microbially induced carbonate precipitation(mICP)is a new technology having the potential to induce soil stabilization and provide a green and sustainable comprehensive solution to some geotechnical engineering problems in the *** present article is dedicated to present a critical review of this technology and discuss its mechanisms of action and the key factors influencing its *** global experiences and national participation from Egypt are demonstrated,in addition to attempts for real life *** review provides an insight into the practical steps taken to mitigate some of the current limitations of mICP application and the identified gaps in analogous *** was concluded that integrating mICP with existing technologies would favor both engineering needs and market *** addition,providing effective solutions to mICP limitations would highlight this technology as an eco-friendly and cost-effective option to several engineering ***,recommendations focused on encouraging global collaboration for knowledge transfer about this technology among different countries,as well as positive financial support from industrial entities to aid in the progress of scientific research and achieving large-scale applications in the near future,are provided.

The present investigation demonstrates the synergistic action of using a sedimentation unit together with Cyperus papyrus(L.)wetland enriched with zeolite mineral in one-year round experiment for treating *** system was designed to support a horizontal surface flow pattern and showed satisfactory removal efficiencies for both physicochemical and bacteriological contaminants within 3 days of residence *** removal efficiencies ranged between 76.3%and 98.8%for total suspended solids,turbidity,iron,biological oxygen demand,and *** bacterial indicators(total and fecal coliforms,as well as fecal streptococci)and the potential pathogens(Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus,and Pseudomonas aeruginosa)showed removal efficiencies ranged between 96.9%and 99.8%.We expect the system to offer a smart management for every component according to zero waste *** treated effluent was reused to irrigate the landscape of pilot area,and the excess sludge was recycled as fertilizer and soil *** zeolite mineral did not require regeneration for almost 36 weeks of operation,and enhanced the density of shoots(14.11%)and the height of shoots(15.88%).The harvested plant biomass could be a profitable resource for potent antibacterial and antioxidant bioactive *** could certainly offset part of the operation and maintenance costs and optimize the system implementation *** the experiment was designed under local conditions,its results could provide insights to upgrade and optimize the performance of other analogous large-scale constructed wetlands.

Early diagnostic evaluation of miR-122 and miR-224 as biomarkers for hepatocellular carcinoma

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is one of the common lethal types of tumor all over the *** lethality of HCC accounts for many *** of them,the lack of reliable diagnostic markers at the early stage,in this context,serum miRNAs became promising diagnostic ***,we aimed to identify the predictive value of two miRNAs(miR-122 and miR-224)in plasma of patients with HCC preceded by chronic HCV *** miRNA assays specific for hsa-miR-122 and hsa-miR-224 were used to assess the expression levels of the chosen miRNAs in plasma samples collected from three groups;40 patients with HCC related to HCV,40 with CHC patients and 20 healthy *** study revealed that the mean plasma values of miRNA-122 were significantly lower among HCC group when compared to CHC and control groups(PmiR-224 mean plasma values were significantly higher among HCC group when compared to both CHC group and control ***,it was found that miR-122 can predict development of HCC at cut-off valuemiR-224,it can predict development of HCC at cut-off value>1.2(RQ)and(AUC Z 0.93,Pma of miR-122 and miR-224 could be used as noninvasive biomarkers for the early prediction of developing HCC at the early stage.

Objective:To evaluate the effect of hydroxysafflor yellow A(HSYA)on thioacetamide-induced liver ***:Thioacetamide was administered to rats intraperitoneally in doses of 200 mg/kg twice a week for 12 ***-intoxicated rats were given silymarin(50 mg/kg)or HSYA(5 mg/kg)orally every day for 8 *** enzymes,fibrosis markers,histological changes as well as immunohistochemistry of TNF-α,IL-6,p21,α-SmA,and caspase-3 were *** effect of HSYA on HSC-T6 activation/proliferation and apoptosis was also determined in ***:HSYA decreased liver enzymes,TNF-α,IL-6,and p21 expressions,hepatic PDGF-B,TImP-1,TGF-β1,and hydroxyproline levels,as well as fibrosis score(S2 vs.S4)compared to the thioacetamide *** also downregulatedα-SmA while increasing caspase-3 ***,at 500μg/mL,HSYA had only a slightly suppressive effect on HSC proliferation,with a 9.5%***,it significantly reduced TGF-β1,inhibitedα-SmA expression,induced caspase-3 expression,and promoted cell ***:HSYA may be a potential therapeutic agent for delaying and reversing the progression of liver *** research on HSYA at higher doses and for a longer period is warranted.

Objective:To investigate the antifibrotic role of rosmarinic acid(RA),a natural polyphenolic compound,on HSCs activation/proliferation and apoptosis in vitro and in vivo. methods:The impact of RA on stellate cell line(HSC-T6) proliferation,activation and apoptosis was assessed along with its safety on primary hepatocytes. In vivo,rats were divided into:(i) normal;(ii) thioacetamide(TAA)-intoxicated rats for 12 weeks;(iii) TAA+silymarin or(iv) TAA+RA. At the end of experiment,liver functions,oxidative stress,inflammatory and profibrogenic markers,tissue inhibitor metalloproteinases type-1(TImP-1) and hydroxyproline(HP) levels were evaluated. Additionally,liver histopathology and immunohistochemical examinations of alpha-smooth muscle actin(α-SmA),caspase-3 and proliferation cellular nuclear antigen(PCNA) were determined. Results:RA exhibited anti-proliferative effects on cultured HSCs in a time and concentration dependent manner showing an IC50 of 276 μg/mL and 171 μg/mL for 24 h and 48 h,respectively,with morphological reversion of activated stellate cell morphology to quiescent form. It significantly improved ALT,AST,oxidative stress markers and reduced TImP-1,HP levels,inflammatory markers and fibrosis score(S1 vs S4). Furthermore,reduction in α-SmA plus elevation in caspase-3 expressions of HSCs in vitro and in vivo associated with an inhibition in proliferation of damaged hepatocytes were recorded. Conclusions:RA impeded the progression of liver fibrosis through inhibition of HSCs activation/proliferation and induction of apoptosis with preservation of hepatic architecture.

Background and Aims:Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a silent disease;its spectrum includes simple steatosis,nonalcoholic steatohepatitis and ***-and anti-inflammatory cytokines play roles in the pathogenesis of NAFLD and insulin resistance (IR).moreover,plasma cell antigen-1 (PC-1) is related to IR and associated with NAFLD ***,we aimed to detect biomarkers,ultrasonographic and anthropometric findings capable of differentiating NAFLD grades,since most previous investigators were concerned more with NAFLD patients without classifying them into ***:A total of 87 NAFLD patients (31 with grade 1 (mild NAFLD),26 with grade 2 (moderate NAFLD) and 30 with grade 3 (severe NAFLD) were included in the study,in addition to 47 controls (grade 0).All subjects underwent ultrasonographic examination for NAFLD *** interleukin-10 (IL-10),plasma interleukin-18 (IL-18) and plasma PC-1 levels were determined using enzyme-linked immunosorbent ***:Homoeostasis model assessment (HOmA)-IR was higher in different NAFLD grades than in *** and anthropometric findings and lipid profile indices (except for high-density lipoprotein cholesterol,which was decreased) were increased with NAFLD *** 3 patients showed significant increase in levels of IL-18 and significant decrease in IL-10 and PC-1 levels when compared to grade 1 ***:Anthropometric and ultrasonographic findings were valuable in differentiating NAFLD *** is very important in NAFLD ***-18,HOmA-index and PC-1 levels could be used to differentiate between NAFLD grades,together with other measurements.

The low temperature aging behavior of polycrystalline tetragonal zirconia was investigated to explore the effects on phase transformation occurring during the process. XRD analysis was conducted for the phase identification and the tetragonal to monoclinic phase transformation was determined. The aging of tetragonal zirconia polycrystals doped with 3 mol% Y203 triggers tetragonal to monoclinic phase transformation on the surface of the specimen only, while the penetration inside the bulk of the specimen is very limited. A slight decrease in the mechanical properties was also observed after aging for 40 h. The transformation kinetics show a nucleation and growth mechanism on the specimen surface to be dominant in the low temperature aging in water environment.

The isothermal tetragonal-to-monoclinic phase transformation of 3 mol fraction Y2O3-ZrO2 ceramics contain- ing different amounts of Al2O3 during ageing in water at 130℃ for periods of time up to 40 h was investigated to explore the effect of Al2O3 addition on this transformation. The propagation of the transformation into the specimen interiors was suppressed by the addition of Al2O3. The transformation kinetics showed a nucleation and growth mechanism on the specimen surface to be dominant in the low temperature ageing in water environment.

The current review explores the role of emerging molecular contributing factors in liver carcinogenesis on top of hepatitis C virus(HCV). Here we will try to discuss the role genetic and epigenetic factors in pathogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma. Understanding the role of these factors will help in discovering the mystery of liver carcinogenesis on top of chronic HCV infection. moreover, use of the studied molecular factors will provide the hepatologists with tailored diagnostic promising biomarkers and flatten the way for establishment of emerging molecular treatment based on exploring the molecular subscription of this aggressive liver cancer.
