Microalgal bioremediation of food-processing industrial wastewater under mixotrophic conditions： Kinetics and scaleup approach

The Chlorella microalgae were mixotrophically cultivated in an unsterilized and unfikered raw foodprocessing industrial wastewater. both inorganic carbon （CO2-air） and organic carbon （wastewater） were provided simultaneously for microalgae growth. The aim of the study is to find out the utilization rates of total organic carbon （TOC） and chemical oxygen demand （COD） under mixotrophic conditions for a given waste water. About 90% reduction in TOC and COD were obtained for all dilutions of wastewater. Over 60% of nitrate and 40% of phosphate were consumed by microalgae from concentrated raw wastewater. This study shows that microalgae can use both organic and inorganic sources of carbon in more or less quantity under mixotrophic conditions. The growth of microalgae in food-processing industrial wastewater with all studied dilution factors, viz. zero （raw）, 1.6 （dilution A）, and 5 （dilution b） suggests that the freshwater requirement could be reduced substantially （20%-60%）. The degradation kinetics also suggests that the microalgae cultivation on a high COD wastewater is feasible and scalable.

A multiplicative Gauss-Newton minimization algorithm:Theory and application to exponential functions

Multiplicative calculus(MUC)measures the rate of change of function in terms of ratios,which makes the exponential functions significantly linear in the framework of ***,a generally non-linear optimization problem containing exponential functions becomes a linear problem in *** this as motivation,this paper lays mathematical foundation of well-known classical Gauss-Newton minimization(CGNM)algorithm in the framework of *** paper formulates the mathematical derivation of proposed method named as multiplicative Gauss-Newton minimization(MGNM)method along with its convergence *** proposed method is generalized for n number of variables,and all its theoretical concepts are authenticated by simulation *** case studies have been conducted incorporating multiplicatively-linear and non-linear exponential *** simulation results,it has been observed that proposed MGNM method converges for 12972 points,out of 19600 points considered while optimizing multiplicatively-linear exponential function,whereas CGNM and multiplicative Newton minimization methods converge for only 2111 and 9922 points,***,for a given set of initial value,the proposed MGNM converges only after 2 iterations as compared to 5 iterations taken by other methods.A similar pattern is observed for multiplicatively-non-linear exponential ***,it can be said that proposed method converges faster and for large range of initial values as compared to conventional methods.

Differential fate of metabolism of a disperse dye by microorganisms Galactomyces geotrichum and brevibacillus laterosporus and their consortium GG-bL

The present work aims to evaluate brown 3 REL degrading potential of developed microbial consortium GG-bL using two microbial cultures, Galactomyces geotrichum MTCC 1360 （GG） and brevibaciUus laterosporus MTCC 2298 （bL）. Microbial consortium GG-bL showed 100% decolorization of a dye brown 3 REL, while individually G. geotrichum MTCC 1360 and b. laterosporus MTCC 2298 showed 26% and 86% decolorization under aerobic condition （shaking） respectively. Measurements of biochemical oxygen demand （bOD）（76%） and chemical oxygen demand （COD）（68%） were done after decolorization by consortium GG-bL. No induction in activities of oxidoreductive enzymes found in G. geotrichum while b. laterosporus showed induction of veratryl alcohol oxidase, Nicotineamide adenine dinucleotide-dichlorophenol indophenol （NADH-DCIP） reductase and riboflavin reductase indicating their role in dye metabolism. Consortium GG-bL showed induction in the activities of laccase, veratryl alcohol oxidase, tyrosinase, NADH-DCIP reductase and riboflavin reductase. Two different sets of induced enzymes from G. geotrichum and b. laterosporus work together in consortium GG-bL resulting in faster degradation of dye. The degradation of brown 3 REL was analyzed using high performance thin layer chromatography （HPTLC）, high performance liquid chromatography （HPLC）, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FT-IR） and gas chromatography mass spectroscopy （GC-MS）. Phytotoxicity study revealed that metabolites formed after degradation was significantly less toxic in nature.
