Determinants of Modern Contraceptive Uptake among the Youth in Akuse Township in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, Ghana

Background: Access to safe and effective contraception is crucial for sexual and reproductive health to be at its best. This allows improved pregnancy results and the avoidance of unintended births. Teenagers’ views on using contraceptives are influenced by the information available at their disposal. The study assessed the influential factors affecting the utilization of modern contraceptives among the youth in Akuse in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Methods: The data for the study were gathered from 378 consented youth aged 15 - 24 years using a quantitative cross-sectional study design and a well-structured questionnaire. Person’s Chi-square test was adopted to measure the association between the outcome variable and selected independent variables. Logistic regression models were utilized to measure the odds of the factors influencing modern contraceptive use among the respondents. Results: The results of the study suggested a high knowledge level of contraceptives;however, the prevalence of utilization was low. The level of education and age were factors found to influence the uptake of contraceptives. A bivariate analysis to examine the association between selected socio-demographic variables revealed that educational level (p = 0.044), religious affiliation (p = 0.002), and ethnicity (p = 0.016) were statistically associated with modern contraceptive use among the respondents. All other tested demographic variables including the age groups, gender, marital status, and residential status proved otherwise at the observed p-values greater than the 0.05 threshold. Respondents who indicated staying with partners were 6.79 times more likely to use contraceptives compared to their counterparts staying with a parent, after controlling for all other covariates. Influence of parameters on the microstructure of a duplex stainless steel joint welded by a GMAW welding process

Duplex stainless steels（Dsss） are widely used in industry for their desirable properties. Any fusion welding technique modifies the microstructure and, consequently, the properties of the material. This paper presents a parametric study of the variables that determine the energy contribution（current, voltage and welding speed） and the structural modifications produced during gas metal arc welding. The analysis comprises metallographic study,phase balance, dimensioning of the weld beads and tensile and hardness tests. The influence of the variables studied on the thermal cycles obtained（temperatures reached and cooling rate） was determined by using a finite element model. The results showed that, in addition to the indicated parameters, the parameter power transfer per volume（W/m3） and the geometry in the bead must be controlled due to their influence on the heat flow distribution and phase balance.

Effect of processing and accelerated storage on the volatile composition and sensory profile of a tomato soup

The volatile and sensory profile of pasteurized(95℃,18 min)and sterilized(120℃,14 min)tomato soup and its changes at accelerated storage conditions(37℃and 42℃)were identified,characterized,and correlated by predictive *** led to more profound changes over storage compared to pasteurisation,showing enhanced levels of‘dark'odour,‘burnt'flavour,and‘complexity',while pasteurized soup had more pronounced‘green'odour,‘vegetables'flavour,‘harmony',and‘freshness'.Over time,‘dark'and‘burnt'significantly increased for sterilized soups,whereas‘green'decreased significantly only for sterilized soup stored at 42℃.The changes of‘dark',‘green',‘off-flavour,‘burnt',‘har mony',and‘freshness'were associated with formation of furans(furfural and 2-acetyl-5-methylfuran),and decline of unsaturated aldehydes like E-2-octenal and E,E-2,*** compounds were identified to represent potential shelf-life markers,yet more studies on their odour activity in the tomato soup matrix are necessary to understand their contribution to the sensory *** construction of partial least squares models allowed the prediction of‘green',‘off-flavour',‘burnt',and‘freshness'based on selected *** models will be important tools in the process of predicting the end of shelf life,but need to be supplemented with consumer acceptability levels.

The scientific community has focused the agenda of studies of climate change on lower-end warming and simple risk analyses,because more realistic complex assessments of risk are more difficult,the benchmark of the international targets is the Paris Agreement goal of limiting warming to science is to try to avoid alarmism[1].Current fires,prolonged droughts,floods and heat waves,together with the consequent food insecurity,civil unrest and migrations,however,are opening the eyes not only of most scientists but also of most people all over the world to the need for considering,at least,the potential catastrophic effects of the collapse of ecosystems and society due to the current emergency of climate change.
