Background:The aim of this article is to report and discuss a case of lower rectal cancer undergoing endoscopic transanal resection of tumour(ETART)using a transanal minimally invasive surgery(TAMIS)***:A technical note on a case *** innovative approach for ETART using ***:This is the first-ever case report of lower rectal cancer treated by ETART using a TAMIS *** procedure was completed successfully without any operative or peri-operative ***-operative flexible sigmoidoscopy confirmed a wide and patent rectal ***:Use of a TAMIS approach for ETART to remove lower rectal cancer for palliation can be technically very effective compared with conventional ETART,due to the potential advantages of avoiding contaminant fluid spillage,easy access,better visualization compared with conventional ETART,and being *** results from larger cohorts of patients undergoing TAMIS ETART are required before recommending the routine use of this ***,until then,this approach may be considered as an alternative to conventional ETART.

Use of health-related quality of life tools in hepatobiliary surgery

BACKGROUND: The objective of this article is to review the literature and discuss the various tools used in hepatobiliary surgery for the measurement of health related quality of life (HR-QOL) and highlight various outcome variables that affect the HR-QOL among patients with common hepatobiliary disorders. DATA SOURCES: We reviewed HR-QOL articles published in the last 20 years on different hepatobiliary curative or palliative procedures in all languages. RESULTS: HR-QOL is a questionnaire tool which is utilized to assess the changes in the health status of patients after a hepatobiliary intervention. These surveys are of increasingly importance, as health care providers are challenged to justify treatment approaches and rationale for any surgical intervention. These HR-QOL tools are very helpful for the evaluation of subjective outcome of common hepatobiliary procedures like gastrointestinal quality of life index (GIQLI) for cholecystectomy, functional assessment in cancer therapy (FACT) for liver resection, short form 36 (SF-36) for liver transplantation, and quality of life questionnaire for patients with pancreatic cancer (QLQ-PAN). CONCLUSIONS: Use of validated and reliable health instruments in hepatobiliary surgery is directed at measuring the impact in a reproducible and valid fashion. Curative or palliative procedures should be offered to the patients of hepatobiliary disorders after the assessment by HR-QOL tools. Because the impairments of function that may occur after different operations vary considerably, an operation-specific assessment of HR-QOL for each type of surgical procedure is becoming an essential principle to follow in a successful healthcare system.

Evaluation of state and community/private forests in Punjab, Pakistan using geospatial data and related techniques

Background： Forests are fundamental in maintaining water supplies, providing economic goods, mitigating climate change, and maintaining biodiversity, thus providing many of the world＇s poorest with income, food and medicine. Too often, forested lands are treated as ＂wastelands＂ or ＂free＂ and are easily cleared for agricultural and infrastructure expansion. Methods： In this paper, the sustainability of two forest ecosystems （state and community/private owned） was evaluated using SPOT-5 satellite images of 2005 and 2011. This study was conducted in a sub-watershed area covering 468 km2, of which 201 km2 is managed by the state and 267 km2 by community/private ownership in the Murree Galliat region of Punjab Province of Pakistan. A participatory approach was adopted for the delineation and demarcation of forest boundaries. The Geographic Object-Based Image Analysis （GEOBIA） technique was used for identification and mapping of ten Land Cover （LC） features. Results： The results show that between the years 2005 to 2011, a total of 55 km2 （24 km2 in state-owned forest and 31 km2 in community/private forest） was converted from forest to non-forest. The conclusion is that conservation is more effective in state-owned forests than in the community/private forests. Conclusions： These findings may help to mobilize community awareness and identify effective initiatives for improved management of community/private forest land for other regions of Pakistan.

棉花在国民经济中占有重要地位,是人们日常生活中必不可少的物资。2 017年我国棉花种植面积约322.96万hm,其中新疆的种植面积达到196.31万hm,占全国棉花总种植面积的60.78%;新疆棉花总产量达408.2万t,占全国的74.4%。然而棉花的生产管理较繁琐,费时费力,生产成本高,致使棉花的种植面积呈逐年下滑的趋势。随着我国棉花生产从以长江流域棉区和黄河流域棉区为主向以新疆棉区为主的转变,棉花生产机械化是必然发展趋势,棉花机采技术将对我国棉花生产的发展和稳定起到重要作用。而株型是机械化的关键因素之一,其中株高、单株果枝数和单株铃数是株型的重要构成成分。棉花株型是获得高产的重要前提,不仅对产量的形成有重大的影响,而且与纤维品质性状也有一定的相关性。对这些农艺性状的深入研究,则影响着棉花生产中机采技术的引入和推广。本研究是在已构建了重组自交系(Recombinant inbred lines,RIL)群体及相应的遗传连锁图谱的基础上,利用鲁棉研28的较松散株型和新陆早24的较紧凑株型对该重组自交系群体的株型进行了多年多点的表型数据评价并进行了数量性状位点(Quantitative trait locus,QTL)检测,以挖掘更多与棉花种质资源相关的基因,为培育适合机械化生产的优异品种奠定基础。结果表明:该群体4年6环境的农艺性状数据(其中株高和单株果枝数共6个环境,单株铃数共7个环境)基本描述性统计分析表明,这些性状的偏斜系数的绝对值均小于1,符合正态分布,具备数量性状受微效多基因控制的特点,可以用于QTL定位。相关性分析显示,株高与单株果枝数呈极显著正相关;株高与单株铃数呈显著或极显著正相关,单株果枝数与单株铃数呈极显著正相关,说明这3个性状可以同步改良。基于已发表的覆盖棉花基因组的2 477.99 cM的图谱,并利用Windows QTL Cartographer 2.5软件采用复合区间作图法(Composite interval mapping,CIM)检测与株高、单株果枝数和单株铃数相关的QTL。共检测到30个与株高相关的QTL,能解释3.81%～8.54%的表型变异,其中有4个QTL在至少2个环境中能同时被检测到;29个与单株果枝数相关的QTL,能解释0.49%～11.00%的表型变异,其中有2个QTL在至少2个环境中能同时被检测到;37个与单株铃数相关的QTL,能解释3.58%～8.56%的表型变异,其中有1个QTL在至少2个环境中能同时被检测到。共有27个QTL成簇分布于12个QTL簇中,这些QTL簇主要分布在chr01、chr04、chr05、chr07、chr13、chr18、chr19、chr20、chr21。本研究结果将对进一步了解棉花重要农艺性状的遗传机制,促进棉花机械化生产具有一定的推动作用。

棉花是世界上重要的经济作物之一,棉纤维是纺织工业和人类日常生活中重要的天然纤维来源。为了定位与棉花纤维品质以及产量相关的数量性状位点(Quantitative trait locus,QTL)和基因,以材料0-153和sGK9708为亲本,构建陆地棉种内重组自交系,并构建覆盖陆地棉全基因组的整合遗传图谱。该图谱共有标记8 295个,其中利用棉花70 K芯片开发的单核苷酸多态性(Single nucleotide polymorphism,SNP)标记2 316个,利用简化基因组测序技术SLAF (Specific-locus amplified fragment sequencing)开发的SNP标记5 521个,以及简单重复序列(Simple sequence repeat,SSR)标记458个。该图谱总遗传距离为597.17 cM,平均遗传距离为0.88 cM。结合17个环境的表型数据,总共定位到了与纤维长度、纤维强度、马克隆值、铃重、衣分和籽指相关的多环境稳定遗传的QTLs共155个,它们主要分布在4号、6号、7号、13号、21号和25号染色体上;发现了37个QTLs成簇分布的区域,在这些区域中,纤维强度与纤维长度QTL加性效应方向相同,与衣分效应方向相反。在这些QTL成簇分布的区域中,共有基因1 297个,其中414个在纤维发育过程中表达,结合这些基因的注释信息,最终确定了与棉花纤维发育相关的重要基因15个。本研究第1次利用多种方法开发不同类型的分子标记,并构建覆盖全基因组的陆地棉整合遗传图谱,并且在1个群体中定位到了最多的与产量与纤维品质相关的QTL以及QTL成簇分布区域。这些研究能为研究棉花纤维发育与品质形成的机理机制提供一定的信息,同时也能为棉花育种家对纤维品质及产量进行同步改良提供参考。

Robotic total meso-rectal excision for rectal cancer: A systematic review following the publication of the ROLARR trial

AIM To compare outcomes in patients undergoing rectal resection by robotic total meso-rectal excision(RTME) vs laparoscopic total meso-rectal excision(LTME).METHODS Standard medical electronic databases such as Pub-Med, MEDLINE, EMBASE and Scopus were searched to find relevant articles. The data retrieved from all types of included published comparative trials in pati-ents undergoing RTME vs LTME was analysed using the principles of meta-analysis. The operative, post-operative and oncological outcomes were evaluated to assess the effectiveness of both techniques of TME. The summated outcome of continuous variables was expressed as standardized mean difference(SMD) and dichotomous data was presented in odds ratio(OR).RESULTS One RCT(ROLARR trial) and 27 other comparative studies reporting the non-oncological and oncological outcomes following RTME vs LTME were included in this review. In the random effects model analysis using the statistical software Review Manager 5.3, the RTME was associated with longer operation time(SMD, 0.46; 95%CI: 0.25, 0.67; z = 4.33; P = 0.0001), early passage of first flatus(P = 0.002), lower risk of conversion(P = 0.00001) and shorter hospitalization(P = 0.01). The statistical equivalence was seen between RTME and LTME for non-oncological variables like blo-od loss, morbidity, mortality and re-operation risk. The oncological variables such as recurrence(P = 0.96), number of harvested nodes(P = 0.49) and positive circumferential resection margin risk(P = 0.53) were also comparable in both groups. The length of distal resection margins was similar in both groups. CONCLUSION RTME is feasible and oncologically safe but failed to demonstrate any superiority over LTME for many sur-gical outcomes except early passage of flatus, lower risk of conversion and shorter hospitalization.

In this work the structural,electronic and thermoelectric properties of YbMg_(2)X_(2)(X=P,As,Sb,Bi)zintl compounds were investigated comprehensively using first principles *** electronic properties were studied using PBE GGA,TB-mBJ and hybrid(YS-PBE0)*** the structural parameters of optimized structures are in harmonious agreement to the available *** band structure study illustrates that the titled materials manifest metallic and semi metallic nature using PBE and TB-mBJ potentials while they show wide band gap semiconducting behavior by following hybrid(YS-PBE0)*** density of states(TDOS)and partial density of states(PDOS)were also calculated to glimpse the contribution of orbitals of atoms in the formation of *** properties were studied by using BoltzTraP2 code employed to *** get enormous values of Seebeck coefficient(S),power factor(PF)and thermoelectric figure of merit(ZT)for all the samples YbMg_(2)X_(2)(X=P,As,Sb,Bi),Moreover,the overwhelming transport properties for the titled compounds indicate the optimum level of carriers’concentration which pinpoints these materials to be better thermoelectrics in the 1-2-2 zintl family.

TrFAST: A Tool to Predict Signaling Pathway-specific Transcription Factor Binding Sites

Recent advances in the development of high-throughput tools have significantly revolutionized our understanding of molecular mech- anisms underlying normal and dysfunctional biological processes. Here we present a novel computational tool, transcription factor search and analysis tool （TrFAST）, which was developed for the in silico analysis of transcription factor binding sites （TFBSs） of sig- naling pathway-specific TFs. TrFAST facilitates searching as well as comparative analysis of regulatory motifs through an exact pattern matching algorithm followed by the graphical representation of matched binding sites in multiple sequences up to 50 kb in length. TrFAST is proficient in reducing the number of comparisons by the exact pattern matching strategy. In contrast to the pre-existing tools that find TFBS in a single sequence, TrFAST seeks out the desired pattern in multiple sequences simultaneously. It counts the GC con- tent within the given multiple sequence data set and assembles the combinational details of consensus sequence（s） located at these regions, thereby generating a visual display based on the abundance of unique pattern. Comparative regulatory region analysis of multi- ple orthologous sequences simultaneously enhances the features of TrFAST and provides a significant insight into study of conservation of non-coding cis-regulatory elements.
