Screening pre-bariatric surgery patients for esophageal disease with esophageal capsule endoscopy

AIM:To determine if esophageal capsule endoscopy(ECE)is an adequate diagnostic alternative to esophagogastroduodenoscopy(EGD)in pre-bariatric surgery ***:We conducted a prospective pilot study to assess the diagnostic accuracy of ECE(PillCam ESO2,Given Imaging)vs conventional EGD in pre-bariatric surgery *** who were scheduled for bariatric surgery and referred for pre-operative EGD were prospectively *** patients underwent ECE followed by standard *** experienced gastroenterologists blinded to the patient’s history and the findings of the EGD reviewed the ECE and documented their *** gold standard was the findings on ***:Ten patients with an average body mass index of 50 kg/m2were enrolled and completed the *** identified 11 of 14(79%)positive esophageal/gastroesophageal junction(GEJ)findings and 14of 17(82%)combined esophageal and gastric findings identified on ***’s exact test was used to compare the findings and no significant difference was found between ECE and EGD(P=0.64 for esophageal/GEJ and P=0.66 for combined esophageal and gastric findings respectively).Of the positive esophageal/GEJ findings,ECE failed to identify the following:hiatal hernia in two patients,mild esophagitis in two patients,and mild Schatzki ring in two *** was able to identify the entire esophagus in 100%,gastric cardia in0%,gastric body in 100%,gastric antrum in 70%,pylorus in 60%,and duodenum in 0%.CONCLUSION:There were no significant differences in the likelihood of identifying a positive finding using ECE compared with EGD in preoperative evaluation of bariatric patients.

AIM： To evaluate the repeatability of an optical device for measuring the Zernike coefficients of toric intraocular lenses（IOLs） and assess whether its toricity has any impact in its repeatability. METHODS： An experienced technician used the NIMO TR1504 to measure the Zernike coefficients 30 times for an aperture of 4.50 mm for all lenses included. The IOLs included were divided into two group： toric and nontoric ones. The cylindrical powers of the toric lenses included in the present study were 1.00, 1.50, 2.25, 3.00 and 3.75 D. Finally, the repeatability of the NIMO TR1504 was described in terms of within subject standard deviation（Sw） and repeatability limit. RESULTS： The Sw was smaller than 0.011 μm for both lens groups and all Zernike coefficients, and the difference between both groups was smaller than 0.004 μm for all Zernike coefficients. Regarding the repeatability limit, this value was smaller than 0.025 μm for the toric lens group, and smaller than 0.031 μm for the non-toric lens one for all Zernike coefficients. Furthermore, the maximum difference between both lens groups was 0.010 μm. CONCLUSION： The repeatability of the NIMO TR1504 to measure the optical quality is high and independent of the lens toricity. These results reflect that this system is robust and could be used to measure the in-vitro optical quality of either toric or non-toric IOLs.

District energy systems(DES)offer an optimal solution for decarbonising the heating and cooling sector while attaining multiple additional *** first step to analyse the potential of DES in both new and existing markets is through rapid assessments(RA).Currently,publicly available models lack rapid assessments of the technical-economic and environmental potential of *** RA model was developed within the framework of UNEP’s District Energy in Cities Initiative to identify DES’s potential spending low time and monetary *** this light,the study presents a model for conducting a rapid assessment applied to the case of Temuco,*** show that a total of 55 MW DH(district heating)capacity is required to cover the heating demand.A wood-chip boiler of 25 MW capacity and a gas boiler of 30 MW capacity are considered in the *** total CAPEX of the project is around 25 billion CLP,with a NPV of 10.5 billion CLP and an IRR of 14%.The project is also estimated to achieve an annual reduction of 24,382 tons of PM10 and 23,692 tons of *** model was validated against an independent study conducted by an international consulting company,and the results were found to be in close proximity with the ***,the model can be an effective tool for performing rapid assessments of DES projects in the region and subjecting attractive projects to more detailed pre-feasibility analysis.

为了探究静态流化冰对鱿鱼的保鲜效果,以东海海域的新鲜鱿鱼为研究对象,采用品质、理化性质及微生物等检测方法,分别研究鱿鱼在流化冰、淡水碎冰和冰箱贮藏条件下的保鲜效果。经15 d的保鲜研究表明:冰箱保鲜鱿鱼的感官评分、水分含量、p H值、TVB-N、菌落总数、弹性、咀嚼性依次为3.36、77.42%、7.65、>30 mg/100 g、7.04 lg CFU/g、0.05 mm、0.06 MJ;淡水碎冰保鲜鱿鱼的各项指标为3.95、78.33%、7.23、>30 mg/100 g、6.61 lg CFU/g、0.06 mm、0.10 MJ;流化冰保鲜鱿鱼的各项指标为6.57、84.78%、6.64、13.26 mg/100 g、4.73 lg CFU/g、0.16 mm、0.16 MJ。分析可知(1)流化冰具有保持鱿鱼原有鲜度、理化、卫生等特性的效果,(2)流化冰对鱿鱼的保鲜效果明显优于冰箱和淡水碎冰。结果提示:流化冰相对于冰箱、碎冰保鲜而言,能更有效地减缓鱿鱼的腐败变质速度,延长货架期,从而可提高水产品贮运保鲜品质。

Postcopulatory sexual selection through sperm competition may be an important evolutionary force affecting many reproductive traits, including sperm morphometrics. Environmental factors such as pollutants, pesticides, and climate change may affect different sperm traits, and thus reproduction, in sensitive bird species. Many sperm-handling processes used in assisted reproductive techniques may also affect the size of sperm cells. The accurately measured dimensions of sperm cell structures （especially the head） can thus be used as indicators of environmental influences, in improving our understanding of reproductive and evolutionary strategies, and for optimizing assisted reproductive techniques （e.g., sperm cryopreservation） for use with birds. Computer-assisted sperm morphometry analysis （CASA-Morph） provides an accurate and reliable method for assessing sperm morphometry, reducing the problem of subjectivity associated with human visual assessment. Computerized systems have been standardized for use with semen from different mammalian species. Avian spermatozoa, however, are filiform, limiting their analysis with such systems, which were developed to examine the approximately spherical heads of mammalian sperm cells. To help overcome this, the standardization of staining techniques to be used in compute^-assessed light microscopical methods is a priority. The present review discusses these points and describes the sperm morphometric characteristics of several wild and domestic bird species.

AIM:To determine the prevalence of refractive error in 5-to 17-year-old schoolchildren in Puerto ***:A quantitative descriptive study of 2867 children aged 5 to 17y from all seven educational regions of Puerto Rico was conducted from 2016–*** error was determined via static and subjective *** with distance acuity≤20/40 or near visual acuity≤20/32 had a cycloplegic *** analysis included descriptive statistics,correlation coefficient,Kruskal-Wallis,Chi-square,and t test ***:Twenty percent of the children had a spherical equivalent refractive error≤-0.50 D,3.2%had a spherical equivalent≥+2.00 D,and 10.4%had astigmatism≥1 *** was a statistically(but non-clinically)significant myopic change in spherical equivalent refractive error with age(P<0.001).The prevalence of myopia increased with age(P<0.001)but not hyperopia(P=0.59)or astigmatism(P=0.51).Males had a significantly higher hyperopic spherical equivalent than females(P<0.001).Females had a higher prevalence of myopia(P<0.001)than males,but there was no difference in the hyperopia(P=0.74)or astigmatism prevalence(P=0.87).CONCLUSION:The prevalence of a spherical equivalent equal to or less than-0.50 D(myopia,20.7%)is one of the highest among similar-aged children *** studies should explore the rate of myopia progression in children in Puerto *** children must be monitored to examine the need for treatment of myopia progression.

Charcoal gasification could mitigate the energetic problems in the rural zones since these regions have considerable amounts of wood, which is the base of such a fuel available. This paper presents some CFD （computational fluid dynamic） predictions of the experimental results obtained from the fixed bed gasification of charcoal made in a pilot-scale downdraft reactor using air, which was designed and built by the Research Group in Clean Development Mechanisms and Energy Management, from the National University of Colombia. The quality of the syngas obtained from the process was evaluated through the CO and CO2 percentages measured in its composition. The performance at various air flow rates （measured at the system entrance, through an analog flow meter） is evaluated with the help of 11 thermocouples, which give the information to create a temperature profile, and three load cells to measure the solid fuel conversion rate. To simulate the process, the information from temperature profile, charcoal proximate analysis, air flow meter and load cells were taken as inputs and the syngas composition was obtained as the result from the calculation. The domain was defined as 2D with an axis-symmetric description, using quads as mesh elements. The calculation and results were performed in a CFD commercial code widely used for this type of simulations： ANSYS FLUENT. The predictions made by the software were validated with the experimental results obtained in the laboratory.
