Accurate operational solar irradiance forecasts are crucial for better decision making by solar energy system operators due to the variability of resource and energy *** numerical weather prediction(NWP)models can forecast solar radiation variables,they often have significant errors,particularly in the direct normal irradiance(DNI),which is especially affected by the type and concentration of aerosols and *** paper presents a method based on artificial neural networks(ANN)for generating operational DNI forecasts using weather and aerosol forecasts from the European Center for Medium-range Weather Forecasts(ECMWF)and the Copernicus Atmospheric Monitoring Service(CAMS),*** ANN models were designed:one uses as input the predicted weather and aerosol variables for a given instant,while the other uses a period of the improved DNI forecasts before the forecasted *** models were developed using observations for the location of´Evora,Portugal,resulting in 10 min DNI forecasts that for day 1 of forecast horizon showed an improvement over the downscaled original forecasts regarding R2,MAE and RMSE of 0.0646,21.1 W/m^(2)and 27.9 W/m^(2),*** model was also evaluated for different timesteps and locations in southern Portugal,providing good agreement with experimental data.

This paper investigates the stabilization of a Bresse system with internal damping and logarithmic source. The authors use the potential well theory. For initial data in the stability set created by the Nehari surface, the existence of a global solution is proved by using Faedo-Galerkin's approximation. The Nakao theorem gives the exponential decay.A numerical approach is presented to illustrate the results obtained.

Successful double fertilization and subsequent seed development in flowering plants requires the delivery of two sperm cells, transported by a pollen tube, into the embryo sac of an ovule. The embryo sac cells tightly control synergid cell death, and as a result the polyspermy block. Arabinogalactan proteins are highly glycosylated proteins thought to be involved in several steps of the reproductive process. We show that JAGGER, Arabinogalactan Protein 4, is an important molecule necessary to prevent the growth of multiple pollen tubes into one embryo sac in Arabidopsis thaliana. In jagger, an AGP4 knockout mutant, the pistils show impaired pollen tube blockage as a consequence of the survival of the persistent synergid. JAGGER seems to be involved in the signaling pathway that leads to a blockage of pollen tube attraction. Our results shed light on the mechanism responsible for preventing polyspermy in Arabidopsis and for safe- guarding successful fertilization of all ovules in one pistil, ensuring seed set and the next generation.

This study aimed to show that the physicochemical proprieties obtained by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FTIR）, thermogravimetry （TG）, and scanning electronic microscopy （SEM） can be useful tools for evaluating the quality of active pharmaceutical ingredients （APIs） and pharmaceutical products. In addition, a simple, sensitive, and efficient method employing HPLC-DAD was developed for simulta- neous determination of lidocaine （LID）, ciprofloxacin （CFX） and enrofloxacin （EFX） in raw materials and in veterinary pharmaceutical formulations. Compounds were separated using a Gemini Cm （250 mm×4.6 mm, 5μm） Phenomenex column, at a temperature of 25℃, with a mobile phase containing 10 mM of phosphoric acid （pH 3.29）： acetonitrile （85.7：14.3, v/v） and a flow rate of 1.5 mL/min. Physicochemical characterization by TG, FTIR, and SEM of raw materials of LID, CFX, and EFX provided information useful for the evaluation, differentiation, and qualification of raw materials. Finally, the HPLC method was proved to be useful for evaluation of raw material and finished products, besides satisfying the need for an analytical method that allows simultaneous determination of EFX, CFX, and LID, which can also be extended to other matrices and applications.

Distillation is one of the oldest and most important separation processes used in the chemical and petrochemical industries. On the other hand, it is a process the thermodynamic efficiency of which is very low, and therefore reducing the consumption of energy is one of the targets of research studies on distillation. This article arose from seeking to reduce energy consumption in a distillation train of 1,2-dichloroethane (ethylene dichloride-EDC) of a commercial plant producing vinyl monochloride (VMC), which involves an azeotropic distillation column. The reduction in the reboiler heat duty caused significant changes in concentration and temperature profiles throughout the column due to the formation of two liquid phases. The results show that, although very small in percentage terms (less than 2.5%), the appearance of the 2nd liquid phase causes significant changes in the operation of the column and the separation achieved.

Objective: To report atypical morphological features of Trichophyton(T.) tonsurans strains associated with tinea capitis. Methods: Eighty-two T. tonsurans strains isolated in Ceará, Brazil, were analyzed regarding macro and micromorphological features and nutritional patterns. Results: Fifty-two samples presented abundant chlamydoconidia, which were produced in chains. Macroscopically, these strains developed small glabrous colonies that were firmly attached to the surface of the culture medium, with few or no aerial mycelia and intense rusty yellow pigmentation. Seven strains did not grow with stimulus from thiamine. Samples were heterogeneous regarding urease production and none presented in vitro hair perforation. Conclusions: The observation of T. tonsurans strains with distinct phenotypic features indicates the need to revise the taxonomic criteria for routine identification of this dermatophyte.

Dysphagia as a Presenting Symptom of Myasthenia Gravis—Case Report

Dysphagia is a common symptom in otolaryngology, but neuromuscular causes are rarely diagnostic hypotheses to be considered. The Myasthenia Gravis is an autoimmune disease which is characterized by muscle weakness that can affect the muscles of the face, oral cavity, pharynx or esophagus and may present with swallowing disorders. The authors present the case of a 68-year-old man who went to the emergency department of otolaryngology complaining of dysphagia. After the examination and diagnostic exams, it was diagnosed as Myasthenia Gravis. The authors conclude that the clinical suspicion should not be forgotten in order to initiate timely treatment to the effective control of the disease and complement with functional tests according to the complaints, so that it can be followed up and start rehabilitation of the patient.
