Expression of L amino acid transport system 1 and analysis of iodine-123-methyltyrosine tumor uptake in a pancreatic xenotransplantation model using fused high-resolution-micro-SPECT-MRI

BACKGROUND:The specificity in discriminating pancreatitis is limited in the positron emission tomography(PET)using ***,PET is not widely available compared to the single photon emission computed tomography(SPECT).Since amino acids play a minor role in metabolism of inflammatory cells,the potential of the SPECT tracer,3-[ 123 I]iodo-L-α-methyltyrosine(123I-IMT),for detecting pancreatic cancer was examined in xenotransplantation models of human pancreatic carcinoma in mice. Aperture Coupled Microstrip Antenna for Dual-Band

This paper presents air gap aperture coupled microstrip antenna for dual-band operation over the frequency range of (2.9 to 6.0 GHz). This antenna differs from any other microstrip antenna with their feeding structure of the radiating patch element. Input signal couples to the radiating patch trough the aperture that exists on the ground plane of microstrip feed line. The dual-band achieved by variation of air gap [2 mm to 6 mm] between single patch antenna and aper-ture coupled microstrip antenna. The main advantage of this type antenna is increased the bandwidth of the antenna as compared to a single layered patch antenna. The two resonant frequencies can vary over a wide frequency range and the input impedance is easily matched for both frequencies. The obtain ratios of resonance frequencies are variable from 2.1 GHz to 1.1 GHz with increasing the air gap between single patch and aperture coupled microstrip antenna. The measured return loss [–14 dB] exhibits an impedance bandwidth of 35%. The input impedance and VSWR return loss have been measured with the help of Network analyzer.

目的:化学消毒后根管内细菌持留是持续性根尖周病变的主要原因。研究表明DMADDM和DMAHDM与牙科材料整合后能够抑制生物膜的生长。本实验旨在研究亚抑菌浓度下的DMADDM和DMAHDM的游离单体对根管内常见细菌存活和生物膜形成的影响。材料和方法:粪肠球菌,戈登链球菌,嗜酸乳杆菌,纳氏放线菌组成的生物膜在含有亚抑菌浓度的DMADDM和DMAHDA的BHI培养基中培养一个月,通过激光共聚焦显微镜、乳酸产量、MTT法测定细菌存活和生物膜的形成。结果:亚抑制浓度下形成的生物膜具有较高的代谢活性和乳酸产量,生物膜活菌量少(p<0.05),第15天时DMADDM组生物膜中活菌量上升到与对照相同的水平,在25天DMAHDM组也观察到类似的结果。各时间点,DMADDM组中细菌EPS量显著高于对照组和DMAHDM(p<0.05),对照组和DMAHDM组分别在第15天和20天时达到相同的EPS量。在DMADDM和DMAHDM作用下形成的生物膜已经获得2～8倍的耐受性,未观察到交叉耐药。结论:亚抑菌浓度的DMADDM和DMAHDM能诱导根管内细菌耐药,为持续性根尖周病变根管治疗高失败率的原因提供参考。

Chemical composition and source apportionment of PM2.5 and PM2.5-10 in Trombay （Mumbai, India）, a coastal industrial area

PM2.5 and PM2.5 lo concentrations, elemental constituents, and sources in a densely populated coastal industrial area （Trombay, Mumbai） were investigated in 2010 and *** PM2.s and PM2.s lo concentra- tions were 13.50-71.60 and 22.40-127.78 p^g/m3, respectively. The daily PM25 concentrations exceeded the Indian Central Pollution Control Board limit （60 μg/m3） several days in winter. Of the elements analyzed, Si then Al had the highest concentrations in PM2.5- 10, but black carbon then Si had the highest concentrations in PM2.s. The element concentrations varied widely by season. Al, Ca, Fe, Si, and Ti con- centrations were highest in summer, Cl, Mg, and Na concentrations were highest in the monsoon season, and the other trace metal concentrations in both PM2.5 and PM2.5-10 were highest in winter. The PM2.5 and PM2.5-10 sources were apportioned by positive matrix factorization. PM2.5 and PM2.5-10 had six dominant sources, crustal material （8.7% and 25.3%, respectively）, sea salt spray （6.1% and 15.0%, respectively）, coal/biomass combustion （25.5% and 13.8%, respectively）, fuel oil combustion （19.0% and 11.2%, respectively）, road traffic （ 17.7% and 12.6%, respectively）, and the metal industry （ 10.6% and 7.0%, respectively）. Anthropogenic sources clearly contributed most to PM2.5 but natural sources contributed most to PM2.5-10.

Novel targeting approaches and signaling pathways of colorectal cancer: An insight

Colorectal cancer(CRC) is the third most common cancer of mortality in the world. Chemotherapy based treatment leads to innumerable side effects as it delivers the anticancer drug to both normal cells besides cancer cells. Sonic Hedgehog(SHH), Wnt wingless-type mouse mammary tumor virus/β-catenin, transforming growth factor-β/SMAD, epidermal growth factor receptor and Notch are the main signaling pathways involved in the progression of CRC. Targeted therapies necessitate information regarding the particular aberrant pathways. Advancements in gene therapies have resulted in the recognition of novel therapeutic targets related with these signal-transduction cascades. CRC is a stepwise process where mutations occur over the time and activation of oncogenes and deactivation of tissue suppressor genes takes place. Genetic changes which are responsible for the induction of carcinogenesis include loss of heterozygosity in tumor suppressor genes such as adenomatous polyposis coli, mutation or deletion of genes like p53 and K-ras. Therefore, many gene-therapy approaches like gene correction, virusdirected enzyme-prodrug therapy, immunogenetic manipulation and virotherapy are currently being explored. Development of novel strategies for the safe and effective delivery of drugs to the cancerous site is the need of the hour. This editorial accentuates different novel strategies with emphasis on gene therapy and immunotherapy for the management of CRC.

The spectrum and etiologies of lower urinary tract symptoms in postmenopausal women

Background:Although the prevalence of lower urinary tract symptoms(LUTS)is high in the female population,it is even higher in post-menopausal *** frequency,severity,and etiology of LUTS vary among populations and *** study aimed to define the characteristics of LUTS in postmenopausal women and their underlying *** and methods:Overall,74 postmenopausal patients presenting with LUTS in the urological outpatient department were included in the study.A detailed evaluation of LUTS and their underlying etiologies was *** were divided into 2 groups based on age(65 years),and the variation in different factors was compared across the *** were compared using the t test and 1-way analysis of ***:Nocturia was the most common symptom(89.2%)followed by frequency(83.8%).Among voiding LUTS,the most common was a weak stream(63.5%).Frequency,nocturia,urgency,urge urinary incontinence(UI),stress UI,and nocturnal enuresis were more common in patients older than 65 *** and urge UI were recognized to be the most bothersome symptoms by 37%of the study population followed by straining(32%).The mean storage scores,incontinence scores,and quality of life(QoL)scores for patients younger than 65 years and 65 years or older were 6.9 and 8.5(p<0.01),1.8 and 4.1(p<0.01),4.9 and 6.1,*** most common diagnosis was bladder outlet obstruction due to urethral/meatal stenosis(40.5%)followed by an overactive bladder(32.4%),urinary tract infection(10.8%),cystocele(8.1%),urethral prolapse(4.1%),and urethral caruncle(4.1%).Conclusions:Storage LUTS were the most common and increased in both frequency and severity with *** QoL was also more severely affected in older postmenopausal *** outlet obstruction due to meatal with or without distal urethral stenosis was the most common underlying cause of LUTS followed by an overactive *** bladder had the most severe impact on pat

Electromagnetic design and performance of conduction cooled superconducting magnet for spoke resonator cryomodule for Proton Improvement Plan(PIP)-II

The Proton Improvement Plan(PIP)-II project is part of Fermilab’s upgrade of its proton accelerator complex,to provide a powerful,high-intensity proton beam to the laboratory’s upcoming research *** project includes an 800 MeV superconducting(SC)linear accelerator(linac),with five flavours of cavities and *** medium energy section of the linac contains two types of superconducting Single Spoke Resonator(SSR)RF cavities(SSR1 and SSR2),which are interleaved with strong solenoid focusing lenses.A unified design of the solenoid has been developed,with one solenoid design satisfying both SSR1 and SSR2 *** integral focusing strength requirement of 4.5 T^(2)m with a full width half maximum(FWHM)of 180 mm indicates the peak field strength∼6.8 T in the magnet aperture,necessitating a superconducting design within the limits of NbTi as magnet wire *** are complex combined units that include one focusing solenoid with bucking coils to minimize fringe fields and four corrector coils each,with independent current leads to produce dipole and quadrupole *** simplify the current lead design and reduce complexity,the project opted conduction cooling for these magnets,thus requiring a redesign compared to previous prototype bath cooled *** designs for high energy accelerators adopt bath cooled design of the solenoid focusing lenses for medium energy *** present design explores a unique and technically superior solution for the cryomodule operation by decoupling the magnet and cavity cooling to certain *** in cryomodule operations shall be studied after integration of magnets in the Linac *** we discuss the design requirements,challenges,electromagnetic design,superconducting wire selection and the results from magnetic measurements of the first pre-series units.

The investigation of medical and psychosocial problems of geriatric population in the urban area of Madhya Pradesh in India

Globally, there are an estimated 605 million people aged 60 years and above. Improvements in health care facilities have brought longevity, which is considered to be one of the greatest achievements of the 20th century. Objectives: To assess the morbidity pattern in geriatric people. Methodology: A community based cross sectional study. Results: Out of 208 aged 91 (43.7%) were males, 117 (56.25%) were females. Maximum number of males and females were from the age group 60 - 64 years. 117 (56.25%) had chronic problems and 15 (7.2%) acute. Musculo skeleton problem was the commonest (63%) complaint both in males and females, followed by cardio vascular problem (44%). Diabetes mellitus was more common in males than females and hypertension was more common in females than males. Chronic bronchitis was the commonest respiratory disorder in males (8.7%). Total 20 (9.6%) had psychological problems (depression), psychological problems more common in males 11 (12%) than females 9 (7.7%) Conclusion: The present study showed that chronic morbidity in elderly was significantly higher (56.3%) than acute (7.2%), most commonly affected system by chronic morbidity was musculo-skeletal followed by cardio vascular (CVS) and gastrointestinal (GIT). Psychological problems were more common in males (12%) than in females (7.7%). Psychological problems were more in lower socio-economic class-(V) than higher Class [1].

Paragangliomas are tumours which arise in extra adrenal autonomic paraganglia and have the ability to secrete catecholamines. Their anaesthetic management is the same as that of a case of pheochromocytoma, but in an undiagnosed case like our patient, unexpected eventful encounter in the operating theatre may lead to life threatening complications during surgical resection warranting immediate management and thus posing a real challenge to the skill of an anaesthesiologist.
