Lessons learned from the Ezgeleh-sarpol Zahab earthquake of November 2017:status of damage and disposal of disaster waste

A massive earthquake of magnitude Mw 7.3 shook Kermanshah Province in Western Iran along the Iraqi border on November 12,*** epicenter of the earthquake was approximately 10 km southwest of Ezgeleh Town in Kermanshah *** observations almost 4 months after the disaster indicated that the earthquake had caused tremendous damage to most structures in both urban and rural areas,and left an enormous amount of disaster *** investigate the status of the dam-age and disposal of the disaster waste,remote sensing was conducted using an unmanned aerial vehicle(drone).Through the capture of low-altitude images by drone and the generation of 3D models,the quantity of debris accumulated in a waste disposal facility near sarpol Zahab was estimated at approximately 480,000 m3.A compositional analysis of the disaster waste was performed using an imaging *** revealed that the disaster waste was largely composed of concrete(39.6%),hollow brick(35.4%),and gypsum(21.2%)in the urban area,whereas soil was the dominant component(77.4%)in the rural *** damage caused to most buildings was essentially due to their non-standard *** manage-ment of debris from the damaged buildings was a critical issue for the authorities,and the lack of preparedness was a serious drawback that consumed an enormous amount of time,budget,and workforce.A practical post-disaster preparedness plan would help the decision-makers and the public to manage the otherwise overwhelming nature of the post-disaster conditions in a more reasonable manner.

This study investigated dry sliding wear properties of AZ31 magnesium alloy and B_(4)C-reinforced AZ31 composites containing 5, 10, and 20 wt.% B_(4)C with bimodal sizes under different loadings(10-80 N) at various sliding speeds(0.1-1 m/s) via the pin-on-disc *** evaluations showed that when the distribution of B_(4)C particles was uniform the hardness of the composites increased by enhancing the reinforcement content. The unreinforced alloy and the composite samples were examined to determine the wear mechanism maps and identify the dominant wear mechanisms in each wear condition and reinforcement content. For this purpose, wear rates and friction coefficients were recorded during the wear tests and worn surfaces were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry analyses. The determined wear mechanisms were abrasion, oxidation, delamination, adhesion, and plastic deformation as a result of thermal softening and melting. The wear evaluations revealed that the composites containing 5 and 10 wt.% B_(4)C had a significantly higher wear resistance in all the conditions. However, 20 wt.% B_(4)C/AZ31 composite had a lower resistance at high sliding speeds(0.5-1 m/s) and high loadings(40-80 N) in comparison with the unreinforced alloy. The highest wear resistance was obtained at high sliding speeds and low loadings with the domination of oxidative wear.

Cyber-Physical systems(CPs)comprise interactive computation,networking,and physical *** integrative environment of CPs enables the smart systems to be aware of the surrounding physical *** systems,such as smart health care systems,smart homes,smart transportation,and smart cities,are made up of complex and dynamic *** components integration development approach should be based on the divide and conquer *** way multiple interactive components can reduce the development complexity *** reusability enhances efficiency and consistency in CPs,encapsulation of component functionalities and a well-designed user interface is vital for the better end-user’s Quality of Experience(QoE).Thus,incorrect interaction of interfaces in the cyber-physical system causes system ***,interface failures occur due to false,and ambiguous requirements analysis and ***,to resolve this issue semantic analysis is required for different stakeholders’viewpoint analysis during requirement specification and components *** work proposes a framework to improve the CPs component integration process,starting from requirement specification to prioritization of components for *** semantic analysis and assessing the reusability of specifications,the framework uses text mining and case-based reasoning *** framework has been tested experimentally,and the results show a significant reduction in ambiguity,redundancy,and irrelevancy,as well as increasing accuracy of interface interactions,component selection,and higher user satisfaction.

Effect of changing mesopic and photopic light conditions on visual functions

AIM:To determine the effects of change in light conditions on refractive error and visual functions including visual acuity,stereopsis and contrast ***:This cross-sectional study was conducted in the optometry clinic of the shahid Beheshti school of Rehabilitation on 48 students in *** of them had eye health and normal visual function and could have refractive errors or *** intensity of 4 lx was considered equivalent to photopic light condition and light intensity of 1 lx was considered to be equivalent to mesopic light *** amount of refractive error was checked by auto refractometer and its changes in mesopic light condition were subjectively ***,visual acuity,stereopsis and contrast sensitivity(in five spatial frequencies of 1.5,3,6,12,and 18 cycles per degree),were measured first in photopic light condition and then in mesopic light condition,by snellen control vision chart,stereo butterfly test and the M&s technology monitor test ***:In the 48 student subjects with an average age of 22.69±3.56y,mean of refractive error as sphere equivalent,visual acuity and stereopsis were-1.25±1.74 diopters,0 logMAR,44.37±13.03 seconds of arc,respectively in photopic light condition while in mesopic light was equal to-1.56±1.75 diopters,0.12±0.09 logMAR and 50.62±33.35 seconds of arc,*** mean of contrast sensitivity measured at spatial frequencies of 1.5,3,6,12,and 18 cycles per degree in photopic condition was equal to 2.38±0.04,2.37±0.07,2.04±0.21,1.27±0.32,0.82±0.27 logarithm of contrast sensitivity,respectively and in mesopic lighting condition was equal to 2.34±0.12,2.30±0.16,1.84±0.28,1.02±0.28,0.63±0.24 logarithm of contrast sensitivity,*** analysis showed a significant difference between the two lighting conditions in all evaluated variables[refractive error(Psual acuity(Pstereopsis(P=0.008)and contrast sensitivity(PsION:The refractive

Power Inverted Topp–Leone Distribution in Acceptance sampling Plans

We introduce a new two-parameter model related to the inverted Topp–Leone distribution called the power inverted Topp–Leone(PITL)*** properties of the PITL distribution are stated;including;quantile measures,moments,moment generating function,probability weighted moments,Bonferroni and Lorenz curve,stochastic ordering,incomplete moments,residual life function,and entropy *** sampling plans are developed for the PITL distribution,when the life test is truncated at a pre-specified *** truncation time is assumed to be the median lifetime of the PITL distribution with pre-specified *** minimum sample size necessary to ensure the specified life test is obtained under a given consumer’s *** results for given consumer’s risk,parameters of the PITL distribution and the truncation time are *** estimation of the model parameters is argued using maximum likelihood,least squares,weighted least squares,maximum product of spacing and Bayesian methods.A simulation study is confirmed to evaluate and compare the behavior of different *** real data applications are afforded in order to examine the flexibility of the proposed model compared with some others *** results show that the power inverted Topp–Leone distribution is the best according to the model selection criteria than other competitive models.

Zinc Chloride Catalyzed Regioselective Nitration of Aromatic Hydrocarbons Using Tetrachlorosilane-sodium Nitrate Homogeneous system

The development of a new silane reagent derived from tetrachlorosilane (TCs) was applied in the present work. TCs-sodium nitrate (NaNO3) binary reagent and zinc chloride (ZnCl2) were reported here as a homogeneous nitrating system. The later was used for the efficient mono nitration, in most cases, with high para-regioselectivity. The nitration proceeded smoothly under mild condition, fairly clean and in good yields. This readily available and inexpensive system is superior to other methods by avoidance of the use of corrosive nitrating reagents and therefore considered to be convenient in terms of risk reduction, economic advantages and environment protection. The present protocol was convenient and applicable to a variety of aromatic hydrocarbons and could be amenable to high throughput synthesis of combinatorial libraries for potential drug development, which needs to be studied as part of future investigations.

The Reproductive and Thyroid Hormonal Profile of Khat (Catha Edulis) Chewers

The effects of khat on the hormonal levels have been established;however, the effects on human beings are controversial. The aim of our study was to investigate the possible effects of khat on the levels of serum thyroid hormones, testosterone, estradiol (E2), prolactin and cortisol in men. A total of 50 blood samples were collected from healthy males who referred to chew khat for more than 10 years and analyzed for the above hormones. The results were compared to the hormonal levels of 35 non khat chewers. Chewing khat causes significant increases in the testosterone (P sH (P s. No significant differences were found in the serum level of FT4 between the two groups. The level of cortisol were significantly lower (P s group compared to the control group. This study suggests that khat chewing can cause reduction in the cortisol level, which may cause increases of testosterone, prolactin and E2. In addition, chewing khat increases the level of TsH and FT3 serum levels. Therefore, khat may contribute to the relevant disorders caused by abnormal levels of the studied hormones in the people who are chewing

The Villainous Moor： Eleazar in Dekker＇s Lust＇s Dominion （1600）

The article explores the disruptive social contexts and inter-racial rela- tionships in Thomas Dekker＇s Lust＇s Dominion （c.1599-1600） [Collier found out about its original performance date, which was in February 1600, and that it was first published in 1657 （Collier 1827, p. 264）] with focus on the Moorish Eleazar. The play is about race, lust, revenge and politics. The Elizabethan experienced a cultural blend and a fear of Africans and other foreigners. Like Dekker, Elizabethan dramatists imparted well-known contemporary prejudices and stereotypes on those of specific origin in Africa based solely on their dark skin. Elizabethan shows reinforced the image of the Moor as cruel, tyrannical and deceitful. The African Moors are portrayed to the Elizabethan expectations as being demi-devil, deceitful, lascivious, unpleasant, merciless egotist as soon as he appears. The depiction of the evil Moor contributes to Elizabethan superiority as an intrinsic right. Dekker illustrates the pervasive racism of Elizabethan Europe and the plain consequences of this institutionalized prejudice.
