Prediction of subsidence risk by FMEA using artificial neural network and fuzzy inference system

Construction of metro tunnels in dense and crowded urban areas is faced with many risks, such as sub- sidence. The purpose of this paper was the prediction of subsidence risk by failure mode and effect anal- ysis （FMEA） and fuzzy inference system （FIS）. Fuzzy theory will be able to model uncertainties. Fuzzy FMEA provides a tool that can work in a better way with vague concepts and without sufficient informa- tion than conventional FMEA. In this paper, S and D are obtained from fuzzy rules and 0 is obtained from artificial neural network （ANN）. FMEA is performed by developing a fuzzy risk priority number （FRPN）. The FRPN for two stations in Tehran No.4 subway line is 3.1 and 5.5, respectively. To investigate the suit- ability of this approach, the predictions by FMEA have been compared with actual data. The results show that this method can be useful in the prediction of subsidence risk in urban tunnels.

New Model for Environmental Impact Assessment of Tunneling Projects

Designers of infrastructure are aware that the government, owners and users become more and more concerned about negative environmental impacts of tunnels, so environmental assessment of tunnels are becoming an issue in the process of tunnel design. In this study, to assess tunnels in construction and operation phases, the matrix method, through which the “Impacting Factors” and “Environmental Components” are determined, is also outlined. The affected environment was divided into thirteen components, such as Ecology, Surface water, Air quality, etc. In this paper, matrix method was applied to evaluate the impact of tunneling in three typical tunnels and compare them with standard diagrams of Environmental Components that were derived and introduced. These tunnels were: Urban Utility tunnel in Tehran, Eurasia tunnel in Istanbul and Tsuen Wan drainage tunnel in Hong Kong. Based on the acquired results, the present paper finally concluded that among three cases, Tsuen Wan drainage tunnel affects the environment in construction phase more than others, while Eurasia tunnel effects on air quality are more significant in operation phase.

Analytical Solutions to Definite Integrals for Combinations of Legendre, Bessel and Trigonometric Functions Encountered in Propagation and Scattering Problems in Spherical Coordinates

Mie theory is a rigorous solution to scattering problems in spherical coordinate system. The first step in applying Mie theory is expansion of some arbitrary incident field in terms of spherical harmonics fields in terms of spherical which in turn requires evaluation of certain definite integrals whose integrands are products of Bessel functions, associated Legendre functions and periodic functions. Here we present analytical results for two specific integrals that are encountered in expansion of arbitrary fields in terms of summation of spherical waves. The analytical results are in terms of finite summations which include Lommel functions. A concise analytical expression is also derived for the special case of Lommel functions that arise, rendering expensive numerical integration or other iterative techniques unnecessary.

Investigating the Relationship Between Emotional Intelligence and Personality Types Among Nursing Candidates in Ardebil University, in Iran

Personality characteristics of each people are unique. It seems that these features of personality have an impact on emotional intelligence and ability to interact with people in a social environment. This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and personality types of nursing students. The research was descriptive and correlative. The study population consisted of Ardebil University of senior nursing candidates in 2011-2012. The study sample included 125 people. Assessment tools were the Bar-on Emotional Intelligence Inventory and MBTI （Myers-Briggs Type Indicator） personality type questionnaire. The data were analyzed by SPSS 20 （T-test, analysis of variance, Pearson correlation and multiple regression with significant level P〈0 .05）. Pearson correlation coefficients showed there is a significant inverse between variables extroversion-introversion and emotional intelligence with level of .01 （r=-522）. Therefore, personality characteristics impact on emotional intelligence of students. Thus, more research of emotional intelligence and personality characteristics is necessary at different levels to selection for nursing profession.
