Being sessile,plants have evolved sophisticated mechanisms to balance between growth and defense to survive in the harsh *** transition from growth to defense is commonly achieved by factors,such as protein kinases(Pks)and transcription factors,that initiate signal transduction and regulate specialized *** produce an array of lineage-specific specialized metabolites for chemical defense and stress *** of these molecules are also used by humans as ***,many of these defense-responsive metabolites are toxic to plant cells and inhibitory to growth and *** have,thus,evolved complex regulatory networks to balance the accumulation of the toxic *** of external stimuli is a vital part of the regulatory *** kinase-mediated signaling activates a series of defense responses by phosphorylating the target pro-teins and translating the stimulus into downstream cellular *** biosynthesis of specialized metabolites is triggered when plants perceive stimuli,a possible connection between Pks and spe-cial ized meta bolism is well ***,the roles of Pks in plant specialized metabolism have not received much attention until ***,we summarize the recent advances in understanding Pks in plant specialized *** aim to highlight how the stimulatory signals are transduced,leading to the biosynthesis of corresponding *** discuss the post-translational regulation of specialized metabolism and provide insights into the mechanisms by which plants respond to the external *** addition,we propose possible strategies to increase the production of plant spe-cial ized metabolites in biotechnological applications using Pks.

Numerical modelling of post-failure behaviors of coal specimens

A modelling approach consisting of best-fit relations to estimate the post-yield strength parameters is presented for simulating post-peak behavior beyond the point of residual strength of coal pillars having different w/h *** model was developed based on back-analysis of the complete stress-strain behavior of specimens belonging to six different Indian coal seams with different w/h ratios of 0.5 *** was found that the simultaneous degradation of the cohesion and friction angle of the Mohr-Coulomb rock material characterizes the post-peak strength behavior of the *** resulting expressions are simplistic as they require parameters that can be easily determined using uniaxial and triaxial compression ***,the developed model was validated by simulating the triaxial tests of coal specimens with different sizes under varying confining stresses and comparing its findings with the published test *** study showed that its implementation in the numerical model could reproduce laboratory-observed mechanical response,deformation behavior,and failure mechanism very closely.

The spectrum and etiologies of lower urinary tract symptoms in postmenopausal women

Background:Although the prevalence of lower urinary tract symptoms(LUTS)is high in the female population,it is even higher in post-menopausal *** frequency,severity,and etiology of LUTS vary among populations and *** study aimed to define the characteristics of LUTS in postmenopausal women and their underlying *** and methods:Overall,74 postmenopausal patients presenting with LUTS in the urological outpatient department were included in the study.A detailed evaluation of LUTS and their underlying etiologies was *** were divided into 2 groups based on age(65 years),and the variation in different factors was compared across the *** were compared using the t test and 1-way analysis of ***:Nocturia was the most common symptom(89.2%)followed by frequency(83.8%).Among voiding LUTS,the most common was a weak stream(63.5%).Frequency,nocturia,urgency,urge urinary incontinence(UI),stress UI,and nocturnal enuresis were more common in patients older than 65 *** and urge UI were recognized to be the most bothersome symptoms by 37%of the study population followed by straining(32%).The mean storage scores,incontinence scores,and quality of life(QoL)scores for patients younger than 65 years and 65 years or older were 6.9 and 8.5(p<0.01),1.8 and 4.1(p<0.01),4.9 and 6.1,*** most common diagnosis was bladder outlet obstruction due to urethral/meatal stenosis(40.5%)followed by an overactive bladder(32.4%),urinary tract infection(10.8%),cystocele(8.1%),urethral prolapse(4.1%),and urethral caruncle(4.1%).Conclusions:Storage LUTS were the most common and increased in both frequency and severity with *** QoL was also more severely affected in older postmenopausal *** outlet obstruction due to meatal with or without distal urethral stenosis was the most common underlying cause of LUTS followed by an overactive *** bladder had the most severe impact on pat

BACkGROUND Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases independently of other risk ***,data on its effect on cardiovascular outcomes in coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)hospitalizations with varied obesity levels is *** management and patient care depend on understanding COVID-19 admission results in NAFLD patients with varying obesity *** To study the in-hospital outcomes in COVID-19 patients with NAFLD by severity of *** COVID-19 hospitalizations with NAFLD were identified using International Classification of Disease-10 CM codes in the 2020 National Inpatient Sample *** and Obesity Classes Ⅰ,Ⅱ,and Ⅲ(body mass index 30-40)were *** adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events(MACCE)(all-cause mortality,acute myocardial infarction,cardiac arrest,and stroke)were compared between *** regression analyses adjusted for sociodemographic,hospitalization features,and *** Our analysis comprised 13260 hospitalizations,7.3% of which were overweight,24.3% Class Ⅰ,24.1% Class Ⅱ,and 44.3% Class Ⅲ.Class Ⅲ obesity includes younger patients,blacks,females,diabetics,and hypertensive *** multivariable logistic analysis,Class Ⅲ obese patients had higher risks of MACCE,inpatient mortality,and respiratory failure than Class Ⅰ obese *** Ⅱ obesity showed increased risks of MACCE,inpatient mortality,and respiratory failure than Class I,but not *** obesity classes had non-significant risks of MACCE,inpatient mortality,and respiratory failure compared to the overweight *** Class Ⅲ obese NAFLD COVID-19 patients had a greater risk of adverse outcomes than class Ⅰ.Using the overweight group as the reference,unfavorable outcomes were not significantly *** obesity had a greater risk of MACCE regardless of the referent group(overweight or Class Ⅰ obese)compared to overweight NAFLD patients admitte

Dynamic Behaviour of Pond Ash Mixed with Coir and Crumb Rubber

An experimental program was conducted to determine the dynamic properties of pond ash(PA)and pond ash mixed with admixtures like crumb rubber(CR)and coir fiber(CF)which are wastes of different *** CR and CF were mixed separately with pond ash in a percentage ranging from 0%–20%at an interval of 5%and 0%–2%at an interval of 0.5%by weight of pond ash,*** properties(Shear modulus,Number of cycles to initiate liquefaction,Degradation index and Damping ratio)for pond ash mixes were determined using strain-controlled cyclic tri-axial *** shear strain was kept constant at 1.2%and the frequency varied from 0.4 to 1 *** resistance improves when crumb rubber is added to pond ash,however adding Coir fiber to pond ash has essentially no effect on the number of cycles required to initiate *** dynamic shear modulus decreases when crumb rubber was mixed in pond ash whereas when coir fiber is added to pond ash,the dynamic shear modulus increases significantly.A mix of PA,CR,and CF was also tried to balance the number of cycles required to initiate liquefaction and shear *** mixed sample in the proportion of PA(84%)+CR(15)+CF(1%)can be termed a balanced mix as the number of cycles to initiate liquefaction was more than all PA-CF mixes and also the shear modulus was more than all PA-CR *** ratio increases with increasing frequency of loading(0.4 to 1 Hz).

Effect of COVID-19 pandemic on blood transfusion service:an experience from a regional blood transfusion center

The unforeseen and uncertain life-threatening situation of the COVID-19 pandemic dramatically affected all areas of the human daily work *** study was designed to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on blood transfusion services and discuss the adopted confrontation measures for uninterrupted blood supply during the pandemic *** data on blood donation,blood component preparation,and issue from January 2019 to December 2022 were collected from the inventory registers of the RBTC,Delhi,*** to the non-pandemic year 2019,during the year 2020,all variables decreased *** observed maximum decrease in variables such as blood collection(–79.16%)in the month of October,blood issue(–71.61%)in the month of August,random donor platelets(RDP)preparation(–98.09%)in the month of October,RDP issue(–86.08%)in the month of September,fresh frozen plasma(FFP)preparation(–100%)in the month of October,and FFP issue(–96.08%)in the month of July with an annual decrease of–45.52%,–42.87%,–33.00%,–59.79%,–40.98%,and–54.48%,respectively,as compared to year *** to year 2020,in year 2021,the annual increase in blood collection,blood issue,FFP preparation,FFP issue,RDP preparation,and RDP issue was+50.20%,+21.68%,+65.31%,+78.52%,+116.23%,and+213.30%,*** study results show that the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected blood transfusion services at our blood *** adopted coping strategies to maintain the safe and uninterrupted blood transfusion chain at our blood bank gave us lessons for future preparedness if faced with a similar situation.
