Background: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is important nosocomial pathogen. Aim: In this paper, we determined the prevalence and the antibiotic susceptibility pattern of (MRSA) in a Sudanese surgical ward. Method: A total of 200 post-operative surgical specimens were collected from patients hospitalized in gastrointestinal tract (GIT) surgical ward in Ibn Sina hospital, Khartoum, Sudan and were subjected to MRSA screening and sensitivity test. Key findings: Out of 35 strains of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from surgical samples, 25 (71.4%) were found to be MRSA. Almost all MRSA strains were resistance to Methicillin, 96% to Ofloxacin, 92% to Pencillin G, 24% to Amikacin and 4% to Vancomycin. Cross-resistance was obviously detected. Conclusion: The present study detected alarming levels of S. aureus (MRSA) isolates, at the same time presence of high cross-resistance to other antibiotics.

Objectives: Atlantoaxial dislocation remains a rare and serious condition with a high preoperative and postoperative morbidity and mortality. Its successful surgical management is still challenging and gratifying for neurosurgeons. Several technics have been described such as wiring, trans articular screwing, C1C2 screwing with plate and screw introduced by Goel et al., and modified by insertion of polyaxially screw and rod many years later by Harms. Unavailability and expensiveness of upper cervical spine instrumentation device led us to C1C2 Wiring resulting in a good outcome. Finally, a quadriplegic patient with a more comfortable financial condition had ordered devices from abroad and benefit for Goel and Harms screwing technique and improved dramatically from ASIA A to ASIA E. Material and methods: This is a retrospective study of patients managed in our department by a same neurosurgeon from January 2019 to April 2024. Results: We defined 6 men and 1 woman with an average age of 33 years. Unrestrained driver in a rollover motor vehicle accident was most common. Only one patient was neurologically intact on admission. Neurovegetative disorders were noticed in one patient. Dislocation was associated to a fracture of the dens in two patients. Three patients have been successfully operated with remarkable outcome, mostly from ASIA A to E. Conclusion: C1C2 dislocation is a serious condition and C1C2 Wiring represents an effective and cheaper technic. Therefore, this technic should deserve consideration above all in low incomes countries when screwing devices are not available. Seatbelt should be demanded for motor vehicle drivers and passengers.

Price prediction of goods is a vital point of research due to how common e-commerce platforms *** are several efforts conducted to forecast the price of items using classicmachine learning algorithms and *** models can predict prices of various financial instruments,e.g.,gold,oil,cryptocurrencies,stocks,and second-hand *** these efforts,the literature has no model for predicting the prices of seasonal goods(e.g.,Christmas gifts).In this context,we framed the task of seasonal goods price prediction as a regression ***,we utilized a real online trailer dataset of Christmas gifts and then we proposed several machine learningbased models and one statistical-based model to predict the prices of these seasonal ***,we utilized a real-life dataset of Christmas gifts for the prediction ***,we proposed support vector regressor(SVR),linear regression,random forest,and ridgemodels as machine learningmodels for price ***,we proposed an autoregressive-integrated-movingaverage(ARIMA)model for the same purpose as a statistical-based ***,we evaluated the performance of the proposed models;the comparison shows that the best performing model was the random forest model,followed by the ARIMA model.

The problem of predicting continuous scalar outcomes from functional predictors has received high levels of interest in recent years in many fields,especially in the food *** k-nearest neighbor(k-NN)method of Near-Infrared Reflectance(NIR)analysis is practical,relatively easy to implement,and becoming one of the most popular methods for conducting food quality based on NIR *** k-NN is often named k nearest neighbor classifier when it is used for classifying categorical variables,while it is called k-nearest neighbor regression when it is applied for predicting noncategorical *** objective of this paper is to use the functional Near-Infrared Reflectance(NIR)spectroscopy approach to predict some chemical components with some modern statistical models based on the kernel and k-Nearest Neighbour *** this paper,three NIR spectroscopy datasets are used as examples,namely Cookie dough,sugar,and tecator ***,we propose three models for this kind of data which are Functional Nonparametric Regression,Functional Robust Regression,and Functional Relative Error Regression,with both kernel and k-NN approaches to compare between *** experimental result shows the higher efficiency of k-NN predictor over the kernel *** predictive power of the k-NN method was compared with that of the kernel method,and several real data sets were used to determine the predictive power of both methods.

This work discusses the importance of monitoring and energy management of green energy resources in order to minimize the negative impacts of electricity generation by regular power *** paper introduces a highly efficient,low-cost rooftop photovoltaics(PV)solar panel system which can provide monitoring,controlling and *** proposed system is based on Internet of Things(IoT)and can be used to control different utilities in any premises automatically or set by the user-defined priority list,as compared to the existing IoT-based PV systems which can only perform monitoring and maintenance of the PV panels or only certain parameters,i.e.,temperature,dust,*** is a new step in improving the efficiency of IoT-based PV system where the facility loads are automated by the IoT *** proposed system can also provide a constant feedback about different parameters,i.e.,voltage,dust,sun irradiance and humidity,etc.,via low-cost open-source platforms for telemonitoring and controlling *** simulation results showthat the proposed system provides a high efficiency to energize the utilities and utilize the available energy as compared to the manual control.

Cutaneous leishmaniasis in Al Hassa, Saudi Arabia: Epidemiological trends from 2000 to 2010

Objective: To study epidemiological trends related to cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) in Al Hassa, an endemic area in Saudi Arabia. Methods: This retrospective study included the spatial/ temporal analysis of the reported cases of CL using the available surveillance database for the disease at the regional Vector Control Unit, from 2000 to 2010. Results: The incidence of CL was declining at a stable rate especially during the last 3 years of the study (2008-2010). An interesting finding was the percentage of expatriates affected was increasing over the last 10 years compared to that of the Saudis. Conclusions: A definite declining trend in the incidence of CL was observed in Al Hassa. Further studies are warranted to assess whether special public health measures are needed for better control of CL in expatriate populations in Saudi Arabia.

The energy market in Libya is expected to face substantial changes in the next few years:electrical energy consumption will increase by 50% within the next 4 ***,there is a plan to gradually increase renewable energy sources in the power network by 2030 to 30%.Solar photovoltaic(PV)plants will play a significant role in the energy transition and the mix of energy sources in *** article is a study conducted to investigate the challenges of power-flow management and power protection from integrating PV power plants into the Libyan power *** particular,a simulation model is built for the Kufra PV power plant(10 MW)with eight buses to assess the power network performance in terms of power quality such as voltage profile,power losses and ***,the impact of the PV plant on the short-circuit level and the power-protection system is presented under different operating *** fault ride-through(FRT)is operated using standard ambient temperature and a wide range of irradiation intensity,and is verified by using the Libyan grid *** results show that the integration of the PV plant into the grid has a significant impact on the short-circuit level and the FRT over the different fault levels and locations on the *** initial period of the three-phase fault shows that the PV plant will be disconnected from the grid due to a decrease in the root mean square value voltages where the reactive and active power of the grid reach 938 MVAR and 261 MW,*** results show that increasing the fault level will lead to an increase in injecting the active *** work is considered the first extensive investigation into the challenges of modern power-flow management and power protection for the power network system in Libya.

Systemic Immune Inflammatory Index Is Associated with Pustular Psoriasis: A Single Center Retrospective Study

Introduction: Psoriasis is a chronic multi-systemic inflammatory skin disease that presents with erythema, thickness, and scaling of the skin. Genetic and environmental factors are associated with its etiology. Recently systemic immune inflammatory index, has been proposed as a biomarker for prognosis and severity prediction. Although it has been studied in psoriasis in general, no study exists for its association with the individual types of psoriasis. This study thus aimed to determine its association with clinical characteristics of psoriasis subtypes. Materials and Methods: Data were retrospectively retrieved from the hospital electronic medical database from January 2020 to August 2022. Only patients with CBC results were included. Clinical data retrieved were: Patients’ age, gender, type of psoriasis diagnosed, body mass index, duration of the disease, family history of psoriasis, history of smoking, diabetes, and hypertension records. Laboratory data retrieved were: Complete blood count (CBC), C-reactive protein, Immunoglobulin E (IgE), Total cholesterol, Triglycerides and Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Data were analyzed in SPSS and GraphPad prism. Results: The study enrolled 85 patients with psoriasis;56.47% males, and 43.53% females. 7.6% had psoriasis for less than 10 years, while 42.4% had the disease for more than 10 years. Psoriasis vulgaris was the most common diagnosis, 41.2%, followed by p. pustular, 30.6% and then p. erythroderma 28.2%. Mean age ± SD of the p. vulgaris, p. pustular and p. erythroderma patients were 47.3 ± 15.3;45.3 ± 14.6, and 57.1 ± 11.7 respectively. SII was significantly higher in p. pustular than the rest, (p Conclusion: In summary, systemic immune inflammatory index (SII) was significantly higher in psoriasis pustular than other subtypes of psoriasis, and had an association with hypertension in psoriasis pustular patients.
