Peripheral nerve injury impairs motor, sensory, and autonomic function, incurring substantial financial costs and diminished quality of life. For large nerve gaps, proximal lesions, or chronic nerve injury, the prognosis for recovery is particularly poor, even with autografts, the current gold standard for treating small to moderate nerve gaps. In vivo elongation of intact proximal stumps towards the injured distal stumps of severed peripheral nerves may offer a promising new strategy to treat nerve injury. This review describes several nerve lengthening strategies, including a novel internal fixator device that enables rapid and distal reconnection of proximal and distal nerve stumps.

End-to-end repair under no or low tension leads to improved outcomes for transected nerves with short gaps,compared to repairs with a ***,grafts are typically used to enable a tension-free repair for moderate to large gaps,as excessive tension can cause repairs to fail and catastrophically impede *** this study,we tested the hypothesis that unloading the repair interface by redistributing tension away from the site of repair is a safe and feasible strategy for end-to-end repair of larger nerve ***,we tested the hypothesis that such an approach does not adversely affect structural and functional *** this study,we used a rat sciatic nerve injury model to compare the integrity of repair and several regenerative outcomes following end-to-end repairs of nerve gaps of increasing *** addition,we proposed the use of a novel implantable device to safely repair end-to-end repair of larger nerve gaps by redistributing tension away from the repair *** data suggest that redistriubution of tension away from the site of repair enables safe end-to-end repair of larger gap *** addition,structural and functional measures of regeneration were equal or enhanced in nerves repaired under tension – with or without a tension redistribution device – compared to tension-free *** that repair integrity is maintained,end-to-end repairs under tension should be considered as a reasonable surgical *** animal experiments were performed under the approval of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee of University of California,San Diego(Protocol S11274).

Seasonal Abundance and Diversity of birds of Prey and Owls in Al Wathba Wetland Reserve in Abu Dhabi, UAE

Inland wetlands in Abu Dhabi Emirate are wintering and stopover sites for migratory birds of prey. We conducted long-term regular monitoring surveys in Al Wathba Wetland Reserve (AWWR) from January 1995 to December 2022. both diurnal and occasionally nocturnal surveys were undertaken to record the migratory raptors and owls in the Wetland Reserve. During the study, a total of 1282 regular monitoring visits were undertaken and 27 species of diurnal raptors and owls representing five families and three orders were detected. These represent 57% of the total species of birds of prey recorded in the UAE. Overall, 63% of all the species that we observed were Accipitriformes followed by 26% Falconiformes and 11% Strigiformes. We found that changes in mean daily temperature have a positive effect on raptor species diversity and abundance in the Wetland Reserve. The species encounter rate was higher in low temperature as compared to high temperature and overall regression equation was statistically significant F (4, 1126) = 8.49), p = 0.00). However, the numbers of raptors did not vary significantly across the years (p = 0.51). Western Marsh-harrier (Circus aeruginosus) and Greater Spotted Eagle (Clanga clanga) were recorded to be the most abundant species in the wetland reserve followed by Common Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus). However, the encounter rate of globally threatened Greater Spotted Eagle was detected to have significantly decreased since 2016. Moreover, 63% of the species detected were uncommon and rarely recorded such as 1) Saker Falcon 2) Lanner Falcon 3) Long-eared Owl & Merlin, which were the rare records from the wetland reserve. Furthermore, 27 years of regular monitoring in the wetland have yielded diverse diurnal raptors and owl fauna (H) = 0.83, (E) = 1.43 (Shannon Diversity Index). The results demonstrate that long-term monitoring surveys in arid environments are essential to determine the trends in the raptor populations and to document rare and globally

Approximate analytical bound-state solutions of the Dirac particle in the fields of attractive and repulsive Rosen–Morse （RM） potentials including the Coulomb-like tensor （CLT） potential are obtained for arbitrary spin–orbit quantum number κ. The Pekeris approximation is used to deal with the spin–orbit coupling terms κ（κ ± 1）r 2 . In the presence of exact spin and pseudospin （p-spin） symmetries, the energy eigenvalues and the corresponding normalized two-component wave functions are found by using the parametric generalization of the Nikiforov–Uvarov （NU） method. The numerical results show that the CLT interaction removes degeneracies between the spin and p-spin state doublets.

We study the effects of the perpendicular magnetic and Aharonov-bohm （Ab） flux fields on the energy levels of a two-dimensional （2D） Klein Gordon （KG） particle subjected to an equal scalar and vector pseudo-harmonic oscillator （PHO）. We calculate the exact energy eigenvalues and normalized wave functions in terms of chemical potential param- eter, magnetic field strength, Ab flux field, and magnetic quantum number by means of the Nikiforov Uvarov （NU） method. The non-relativistic limit, PHO, and harmonic oscillator solutions in the existence and absence of external fields are also obtained.

Approximate analytical solutions of the Dirac equation for Tietz-Hua （TH） potential including Coulomb-like tensor （CLT） potential with arbitrary spin-orbit quantum number K are obtained within the Pekeris approximation scheme to deal with the spin-orbit coupling terms K（K± 1）r^-2. Under the exact spin and pseudospin symmetric limitation, bound state energy eigenvalues and associated unnormalized two-component wave functions of the Dirac particle in the field of both attractive and repulsive TH potential with tensor potential are found using the parametric Nikiforov-Uvarov （NU） method. The cases of the Morse oscillator with tensor potential, the generalized Morse oscillator with tensor potential, and the non-relativistic limits have been investigated.

With the advancement of Communication,Navigation and Surveillance(CNS)technolo-gies such as space-based Automatic Dependent Surveillance-broadcast/Contract(ADS-b/C),large separation minima may be reduced in procedural *** is of great significance to know the upper limit of the Reduced Separation Minima(RSM)for a procedural airspace and the corre-sponding consequences on collision risk with specifics of the advanced ADS-b and control interven-tion *** this work,an interactive software is first developed for collision risk *** software integrates the International Civil Aviation Organization(ICAO)collision risk models for lateral and longitudinal collision risk calculation for the Singapore procedural *** demonstrate that the lateral and longitudinal collision risk of Singapore procedural airspace with respect to current control procedures meets the ICAO Target Level of Safety(TLS)***,the feasibility of reducing the horizontal separations implemented in the Singapore pro-cedural airspace with respect to advanced CNS techniques is *** is found that if advanced CNS technologies are applied,then the current 50-NM lateral and longitudinal separa-tion standards can be reduced to 22 NM(1 NM=1.825 km)and 20 NM,respectively,to meet the TLS standards based on current demand.A method is then devised to expand the traffic demand by p for p∈[10%,200%].It is found that the minimum lateral and longitudinal separa-tions can be reduced from 50 NM to be within the range of[23,31]NM,and 20 NM,respectively,for p∈[10%,200%],while the collision risk still meets the TLS standards.
