Multichannel imaging for monitoring chemical composition and germination capacity of cowpea(Vigna unguiculata) seeds during development and maturation

This study aimed to set a computer-integrated multichannel spectral imaging system as a high-throughput phenotyping tool for the analysis of individual cowpea seeds harvested at different developmental stages. The changes in germination capacity and variations in moisture, protein and different sugars during twelve stages of seed development from 10 to 32 days after anthesis were nondestructively monitored. Multispectral data at 20 discrete wavelengths in the ultraviolet, visible and near infrared regions were extracted from individual seeds and then modelled using partial least squares regression and linear discriminant analysis(LDA) models. The developed multivariate models were accurate enough for monitoring all possible changes occurred in moisture, protein and sugar contents with coefficients of determination in prediction R^(2) of 0.93, 0.80 and 0.78 and root mean square errors in prediction(RMSEP) of 6.045%, 2.236% and 0.890%, respectively. The accuracy of PLS models in predicting individual sugars such as verbascose and stachyose was reasonable with R~2 of 0.87 and 0.87 and RMSEP of 0.071%and 0.485%, respectively;but for the prediction of sucrose and raffinose the accuracy was relatively limited with R^(2) of 0.24 and 0.66 and RMSEP of 0.567% and 0.045%, respectively. The developed LDA model was robust in classifying the seeds based on their germination capacity with overall correct classification of96.33% and 95.67% in the training and validation datasets, respectively. With these levels of accuracy,the proposed multichannel spectral imaging system designed for single seeds could be an effective choice as a rapid screening and non-destructive technique for identifying the ideal harvesting time of cowpea seeds based on their chemical composition and germination capacity. Progression of diethylnitrosamine-induced hepatic carcinogenesis in carnitine-depleted rats

AIM:To investigate whether carnitine deficiency is a risk factor during the development of diethylnitrosamine (DENA)-induced hepatic carcinogenesis. METHODS:A total of 60 male Wistar albino rats were divided into six groups with 10 animals in each *** in group 1(control group)received a single intraperitoneal(i.p.)injection of normal saline. Properties of Bark Particleboard Bonded with Demethylated Lignin Adhesives Derived from Leucaena leucocephala Bark

Lignin extraction from bark can maximize the utilization of biomass waste,offer cost-effectiveness,and promote environmental friendliness when employed as an adhesive material in bark particleboard *** of fine(0.2 to 1.0 mm),medium(1.0 to 2.5 mm),and coarse(2.5 to 12.0 mm)sizes,derived from the bark of Leucaena leucocephala,were hot-pressed using a heating plate at 175℃for 7 min to create single-layer particleboards measuring 320 mm×320 mm×10 mm,targeting a density of 700 kg/m^(3).Subsequently,the samples were trimmed and conditioned at 20℃and 65%relative *** this study,we compared bark particleboard bonded with urea formaldehyde(UF)adhesive to fine-sized particleboard bonded with demethylated lignin *** results indicated that bark particleboards utilizing demethylated lignin and UF adhesives exhibited similar *** particleboard showed differences in modulus of elasticity(MOE)and modulus of rupture(MOR),while medium-sized particles exhibited significant variations in moisture content(MC)and water absorption(WA).Furthermore,the thickness swelling of coarse and medium-sized particles under wet and oven-dried conditions exhibited notable ***,the demethylated lignin adhesive extracted from *** bark demonstrated similar quality to UF adhesive,with particle size correlating inversely to the strength of the bark particleboard.

Impact of interfacial tension on oil-water flow in a narrow gap

Numerous researchers have examined the co-current flow of oil-water and aqueous solutions containing polymers and surfactants in thin gaps for oil *** some have focused on charges and forces at the interfaces of oil-surfactant solutions during *** study of flow structures,interface behavior,and relative permeabilities of oil and aqueous phases of surfactant flow through thin gaps has been less *** the first time,this research aims to comprehensively investigate the flow of oil-water and oil-surfactant solutions through a thin gap(Hele-Shaw cell)with a particular focus on the impact of sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS).The experiments reveal that SDS forms an emulsion near the oil-water interface,capturing oil droplets and enabling their flow along with the SDS *** studies confirm this,showing that when SDS contacts oil,it creates channels through the oil phase,leading to the accumulation and division of oil into small round-shaped droplets,resulting in an oil-in-water *** addition of SDS to the injecting water significantly enhances relative permeabilities,leading to a remarkable 90%increase in oil recovery from the *** research suggests that the optimal SDS concentration range for maximum oil recovery is between 1.5 and 2 wt%,as it achieves the minimum interfacial tension between oil and water.

Investigation of risk factors in the development of recurrent urethral stricture after internal urethrotomy
