、生育力、卵孵化率和生殖营养周期的长度等方面评价了斯氏按蚊的繁殖适合度。结果表明:与AnS品系相比,AnR品系的生殖营养周期缩短了60%～73%。与AnS品系相比,AnR品系的产卵量显著降低,降幅达14.5%～37.9%,对溴氰菊酯抗性最强的AnDL40品系的产卵量降低得最多。这些结果说明溴氰菊酯抗性与繁殖劣势之间可能存在正相关。与亲本品系相比,AnDL40品系的卵孵化率降低了19.4%～30.9%,进一步证实了这一相关性。在RDP品系中观察到繁殖适合度降低,表明溴氰菊酯增效剂的选择不仅在降低溴氰菊酯抗性水平而且在降低抗性个体频率上的效率。在对溴氰菊酯几乎不具有抗性的成虫品系的选择中繁殖适合度降低,暗示溴氰菊酯作为灭杀斯氏按蚊成虫剂的效果要好于作为杀幼虫剂的效果。这些结果提示,通过对斯氏按蚊实施不同抗性治理策略,种群中抗性基因型的繁殖适合度的降低可消除杂合子和抗性纯合子。

Salton Sea: An ecosystem in crisis

Salton Sea (a destination resort) is to be saved from being converted into a skeletonfilled wasteland. The critical amount of water flowing into the sea to maintain its level and salinity has been diverted since January 2018. This will lead to shrinking volumes and increasing salinities. Ecological consequences and public health impacts of altered conditions will be phenomenal. We design and analyze a minimal eco-epidemiological model to figure out future journey of this sea;a way station for fish-eating migratory birds. The mathematical model has been assembled in terms of prey-predator interaction. The salient feature of the proposed model is its seasonally varying contact rate which represents rate of conversion of susceptible fishes into infectives. We have analytically investigated the global stability, disease persistence and periodic solutions of the proposed model system. Susceptible prey-induced periodic solution is globally asymptotically stable when R01 *** stability and Hopf bifurcation (HB) analysis help us extract parameter values to explore the dynamical behavior of the model system. Two-dimensional parameter scans and bifurcation diagrams reveal that the model displays propensity towards chaotic dynamics, which is associated with extinction-sized population densities. In the presence of stochastic external forces, this implies extinction of most of the fish species. This, in turn, suggests that resident birds will have to migrate to other destinations. The fish-eating migratory birds will be forced to switch over to invertebrates. Ecological consequences and public health impacts of this transition would be severe. Conservation groups are solicited to draw attention of the government to avert this impounding danger. It is important to plan for an ecosystem-wide transition such that impacts on birds and on human inhabitants living adjacent to the shrinking and salinizing sea are minimized

A Comparative Study of Resonances in the Dynamics of the Mimas-Tethys System

The probability of capture of Mimas-Tethys in 2:4 resonance was found to be 0.76 by Champenois when they considered the orbit of Tethys to be elliptical (that is eccentricity of Tethys to be 0.0008) and chaos was taken into account. It means probability of capture in i21 or ?i23?resonance is 0.24 (i.e. probability of non capture in i1i3?resonance). Here we have done the comparative study of the dynamics of Mimas-Tethys system at i1i3, i1i3e3, i21e3, i23e3 and i21, i1i3e3, i21e3, i23e3 resonances along with secular resonance of Saturn’s six inner satellites and Saturn’s oblateness. We have drawn Poincare surface of sections and Time series graphs to compare their effect.

Geochemistry of the Neoproterozoic Volcanic Rocks of the Nakora Area of Malani Igneous Suite, Barmer District, Western Rajasthan, India

The Neoproterozoic rocks of the Nakora Ring Complex (NRC) consist of three phases (Extrusive, Intrusive and Dyke) that are based on the detailed geological mapping (contact relationship, mode of occurrence, position of xenolith, flows, dykes and veins) and their stratigraphic position. NRC consists mainly of acid volcanic rocks besides minor amount of basic rocks with intermediate calc-alkaline to tholeiitic affinities and occurs in the form of ring structures. The Nakora basaltic rocks show LREE enriched nature and they have consistent negative Nb, Ta, Sr and Zr anomalies. The HREE pattern is showing parallel arrangement with HREE pattern of other basic rocks. The Nakora acid volcanic rocks exhibit high LREE enrichment than the HREE with negative Ba, Sr, Eu and Ti anomalies in primitive mantle normalized multi-element diagrams. All the samples show negative Ba, Sr, Eu and Ti anomalies. The diminution in amounts of Sr and Eu is apparently related to the fractionation of feldspars or their retention in the refractory minerals resistant to melting in the lower crust. As compared to trachytes, the rhyolites show high SiO2, high Al2O3, low total alkalis, low total iron, low TiO2, high CaO and high MgO. The petro-mineralogical and geo-chemical data specifies that the NRC rocks are generated from a co-magmatic source through a co-genetic process in a rift tectonic context. Petrogenetic modeling indicates that both the basic rocks and acid volcanic rocks of Nakora may have been derived from rocks akin to Bhilwara mafic metavolcanic/mixed Nakora gabbros and Siwana rhyolite/banded gneiss from Kolar Schist Belt by different degrees of partial melting respectively.
