Following a seismic event that occurred years ago in Central Italy, the public opinion was growing and growing a concern on the adequacy of educational buildings all across Italy. This activated several political decisions and a consequent technical effort is in progress. Technically speaking one has to manage the classical problem of retrofitting existing buildings. However, the legal environment goes across national codes, targeted guidelines and the professional need of achieving pragmatic solutions based on ethical and social acceptation *** paper introduces the topic in its worldwide exception and focuses then on some operative aspects in the Italian situation. It outlines the consolidated steps along this technical process and emphasizes the weak aspects one meets when going across the designers＇ reports.

A new four-dimensional quadratic smooth autonomous chaotic system is presented in this paper, which can exhibit periodic orbit and chaos under the conditions on the system parameters. Importantly, the system can generate one-, two-, three- and four-scroll chaotic attractors with appropriate choices of parameters. Interestingly, all the attractors are generated only by changing a single parameter. The dynamic analysis approach in the paper involves time series, phase portraits, Poincare maps, a bifurcation diagram, and Lyapunov exponents, to investigate some basic dynamical behaviours of the proposed four-dimensional system.

Like many countries,Canada's building code includes a performance compliance path that compares the energy use of a proposed design to that of a reference ***,provinces across Canada are contemplating an alternative absolute energy use intensity ***,the effect of adopting the absolute approach on house design is not well *** study first developed a proof-of-concept methodology for a technical simulation-based comparison of the two ***,it performed a comparative analysis between the design outcomes of the two approaches using the developed *** this end,statistically representative archetypes were configured to comply with the prescriptive requirements of the building *** characteristics of each archetype were then varied through parametric study,and the resulting energy performance under the absolute and comparative approaches were *** results of this study indicated that the two approaches had different effects on the design and energy use of houses in heating-dominated climate *** performing better under the absolute approach consumed less energy and exhibited more compact architectural *** houses were also less sensitive to improvements in airtightness and envelope than houses performing better under the comparative *** results suggest that adopting the absolute approach based on the energy use intensity metric in building codes would encourage design and construction of houses with higher energy efficiency.

research on sexual selection and hybridization has focused on female mate choice and male-male competition. While the evolutionary outcomes of interspecific female preference have been well explored, we are now gaining a better understanding of the processes by which male-male compe- tition between species in secondary contact promotes reproductive isolation versus hybridization. What is relatively unexplored is the interaction between female choice and male competition, as they can oppose one another or align with similar outcomes for reproductive isolation. The role of female-female competition in hybridization is also not well understood, but could operate similarly to male-male competition in polyandrous and other systems where costs to heterospecific mating are low for females. reproductive competition between either sex of sympatric species can cause the divergence and/or convergence of sexual signals and recognition, which in turn influences the likelihood for interspecific mating. Future work on species interactions in secondary contact should test the relative influences of both mate choice and competition for mates on hybridization outcomes, and should not ignore the possibilities that females can compete over mating resources, and males can exercise mate choice.

Developmental and epileptic encephalopathy 9(DEE9):The gene PCDH19(Xq22.1),which encodes the calcium-dependent cell adhesion protein protocadherin-19(PCDH19),is nowadays considered as one of the most important genes in monogenic epilepsy(Depienne and LeGuern,2012).Mutations in PCDH19 are responsible for DEE9(OMIM#300088),a severe neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by early-onset clustering epilepsy,various degrees of cognitive impairment and neuro psychiatric comorbidities,like autism spectrum disorder(ASD)and behavioural ***9 patients start suffering from seizures around the age of 10 months until adolescence,when seizures tend to reduce or even disappear,while the psychiatric symptoms persist(Depienne and LeGuern,2012;Kolc et al.,2018).

Quadrilateral finite elements for linear micropolar continuum theory are developed using linked *** order to satisfy convergence criteria,the newly presented finite elements are modified using the Petrov-Galerkin method in which different interpolation is used for the test and trial *** elements are tested through four numerical examples consisting of a set of patch tests,a cantilever beam in pure bending and a stress concentration problem and compared with the analytical solution and quadrilateral micropolar finite elements with standard Lagrangian *** the higher-order patch test,the performance of the first-order element is significantly ***,since the problems analysed are already describable with quadratic polynomials,the enhancement due to linked interpolation for higher-order elements could not be *** the presented elements also faithfully reproduce the micropolar effects in the stress concentration analysis,but the enhancement here is negligible with respect to standard Lagrangian elements,since the higher-order polynomials in this example are not needed.
