Characterization of volatile organic compounds in grafted tomato plants upon potyvirus necrotic infection

A headspace solid-phase microextraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(HS-SPME/GC-MS)method was used to study the volatile organic compounds(VOCs)associated with the differential immune response of tomato plants infected with the recombinant strain of potato virus Y(PVY^(C)-to),necrogenic to *** was carried out in UC82(UC),a virus susceptible tomato variety,comparing the same UC plants grafted or not onto a virus tolerant tomato ecotype,Manduria(Ma);the three types of samples used for the GC-MS analysis were mock-inoculated UC/Ma plants,UC/Ma+PVY^(C)-to and UC+PVY^(C)-to plants;the VOCs obtained were *** from symptomatic PVY^(C)-to-infected UC plants showed a VOCs composition enriched in alcohols,fatty acid derivates,benzenoids,and salicylic acid derivatives,while in mock-inoculated UC/Ma plants VOCs were mainly characterized by methyl ester *** VOC profile was in line with RNAseq data analyses,denoting that PVY^(C)-to viral RNA accumulation and disease symptoms induce the specific transcriptional activation of genes involved in VOCs ***,principal component analysis highlighted that VOCs of PVY^(C)-to-infected and mock-inoculated grafted plants were much closer each other than that of symptomatic PVY^(C)-to-infected non-grafted UC *** results suggest that VOCs profiles of tomato plants are related to the viral RNA accumulation,disease intensity and graft-derived tolerance to PVY^(C)-to infection.

Background Antimicrobial alternatives are urgently needed,including for poultry production *** this study,we tested the potential broad-range antimicrobial alternative peracetic acid,delivered in feed via the hydrolysis of encapsulated precursors through a 28-day study using 375 Ross 308 broiler *** tested two peracetic acid concentrations,30 and 80 mg/kg on birds housed on re-used litter,and we evaluated the impact of both levels on gut microbial communities,bacterial concentration,antimicrobial resistance genes relative abundance and growth performance when compared to control birds housed on either clean or re-used *** Body weight gain and feed conversion ratio improved in peracetic acid fed *** d 28,birds given 30 mg/kg of peracetic acid had a decreased Firmicutes and an increased Proteobacteria abundance in the jejunum,accompanied by an increase in Bacillus,Flavonifractor and Rombustia in the caeca,and a decreased abundance of tetracycline resistance *** given 80 mg/kg of peracetic acid had greater caecal abundance of macrolides lincosamides and streptogramins resistance *** performance on clean litter was reduced compared to reused litter,which concurred with increased caecal abundance of Blautia,decreased caecal abundance of Escherichia/Shigella,Anaerostipes and Jeotgalicoccus,and greater gene abundance of vancomycin,tetracycline,and macrolides resistance *** Peracetic acid could be used as a safe broad-spectrum antimicrobial alternative in *** precursors were able to reduce the bacterial concentration in the jejunum whilst promoting the proliferation of probiotic genera in the caeca,especially at the low peracetic acid concentrations tested,and improve growth ***,our findings offer further insights on potential benefits of rearing birds on re-used litter,suggesting that the latter could be associated with better performance and reduced antimicrobial resistance

In recent years,forest fires and maritime accidents have occurred frequently,which have had a bad impact on human production and ***,the development of seaplanes is an increasingly urgent *** is important to study the taxiing process of seaplanes for the development of seaplanes,which is a strong nonlinear fluid-structure interaction *** this paper,the smoothed particle hydrodynamics(SPH)method based on the Lagrangian framework is utilized to simulate the taxiing process of seaplanes,and the SPH results are compared with those of the finite volume method(FVM)based on the Eulerian *** results show that the SPH method can not only give the same accuracy as the FVM but also have a strong ability to capture the splashing waves in the taxiing process,which is quite meaningful for the subsequent study of the effect of a splash on other parts of the seaplane.

Electrocatalytic production of glycolic acid via oxalic acid reduction on titania debris supported on a TiO_(2)nanotube array

Electrodes prepared by anodic oxidation of Ti foils are robust and not toxic materials for the electrocatalytic reduction of oxalic acid to glycolic acid, allowing the development of a renewable energy-driven process for producing an alcoholic compound from an organic acid at low potential and room temperature. Coupled with the electrochemical synthesis of the oxalic acid from CO_(2),this process represents a new green and low-carbon path to produce added value chemicals from CO_(2). Various electrodes prepared by anodic oxidation of Ti foils were investigated. They were characterized by the presence of a TiO_(2) nanotube array together with the presence of small patches, debris, or TiO_(2) nanoparticles. The concentration of oxygen vacancies, the amount of Ti^(3+) measured by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) and the intensity of the anodic peak measured by cyclic voltammetry, were positively correlated with the achieved oxalic acid conversion and glycolic acid yield. The analysis of the results indicates the presence of small amorphous TiO_(2) nanoparticles(or surface patches or debris) interacting with TiO_(2) nanotubes, the sites responsible for the conversion of oxalic acid and glycolic acid yield. By varying this structural characteristic of the electrodes, it is possible to tune the glycolic acid to glyoxylic acid relative ratio. A best cumulative Faradaic efficiency(FE) of about 84% with FE to glycolic acid around 60% and oxalic conversion about 30% was observed.

Even if the relationships between nutrition and inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)remain underexplored,the current literature is providing,day by day,much more evidence on the effects of various diets in both prevention and treatment of such *** dietary habits,together with other environmental factors such as pollution,breastfeeding,smoke,and/or antibiotics,are among the theoretical pathogenetic causes of IBD,whose multifactorial aetiology has been already *** some of these risk factors are potentially reversible,some others cannot be avoided,and efficient treatments become necessary to prevent IBD spread or ***,the drugs currently available for treatment of such disease provide low-to-no effect against the symptoms,making the illnesses still strongly *** nutrition and specific diets will prove to effectively interrupt the course of IBD has still to be clarified and,in this sense,further research concerning the applications of such dietary interventions is still needed.

Virtual internal thermal work evaluation in the multifield variational statements for the analysis of multilayered structures

The principle of virtual displacements(PVDs)extended to elasto-thermo-electric problems includes virtual internal elastic,thermal and electric *** governing equations have displacement vector,temperature and electric potential as primary variables of the problem,and the elasto-thermal,elasto-electric and pure elastic problems are obtained as particular cases by deleting the appropriate contributions in the general elasto-thermo-electric variational *** most sensitive issue is given by thermal coupling because the thermo-elastic and thermo-electric effects change depending on the type of load and analysis considered(mechanical load,temperature or electric potential imposed and free vibration analysis).This feature means that the form of the virtual internal thermal work in such variational statements changes depending on the analysis performed and the load *** about multilayered plates and shells suggest the appropriate extension of the variational statement for each analysis,and they give an exhaustive explanation for several forms of the PVD proposed.

The ternary or quaternary layered compounds called MAB phases are frequently mentioned recently together with the well-known MAX ***,MAB phases are generally referred to layered transition metal borides,while MAX phases are layered transition metal carbides and nitrides with different types of crystal structure although they share the common nano-laminated structure *** order to prove that MAB phases can share the same type of crystal structure with MAX phases and extend the composition window of MAX phases from carbides and nitrides to borides,two new MAB phase compounds Zr_(2)SeB and Hf_(2)SeB with the Cr_(2)AlC-type MAX phase(211 phase)crystal structure were discovered by a combination of first-principles calculations and experimental verification in this ***-principles calculations predicted the stability and lattice parameters of the two new MAB phase compounds Zr_(2)SeB and Hf_(2)*** they were successfully synthesized by using a thermal explosion method in a spark plasma sintering(SPS)*** crystal structures of Zr_(2)SeB and Hf_(2)SeB were determined by a combination of the X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM).The lattice parameters of Zr_(2)SeB and Hf_(2)SeB are a=3.64398Å,c=12.63223Åand a=3.52280Å,c=12.47804Å,*** the atomic positions are M at 4f(1/3,2/3,0.60288[Zr]or 0.59889[Hf]),Se at 2c(1/3,2/3,1/4),and B at 2a(0,0,0).And the atomic stacking sequences follow those of the Cr_(2)AlC-type MAX *** work opens up the composition window for the MAB phases and MAX phases and will trigger the interests of material scientists and physicists to explore new compounds and properties in this new family of materials.

How acute myeloid leukemia(AML)escapes from FMS-related tyrosine kinase 3(FLT3)inhibitors?Still an overrated complication?

A Continuum Shell Model Including van derWaals Interaction for Free Vibrations of Double-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

This paper proposes the free vibration analysis of Double-Walled Carbon NanoTubes(DWCNTs).A continuum elastic three-dimensional shell model is used for natural frequency investigation of simply supported *** 3D shell method is compared with beam analyses to show the applicability limits of 1D beam *** effect of van der Waals interaction between the two cylinders is shown for different Carbon NanoTube(CNT)lengths and vibration *** give the van der Waals interaction effect in terms of frequency *** order to apply the 3D shell continuum model,DWCNTs are defined as two concentric isotropic cylinders(with an equivalent thickness and Young modulus)which can be linked by means of the interlaminar continuity conditions or by means of an infinitesimal fictitious layer which represents the van der Waals interaction.
