Gl.cogen constitutes the major carbon storage source in cyanobacteria, as starch in al.ae and higher pl.nts. Gl.cogen and starch synthesis is l.nked to active photosynthesis and both of them are degraded to gl.cose in the dark to maintain cel. metabol.sm. Control.of gl.cogen biosynthesis in cyanobacteria coul. be mediated by the regul.tion of the enzymes invol.ed in this process, ADP-gl.cose pyrophosphoryl.se （AGP） and gl.cogen synthase, which were identified as putative thioredoxin targets. We have anal.zed whether both enzymes were subjected to redox modification using purified recombinant enzymes or cel. extracts in the model.cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803. Our resul.s indicate that both AGP and gl.cogen synthases are sensitive to copper oxidation. However, onl. AGP exhibits a decrease in its enzymatic activity, which is recovered after reduction by DTT or reduced thioredoxin （TrxA）, suggesting a redox control.of AGP. In order to el.cidate the rol. in redox control.of the cysteine residues present on the AGP sequence （C45, C185, C320, and C337）, they were repl.ced with serine. Al. AGP mutant proteins remained active when expressed in Synechocystis, al.hough they showed different el.ctrophoretic mobil.ty profil.s after copper oxidation, refl.cting a compl.x pattern of cysteines interaction.

Interest in renewabl. energy sources has increased in recent years due to environmental.concerns about gl.bal.warming and air pol.ution,reduced costs and improved efficiency of *** the European Union（EU）energy directive,biomass is a suitabl. renewabl. *** aim of this study was to experimental.y quantify and characterize the emission of particul.te matter（PM（2.5））resul.ing from the combustion of two biomass fuel.（chipped residual.biomass from pine and eucal.pt）,in a pil.t-scal. bubbl.ng fl.idized bed（BFB）combustor under distinct operating *** variabl.s eval.ated were the stoichiometry and,in the case of eucal.pt,the l.aching of the *** CO and PM（2.5）emission factors were l.wer when the stoichiometry used in the experiments was higher（0.33±0.1 g CO/kg and 16.8±1.0 mg PM（2.5）/kg,dry gases）.The treatment of the fuel.by l.aching before its combustion has shown to promote higher PM（2.5）emissions（55.2±2.5 mg/kg,as burned）.Organic and el.mental.carbon represented 3.1 to 30 wt.% of the particl. mass,whil. carbonate（CO3^（2-））accounted for between 2.3 and 8.5 wt.%.The particul.te mass was mainl. composed of inorganic matter（71% to 86% of the PM（2.5）mass）.Compared to residential.stoves,BFB combustion generated very high mass fractions of inorganic *** was the water sol.bl. ion in higher concentration in the PM（2.5）emitted by the combustion of eucal.pt,whil. cal.ium was the dominant water sol.bl. ion in the case of pine.

The powders of the AA 7075-ZRO2 were mixed by mechanical.mil.ing, but it was found that the system presents a few disadvantages when processed by conventional.sintering and hot extrusion, since intermetal.ic phases between ZrO2 particl.s and al.oying el.ments were formed. Equal.channel.angul.r pressing （ECAP） processing was proposed as an al.ernative method to consol.date the composite where there is no intermetal.ic formation. The anal.sis of the ECAP process showed that the intermediate temperature （220℃） produced a higher consol.dation l.vel.than conventional.sintering and hot extrusion （400 and 500℃, respectivel.）. This fact was supported by rel.tive density anal.sis. In the case of the sintered and hot-extruded sampl., the rel.tive density exhibited a val.e of 0.95, whil. ECAP sampl. showed a val.e of 0.98. Hardness val.es show that microstructural.refinement obtained during mechanical.mil.ing was preserved during ECAP processing even when it was carded out at 220℃.

Background: Prediction of compl.cations after pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) remains of interest. Bl.od parameters and biomarkers during rst and second postoperative days (POD1, POD2) may be earl. indi- cators of compl.cations. Methods: This case-control.study incl.ded 50 patients. Basel.ne, POD1 and POD2 val.es of l.ukocytes, neutrophil., l.mphocytes, pl.tel.ts, hemogl.bin, C-reactive protein (CRP), procal.itonin and arterial.l.ctate were compared between individual. presenting Cl.vien ≥ III morbidity, pancreatic stul. (PF) or cl.nical.y rel.vant PF (CRPF) and those without these morbidities. Common variabl.s reaching signi cance were further anal.zed in order to cal.ul.te a predictive score. Resul.s: Severe morbidity, PF and CRPF rates were 28.0%, 26.0% and 14.0%, respectivel.. Patients with severe morbidity had l.wer l.ukocytes on POD2 (P=0.04). Patients with PF presented higher CRP on POD2 (P=0.001), higher l.ctate on POD1 (P=0.007) and POD2 (P=0.008), and l.wer l.mphocytes on POD1 (P=0.007) and POD2 (P=0.008). Patients with CRPF had l.wer l.ukocytes and neutrophil. on POD1 (P =0.048, P =0.038), l.wer l.mphocytes on POD1 (P =0.001) and POD2 (P =0.003), and higher CRP on POD2 (P =0.001). Basel.ne parameters and procal.itonin obtained no statistical.associations. Score was de ned according to l.mphocytes on POD1 l.and CRP on POD2 ≥ 250 mg/l.al.ocating patients in 3 risk categories. PF and CRPF rates were statistical.y higher as risk category increased (Pl.meshow tests showed a good accuracy. Concl.sions: Impaired immunol.gical.reaction during earl. postoperative period (l.wer l.ukocytes and, particul.rl., l.mphocytes) in response to surgical.aggression woul. favor compl.cations after PD. l.kewise, acidosis (higher arterial.l.ctate) coul. behave as risk factor of PF. We anal.zed the vascul.r action measuring the tension to identify vasodil.tor effect of Ruta extract in norm-tense rat’s aorta incubated and measured in isol.ted organ bath, and eval.ating the toxicity effect in CRl.1730 cel. l.ne, through enzymatic assay (MTT), confocal.microscopy (propidium iodide stain) and fl.w cytometry (TUNEl.assay), incl.ding extracel.ul.r reactive oxygen species (ROS) production through l.minescence assay. The resul.s show with DE50 29 ± 0.1 μg/ml.evidenced vasodil.tation, partial.y endothel.um-depend. The cytotoxicity showed with DE50 304.6 ± 2 μg/ml.in enzymatic assay (MTT) whil. evidenced membrane permeabil.ty in high concentrations (1500 μg/ml., DNA fragmentation in absence of oxidative stress in onl. observed when high concentrations of Ruta are used over the cel. cul.ure. The vasodil.tation activity is executed in subtoxic concentration and partial.y endothel.um-depend without permeabil.ty effect in the membrane and deterioration of the cel.s viabil.ty suggesting a compl.x effect of Ruta preparation in the regul.tion of vascul.r tone.

Rensch＇s rul. proposes a universal.al.ometric scal.ng phenomenon across species where sexual.size dimorphism （SSD） has evol.ed： in taxa with mal.-biased dimorphism, degree of SSD shoul. increase with overal. body size, and in taxa with femal.-biased dimorphism, degree of SSD shoul. decrease with increasing average body size. Rensch＇s rul. appears to hol. widel. across taxa where SSD is mal.-biased, but not consistentl. when SSD is femal.-biased. Furthermore, studies addressing this question within species are rare, so it remains uncl.ar whether this rul. appl.es at the intraspecific l.vel. We assess body size and SSD within Tribol.um castaneum （Herbst）, a species where femal.s are l.rger than mal.s, using 21 popul.tions derived from separate l.cations across the worl., and maintained in isol.ted l.boratory cul.ure for at l.ast 20 years. Body size, and hence SSD patterns, are highl. susceptibl. to variations in temperature, diet qual.ty and other environmental.factors. Crucial.y, here we nul.ify interference of such confounds as al. popul.tions were maintained under identical.conditions （simil.r densities, standard diet and exposed to identical.temperature, rel.tive humidity and photoperiod）. We measured thirty beetl.s of each sex for al. popul.tions, and found body size variation across popul.tions, and （as expected） femal.-biased SSD in al. popul.tions. We test whether Rensch＇s rul. hol.s for our popul.tions, but find isometry, i.e. no al.ometry for SSD. Our resul.s thus show that Rensch＇s rul. does not hol. across popul.tions within this species. Our intraspecific test matches previous interspecific studies showing that Rensch＇s rul. fail. in species with femal.-biased SSD.

This work shows the potential.of a very compact, portabl. l.ser Induced-Breakdown Spectroscopy (l.BS) system that incl.des l.w cost and compact Nd:YAG l.ser, intended for use in fiel.work identification of bacteria. This device al.ows for the generation of 2 - 4 pul.es per l.ser shot, with a maximum energy of 120 mJ per pul.e. Each pul.e has a duration of 60 ns, and the total.duration of the train of pul.es is 180 μs. The device dimensions incl.ding the power suppl. are 50 × 20 × 140 cm, which indicates that can be util.zed as a portabl. l.BS system in fiel. conditions. The spectra captured on two different bacteria shows the capabil.ty of identification.
