Jordan is characterized by severe weather conditions, therefore great temporal and spatial variations in rainfall;runoff and evaporation amounts are expected. Water harvesting has been practiced in Jordan throughout history for both irrigation and household purposes. A major research project was carried out in the Jordanian Badia on site selection criteria for rain water harvesting systems based on the integration between indigenous knowledge and the use of Geo-informatics. This work was followed by conducting a geophysical and soil investigation for five potential sites. In this study, GIS was used to investigate the potential of having enough runoff in the five selected sites to establish water harvesting dams based on rainfall, evaporation data and catchments’ areas for the selected sites. It was found that the estimated runoff that could be harvested on annual basis at these sites varies between 0.2 Million Cubic Meters (MCM) in Alaasra site to 0.82 MCM in Al-Manareh (Al-Ghuliasi) site. This indicates that these sites have the potential for small scale water harvesting that could be utilized by local livestock owners in the area to water their livestock.

Background: A healthy normal skin is essential for a person’s physical and mental well being. It is an important aspect of their sexual attractiveness, a sense of well being and a sense of self confidence. Vitiligo is an acquired depigmentation disorder of skin affecting 1% - 4% of the world population. Neither life threatening nor symptomatic (except that depigmented patches burn easily when exposed to the sun) the effects of vitiligo can be cosmetically and psychologically devastating. Because the disease is still not understood, there is a plethora of different treatments approaches, but they are largely unsatisfactory from patient’s perspective. Objective: To report the outcomes from oral use of an infusion of leaves of Solanum paniculatum L., Jacaranda brasiliensis and Sonchus oleraceus for treatment of vitiligo. Ethical issues: Study approved by the Research Ethics Committee of Hospital Federal dos Servidores do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (CAAE: 32143314.9.0000.5252). All participants confirmed the condition of volunteer by signing the Informed Consent Form. Methods: From October 2014 to October 2015 twelve subjects consumed daily four glasses (800 ml) of proposed phytotherapeutic preparation. Results: All subjects were highly satisfied about their outcomes. Total depigmentation was considered as a positive outcome because it is cosmetically acceptable. Total depigmentation was observed in presence of 80% or more of depigmenteted patches. Conclusions: The phytotherapeutic preparation proposed is effective on treatment of depigmenteted patches in vitiligo.

旋转防喷器(RBOP)是欠平衡钻井中必不可少的安全保障设备,其中胶芯是旋转防喷器(RBOP)的关键部件和密封单元,其密封性能决定了旋转防喷器(RBOP)的密封能力。研究了旋转防喷器胶芯的工作机理及故障,依据国家标准和专利建立了胶芯的三维模型。通过分析研究,选择了适合胶芯材料的本构模型Yeoh模型,通过橡胶材料的单轴拉伸试验所获得的实验数据,使用ABAQUS软件拟合出本构模型的待定系数;在ABAQUS软件中建立钻杆与胶芯接触的三维力学模型,研究计算在不同井压下,钻杆与胶芯之间的接触压力大小和变形情况,得到了不同井口压力下,胶芯密封压力的变化规律——当井口压力逐渐增加时,胶芯内锥面开始发生变形,变形随压力的增加而增大,同时,内锥面和主密封面接触发生应力集中的现象;分析了井口压力为0时,钻杆接头通过胶芯内孔时,胶芯接触压力情况,得到了接触压力在胶芯内锥面各个节点的变化规律,为胶芯的失效分析和设计制造提供了理论依据。

Background Distal pancreatic carcinoma is one of the most lethal cancers largely due to its high incidence of distant *** study aims to assess the prognostic value of splenic-vasculature involvement in resected distal pancreatic *** In this retrospective study,we collected the clinicopathologic information of 454 patients with pancreatic cancer and performed univariate and multivariate analyses to identify factors associated with progression-free survival(PFS)and overall survival(OS),with an emphasis on the prognostic value of splenic-artery and-vein *** Univariate analysis revealed that larger tumor size,non-intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm(non-IPMN)-associated adenocarcinoma,poor differentiation,stage pT3,nodal metastasis,lymphovascular invasion,perineural invasion,and pathologic and radiographic evidence of splenic-vein invasion were significantly associated with shorter PFS and OS(all P<0.05).Multivariate analysis confirmed non-IPMN-associated adenocarcinoma,stage pT3,stage pN1-2,and postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy as independent risk factors for both PFS and OS,and larger tumor size and radiographic evidence of splenic-artery invasion as predictors of PFS *** Guidelines should be developed for a uniform approach with regard to the examination and reporting of the status of the splenic vasculature when dealing with distal-pancreatic-cancer specimens.

Background:The National Comprehensive Cancer Network(NCCN)guidelines recommend pelvic lymph node dissection(PLND)in NCCN high-and intermediate-risk prostate cancer *** tested for PLND nonadherence(no-PLND)rates within the Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results(2010-2015).Materials and methods:We identified all radical prostatectomy patients who fulfilled the NCCN PLND guideline criteria(n=23,495).Nonadherence rates to PLND were tabulated and further stratified according to NCCN risk subgroups,race/ethnicity,geographic distribution,and year of ***:Overall,the no-PLND rate was 26%;it was 41%,25%,and 11%in the NCCN intermediate favorable,intermediate unfavorable,and high-risk prostate cancer patients,respectively(p<0.001).Overtime,the no-PLND rates declined in the overall cohort and within each NCCN risk *** exhibited the highest no-PLND rate(49%),whereas New Jersey exhibited the lowest(15%).Finally,no-PLND race/ethnicity differences were recorded only in the NCCN intermediate unfavorable subgroup,where Asians exhibited the lowest no-PLND rate(20%)versus African Americans(27%)versus Whites(26%)versus Hispanic-Latinos(25%).Conclusions:The lowest no-PLND rates were recorded in the NCCN high-risk patients followed by NCCN intermediate unfavorable and favorable risk in that *** findings suggest that unexpectedly elevated differences in no-PLND rates warrant further *** all the NCCN risk subgroups,the no-PLND rates decreased over time.

Repellent and Fumigant Effects of Essential Oil from Clove Buds Syzygium aromaticum L. against Tribofium castaneum （Herbest）（Coleoptera： Tenebrionidae）

Essential oil from clove buds Syzygium aromaticum L. Merr. ＆ Perry （Myrtaceae） was extracted using petroleum ether in Soxhlet apparatus. The resultant oil contained eugenol （48.92%）, caryophyllene （18.55%）, α-caryophyllene （3.25%）, eugenol acetate （23%）, cis-13-docosenamide （3.2 1%）, presenting more than 96% of the oil. This oil was examined as a fumigant and repellent agent against adults of the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum. Data showed that various concentrations of the oil have revealed dramatic repellent activity against the tested insect, where it gave 100% repellency by 1.0, 0.8, and 0.2% clove oil at 4, 8, 10 min, respectively. The RTs0 and RT95 were 1.1 and 8.0 min at 0.2% and 0.4, 2.6 min at 0.8%, respectively. In addition, fumigation assay has also exhibited strong fumigant activity toward the adults of T. castaneum. At 100 μL oil/L air, mortality was 75, 80 and 100% after 6, 7, and 8 days exposure period with LCs0 and LC95 17 and 70 μL/L air, respectively. The utilization of clove oil for its potential effects against stored product insect is discussed.
