With the rapid evolution of data exchange in network environments, information security has been the most important process for data storage and communication. In order to provide such information security, the confidentiality, data integrity, and data origin authentication must be verified based on cryptographic encryption algorithms. This paper presents a new emerging trend of modern symmetric encryption algorithm by development of the advanced encryption standard (AES) algorithm. The new development focuses on the integration between Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and an enhanced version of AES. A new quantum symmetric encryption algorithm, which is abbreviated as Quantum-AES (QAES), is the output of such integration. QAES depends on generation of dynamic quantum S-Boxes (DQS-Boxes) based quantum cipher key, instead of the ordinary used static S-Boxes. Furthermore, QAES exploits the specific selected secret key generated from the QKD cipher using two different modes (online and off-line).

AIM: To compare the yield of adenomas between narrow band imaging and white light when using high definition/magnification. METHODS: This prospective, non-randomized comparative study was performed at the endoscopy unit of veteran affairs medical center in Phoenix, Arizona. Consecutive patients undergoing first average risk colorectal cancer screening colonoscopy were selected. Two experienced gastroenterologists performed all the procedures that were blinded to each other's findings. Demographic details were recorded. Data are presented as mean ± SEM. Proportional data were compared using the χ2 test and means were compared using the Student's t test. Tandem colonoscopy was performed in a sequential and segmental fashion using one of 3 strategies: white light followed by narrow band imaging [Group A: white light(WL) → narrow band imaging(NBI)]; narrow band imaging followed by white light(Group B: NBI → WL) and, white light followed by white light(Group C: WL → WL). Detection rate of missed polyps and adenomas were evaluated in all three groups. RESULTS: Three hundred patients were studied(100 in each Group). Although the total time for the colonoscopy was similar in the 3 groups(23.8 ± 0.7, 22.2 ± 0.5 and 24.1 ± 0.7 min for Groups A, B and C, respectively), it reached statistical significance between Groups B and C(P < 0.05). The cecal intubation time in Groups B and C was longer than for Group A(6.5 ± 0.4 min and 6.5 ± 0.4 min vs 4.9 ± 0.3 min; P < 0.05). The withdrawal time for Groups A and C was longer than Group B(18.9 ± 0.7 min and 17.6 ± 0.6min vs 15.7 ± 0.4 min; P < 0.05). Overall miss rate for polyps and adenomas detected in three groups during the second look was 18% and 17%, respectively(P = NS). Detection rate for polyps and adenomas after first look with white light was similar irrespective of the light used during the second look(WL → WL: 13.7% for polyps, 12.6% for adenomas; WL → NBI: 14.2% for polyps, 11.3% for adenomas). Osteogenesis imperfecta is a hereditary disease characterized by bone fragility due to a defect in type I collagen synthesis. The diagnosis is typically suspected based on suggestive ultrasound findings and confirmed through genetic studies. We present a case of osteogenesis imperfecta suspected during obstetrical ultrasound at 19 weeks’ gestation, which was later confirmed radiographically through computed tomography. Due to the severity of the condition, therapeutic termination of pregnancy was indicated.

Cucurbitaceae family contains important economic and medical crops, they can be divided into two categories according to the worldwide consumption, use, and production. The Cucurbit Popular Crops (CuPoC) are comprised of cucumber, the Cucurbita group (pumpkin and squash), melon and watermelon. On the other hand, Neglected and Underutilized Cucurbit Species (NUCuS) group has been used as food sources, medicinal properties and elements in the elaboration of different types of items. The NUCuS is represented in this review work by bitter gourd, bottle gourd, chayote, ridge gourd, and snake gourd, which are recognized mainly in Asia. The center of origin of the majority of NUCuS was proposed to be in the Old World. In contrast, the origin of chayote or Sechiumedule (Jacq.) Sw. was suggested in the New World, precisely in Mesoamerican region based on linguistic uses and distribution of wild relatives. The environmental factors along with artificial selection, production systems and traditional knowledge have been influenced the evolutionary history of NUCuS, Infraspecific variation of chayote has been reported in Mexico over-described varietal groups. These descriptors were determined based on biochemical and morpho-structural traits;however, cytogenetic analyses are scarce. Specifically, chromosome and nuclear content analyses are important to support botanical groups, analyze artificial selection history, developing breeding and conservation programs. The present review paper discusses agronomic and evolutionary importance based on cytological evidence in NUCuS, mainly in the prominent chayote;with the perspective to prompt breeding, conservation, cytology, structural and functional genomics research for its sustainable utilization.

Brain Metastases in Patients with Gynecologic Cancers: A Single Institution Experience and Review of the Literature

This paper aims to estimate intermittent transient cooling load characteristics in an academic building with large glazing area using TRNSYS. Simulation and experimental studies have been done in the past to estimate cooling load characteristic and to find strategies to reduce the energy used by the centralized HVAC system in various ways. However, these studies were mostly conducted for a building with simultaneous occupancy pattern. Since occupancy pattern in a university is intermittent, the cooling load characteristic would be different with that with simultaneous occupancy pattern. The building thermal and simulation model was first built and validated by comparing the results with experimental results. The validated model was then used to estimate the cooling load characteristic on a year basis. In addition, the effect of the occupancy pattern were also analyzed and discussed. The results showed that the ratio of cooling loads at minimum and maximum were 0.52, 0.54, and 0.68 for the workshop, classroom and office due to the occupancy pattern. The results also implied that the HVAC system should be equipped with additional equipment to track the occupancy and make it work based on the occupancy pattern. This would reduce the energy wasted during unoccupied period.

Objective: Brain Metastasis (BM) from primary gynecologic cancers is a rare entity. The advances and successes in the treatment of primary gynecologic malignancies, have led to prolonged survival and, a higher incidence of BM. This study aims to report the experience at our institution in managing these patients, and provide possible data points that may be essential to note as prognostic factors, and see if our findings are consistent with the literature in this subject. We also aim to provide a brief literature review of patients with gynecologic cancers and BM. Methods: This is a small single institution retrospective study of 23 patients with a gynecologic malignancy and BM, identified between the years 2007-2015. Data were collected on variables including patient demographics, disease and treatment. Results: The median overall survival from the primary diagnosis was 28 months. Median time from diagnosis of BM to death was 9 months. Conclusion: The outcomes in our study are similar to what is stated in the current literature with regard to BM from gynecologic malignancies. Our literature search also revealed that the molecular analysis and treatment of the primary tumor remain important to prevent BMs. The tendency of tumors to metastasize varies for one tumor type to another for the same type of tumor. The tendency to develop BM may not only depend on risk factors such as stage, grade, and histology, but also on the genetic profile of the primary tumor. The study suggests that multimodal treatment of BM has better outcomes in managing BM from gynecologic cancers.
