Several dynamic tests with vasoactive drags are available for evaluating penile vascular inflows and outflows,ranging from simple pharmacologic test to more invasive radiologic sets. However, there is still no perfect single testto reflect the penile vascular flow. All possible efforts should be exerted to get the greatest erectile effect to avoid anunderestimation of blood flow to the corpora due to incomplete relaxation of the trabecular smooth *** of the type and frequency of anatomical variations and potential collateral routes is important in interpretingpenile arterograms and in evaluating the hemodynamic significance of suspected arterial disease. Choice of the vasculartests should always depend on the purpose of testing.

This study aimed to represent the recent trends in the nationwide incidence of cryptorchidism and hypospadias in Korea, and to determine whether there is evidence of spatial heterogeneity in the incidence. The incidence was calculated as the number of newly diagnosed patients （males） during the first 4 years after a live birth in a population, nationally and regionally （a non-industrialized area （Chuncheon） and petrochemical estates （Yeocheon and Ulsan））, between 2000 and 2005. The data （numerator） for new patients were acquired from the National Health Insurance Review Agency, and the data （denominator） for the resident registration population were from the National Statistical Office. Between 2000 and 2005, the national incidence of cryptorchidism and hypospadias had an increased tendency from 5.01 to 17.43 per 10 000 persons and from 1.40 to 3.28 per 10 000 persons, respectively. The incidence of cryptorchidism was significantly higher in Yeocheon （throughout the study period） and in Ulsan （2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005） than the national incidence, whereas the incidence in Chuncheon was significantly lower in 2001 and 2002. It was difficult to compare the rates of hypospadias yearly and regionally because of the small number of cases. In conclusion, the incidence of cryptorchidism has recently increased in Korea. The petrochemical estates, Yeocheon and Ulsan, had a significantly higher incidence of cyptorchidism than the national incidence, which suggests that further study is needed to obtain a more precise estimation of the trends in the incidence of the anomalies and to confirm the association between petrochemicals and the anomalies.

Aim: To investigate whether estrogen was involved in relaxation of rabbit cavernous smooth muscle. Methods: Relaxation response of the rabbit cavernous smooth muscles to 17β-estradiol (0.3, 3, 30 and 300 nmol/L) were observed in vitro. The response of the muscle strips to estrogen after incubation with either actinomycin D (10μmol/L) or L-NAME (10μmol/L) were also evaluated. Inside-out mode of patch clamp in a single smooth muscle cell was applied to investigate the Maxi-K channel activities. Results: Estrogen caused a dose-dependent relaxation of the strips precontracted with norepinephrine. The maximal response was noted about 10 minutes after treatment. The estrogen-induced relaxation was prevented by neither actinomycin D nor L-NAME, suggesting that the response was not mediated by gene transcription or nitric oxide (NO). Application of 17β-estradiol increased the Maxi-K channel activities. Conclusion: 17β-estradiol may be involved in relaxation of rabbit cavernous smooth muscles via a non genomic and NO independent mechanism. 17β-estradiol stimulates Maxi-K channel of the rabbit cavernous myocyte.

Aim： To investigate how erectile dysfunction （ED） medications affect morning erection in patients with ED and how they respond to the return of morning erection. Methods： This study was conducted in 120 patients who experienced successful intercourse with either tadalafil or sildenafil. Using a random face-to-face interview and a questionnaire （about the quality and number of days getting morning erection after using the two medications）, the impact of the medications on the morning erections was investigated, and the participants were asked about their feelings on regaining morning erection. Results： Of the respondents, 81% （68% of those with sildenafil and 99% of those with tadalafil） experienced morning erections after taking an oral ED medication. The men who took tadalafil mainly for 2 days with one dose, while those who took sildenafil experienced morning erections mainly for 1 day. The major sentiment upon regaining a morning erection was, ＂having more confidence as a man＂（74%）. Among the 96 respondents who experienced morning erections with tadalafil, 52% preferred tadalafil over sildenafil, not only because of freedom from concerns about a specific time to have relations, but also regaining morning erection. Conclusion： Regaining a morning erection affects the recovery of confidence as a man and influences the preference for tadalafil over sildenafil.

Over the last four decades, rapid industrialisation and a Westernized lifestyle have changed disease patterns in South Korea. This study was conducted to review the current state of men＇s health in South Korea. By reviewing reports of government authorities and domestic and foreign studies related to men＇s health, we found that in men ~〉 65 years of age, 28.4% considered their health status good, whereas 38.3% considered their health status poor. The prevalence of moderate-to-severe lower urinary tract symptoms was similar to that in Caucasians. The prevalence of erectile dysfunction was higher than the global average. The incidence of cryptorchidism and hypospadias showed a tendency towards increase. The prevalence of diabetes mellitus continuously increased by 10.8% in 2008 and was the fifth leading cause of death in 2008. The prevalence of obesity increased from 26.0% in 1998 to 31.7% in 2007. The prevalence of ischaemic heart disease has continuously increased, with heart diseases causing one of every 12 deaths. The prevalence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in 2005 was 17.2% among adults 〉~ 45 years of age. The top five prevalent cancers in men, in descending order, were cancers of the stomach, lung, liver, large bowel and prostate, among which the incidence of stomach, lung and liver cancers decreased by 0.7%, 0.6% and 2.2%, respectively, from 1999 to 2007, whereas the incidence of large bowel and prostate cancers increased by 7.0% and 13.2%, respectively. The prevalence of depression, dementia and sleep disorders was estimated as 17.3%, 4.21% and 20.2%, respectively. Together, these findings suggest that disease patterns in South Korean men are becoming Westernized.

Aim： To evaluate the efficacy and safety of SK3530, a newly developed type 5 phosphodiesterase inhibitor （PDE5I）, in Korean men with erectile dysfunction （ED）. Methods： A total of 119 patients were randomized at 10 centers in Korea to receive either SK3530 （50, 100, or 150 mg; n = 89） or placebo （n = 30） taken 1 h before anticipated sexual activity for an 8-week period. The patients were evaluated at baseline and 4 and 8 weeks after beginning therapy. Efficacy was assessed using the International Index of Erectile Function （IIEF）, Sexual Encounter Profile （SEP）, and the Global Assessment Question （GAQ）. Safety was analyzed by adverse events, laboratory values and vital signs. Results： At the end of the study, all the primary and secondary efficacy end-points were statistically significantly improved by SK3530 compared with placebo （P 〈 0.05）. Of the 89 patients in the treatment arm, 36 （42.3 %） achieved normal erectile function after treatment, including six patients with severe ED. Treatment-related adverse events occurred in 32 patients. The most common adverse events were flushing, headache, dizziness and eye redness （10.9%, 7.6%, 2.5% and 2.5%, respectively）, and most were mild. Only two patients discontinued treatment during the study period because of adverse events. Conclusion： The results of our phase Ⅱ study have confirmed the efficacy and safety of SK3530 in a broad population of men with ED of various etiologies and severity. The optimal doses in terms of efficacy and safety were determined to be 50 mg and 100 mg, respectively.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS)is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the degeneration of motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord,leading to muscle weakness,paralysis,and ultimately death(Cleveland and Rothstein,2001).Frontotemporal lobar degeneration(FTLD)is a neurodegenerative disease affecting the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain,leading to changes in behavior,personality,and language(Van Langenhove et al.,2012).Both ALS and FTLD are classified as proteinopathies in which abnormal protein aggregation and accumulation in neurons contribute to the disease *** in sarcoma(FUS)is a DNA/RNA-binding protein involved in various cellular processes,including transcriptional regulation,RNA splicing,and DNA *** in the FUS gene have been linked to familial ALS,highlighting the importance of FUS in the disease pathogenesis(Vance et al.,2009).In ALS and FTLD,aberrant post-translational modifications(PTMs)of FUS,such as phosphorylation,acetylation,and methylation,have been implicated in the promotion of FUS aggregation and neurotoxicity(Choi et al.,2023).Therefore,understanding the regulatory mechanisms of FUS PTMs is crucial for developing targeted therapies against these diseases.
