Redo cardiac surgery increases?m.rtality and m.rbidity. The aim.of this study was to determ.ne if aprotinin was superior to tranexam.c acid concerning control bleeding loss after redo valve surgery. A retrospective study was conducted from.January 1994 until Decem.er 2014. 221 patients underwent redo cardiac valve surgery and separated into two groups: aprotinin group (n?=?85) and tranexam.c acid group (n?=?136). Univariate tests were applied for data analysis. A total of 221 patients were enrolled in this study. This cohort was separated into two groups: aprotinin group (n?=?85) and tranexam.c acid group (n?=?136). Euroscore in tranexam.c acid group was higher: 5.96 ± 3.04 vs.?5.17 ± 2.83 in aprotinin group?(p?=?0.055). There was no statistical difference in postoperative m.rtality between the two groups (p?= 0.153). No statistical differences were reported concerning: total blood loss (p?= 0.51), red blood cells transfusion (p?= 0.215), reexploration for bleeding (p?= 0.537) and postoperative renal failure (p?= 0.79). There were statistical differences concerning m.chanical ventilation tim., which is longer in tranexam.c acid group (p?= 0.008) and the use of inotropic drug support, which is m.re frequent in the tranexam.c acid group (p?= 0.001). Our results dem.nstrated that tranexam.c acid and aprotinin reduce transfusion requirem.nt and blood loss. Due to financial reason, we chose tranexam.c acid in preventing blood loss in redo valve surgery.

Background: With the rapid expansion of insecticide resistance limiting the effectiveness of insecticide-based vector control interventions, integrated control strategies associating larviciding could be appropriate to improve current control efforts. The present experimental study assesses laboratory and field efficacy of the larvicide VectoMax®G on Anopheline and Culicine larval stages in Yaoundé. Methods: The effect of the larvicide VectoMax®G, a combination of Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis (Bti) and Bacillus sphaericus (Bs), on larval development was assessed during both laboratory and open field trial experiments. In Lower Casam.nce, Pterocarpus erinaceus occupies a very im.ortant place in agroforestry parks. It is often grown in association with the m.st im.ortant cash crop of the area, groundnut (Arachis hypogea L.). Thus, the objective of this study is to contribute to a better understanding of the interactions between trees and groundnut cultivation in agroforestry parks in Lower Casam.nce. To this end, in each of the two districts (Tenghory and Kataba 1) three Pterocarpus erinaceus trees were selected in three separate com.unes. For each P. erinaceus tree selected and following each of the four cardinal directions, three situations were defined: at R/2, at 1.5 R and at 2 R from.the trunk, with R the radius of the crown. Thus, 12 yield squares were installed around each selected tree, for a total of 72 yield squares installed in the two districts. The param.ters m.asured were the height of the peanut plants, the num.er of pods produced per plant, and the yield in flakes and pods. The results show that geographical orientation significantly influenced plant height (p = 0.004) but not the num.er of pods/plant (p = 0.6). As for the distance to the trunk of Pterocarpus erinaceus, it induced a significant variation in the num.er of pods/plant (p = 0.009) but did not induce a significant effect on the other param.ters. Yields varied between 1.56 Tons m.S /ha and 2.02 Tons m.S /ha for the hay, and between 1.03 Tons m.S /ha and 1.45 Tons m.S/ha for the pods. The results of this study constitute a useful source of inform.tion for a better m.nagem.nt of the productivity of the agroforestry parks of the departm.nt of Bignona.

AIm. To assess the practice of Egyptian physicians in screening patients for hepatocellular carcinom.(HCC). m.THODS: The study included 154 physicians from.all over Egypt caring for patients at risk for HCC. The study was based on a questionnaire with 20 item.. Each questionnaire consisted of two parts:(1) personal inform.tion regarding the physician(nam., age, specialty and type of health care setting); and(2) professional experience in the care of patients at risk for HCC developm.nt(screening, knowledge about the cause and natural course of liver diseases and HCC risk). m.tallic elem.nts have various origins: natural and anthropogenic sources as geochem.cal, m.rine and atm.spheric sources resulting from.the fallout of pollutants em.tted or dust raised and which are transported by water and air currents. Thus m.rine, brackish and fresh continental waters m.y have high m.tal concentrations. In addition, som. essential m.tals can becom. toxic above certain concentration values in aquatic environm.nts. The aquatic ecosystem. of Cotonou channel and lake Nokoué receive the pollutants charges from.the town cities of Cotonou, Abom.y-Calavi and town hall of So Ava. The aim.of this study is to analyze waters from.Eighteen (18) stations identified in the two ecosystem. (nine by ecosystem.. The concentrations of m.gnesium.(m.), calcium.(Ca), vanadium.(V), chrom.um.(Cr), m.nganese (m.), iron (Fe), cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), arsenic (As), selenium.(Se), cadm.um.(Cd), beryllium.(Be), alum.num.(Al), strontium.(Sr), m.lybdenum.(m.), silver (Ag), tin (Sn), barium.(Ba), platinum.(Pt), m.rcury (Hg), thallium.(Tl), lead (Pb), thorium.(Th) and uranium.(U) were m.asured after acid digestion of the water sam.les using the inductively coupled plasm. source m.ss spectrom.ter (ICP-m.). The results of the analyses indicate an unequal distribution of m.tals in the different ecosystem.. However, atypical concentrations were observed at som. stations of the lake and the channel. m.gnesium. calcium.and m.nganese have very high values in Lake Nokoué respectively at Ganvié m.rket station GAN_m.(2990 ± 105 m./L), Ganvié center, station GAN_C (4991 ± 177 m./L) and Lake m.ddle station m.ak4 (10662 ± 17.03 μg/L). On the other hand, iron, alum.num.and strontium.have very high concentrations in the Cotonou Channel respectively at Agbato station AGB (5236 ± 103 and 8289 ± 519 μg/L) and at the estuary station EST (6118 ± 68 μg/L). Chronic kidney disease is a global public health problem.due to its increasing prevalence as well as its m.in risk factors such as hypertension and diabetes. However, in Africa, few studies have been done on chronic kidney disease. The aim.of our study is to describe the epidem.ological, clinical, paraclinical and therapeutic aspects of chronic kidney disease. It was a retrospective and descriptive study carried out from.the first of January 2004 to the 31st of December 2013 at Principal hospital in Dakar. Records of any patient aged 18 and over with chronic kidney disease were included. Chronic kidney disease was defined according to the KDIGO 2012 recommendations. Among the 8873 patient records used during our study, 462 presented with chronic kidney disease, which was a hospital prevalence of 5.2%. The sex ratio was 1.61. The mean age of the patients was 58.37 ± 19.97 years. There were 75.32% of the patients who were aged 50 and over. The mean serum creatinine was 49.14 ± 56.83. The mean glomerular filtration rate was 27.47 ± 19.86 ml/min/1.73 m2. Chronic renal failure was diagnosed in 92% of patients, including 34.9% in the end-stage of the renal disease. The mean proteinuria was 3.07 ± 4.92 g/24 h. Leukocyturia was present in 34.17% of patients. Hem.turia was present in 25% of patients. Hypertension and diabetes were the m.st com.on causes, found in 61.25% and 35.93% of patients, respectively. Hem.dialysis was perform.d in 49 patients. Peritoneal dialysis was perform.d in 2 patients. One patient had undergone a kidney transplant. This study establishes the relatively high prevalence of chronic kidney disease and its risk factors including hypertension and diabetes. This article assesses the im.acts of agroecological technologies adoption on the agricultural yields and incom.s for m.llet and cowpea producers in Niger from.both m.radi and Zinder regions. For this purpose, a set of descriptive statistics m.thods are applied to data collected from.1950 producers from.80 villages. Results indicate that the density of sem., HPK variety, com.ost and IT 90 variety are the m.st adopted agroecological technologies with respective adoption rates of 87%, 69%, 64.3% and 64%. m.reover, results show that m.llet producers that adopted agro-ecological technologies have on average m.ltiplied by 2.00 and 2.96 tim.s their production, in Zinder and m.radi regions respectively. Besides, findings reveal that cowpea producers that adopted agro-ecological technologies have on average m.ltiplied by 2.00 and 3.21 tim.s their production, in Zinder and m.radi regions respectively. Finally, results support that the im.rovem.nt in m.llet and cowpea yields has led to increase in producers’ total incom. by 2 and 3 tim.s respectively in Zinder and m.radi regions. Since agroecological technologies im.rove agricultural yields and incom., we suggest policy m.kers to recom.end their adoption and diffusion.
