A Comparison of Amniotic Fluid Index versus Single Deepest Vertical Pocket Measurement at Term as a Predictor of Adverse Perinatal Outcome

Introduction: Oligohydramnios is an important sign of fetal jeopardy and amniotic fluid index (AFI) and single deepest vertical pocket (SDVP) have been used to detect it. Objective: To compare AFI vs. SDVP at term as a predictor of adverse perinatal outcomes. Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted in Teaching Hospital Kandy, Sri Lanka for eight months from July 2015 to March 2016. 448 Singleton pregnancies admitted after 37 completed weeks were included. AFI ≤ 5 cm and SDVP < 2 cm were the exposure variables, which were related to outcome variables. Results: Mean AFI was 11.35 cm (SD = 5.15) and Mean SDVP was 4.07 cm (SD = 1.88). AFI and SDVP values showed a significant positive correlation (r = 0.954;p < 0.001). A significant percentage with low AFI needed induction of labour (RR 2.14, 95% CI 1.85 - 2.49). Low AFI was also a significant risk factor for not having an uneventful birth outcome (RR 2.682, 95% CI 1.082 - 6.642). Low SDVP was a significant risk factor for induction of labour (RR 1.83, 95% CI 1.434 - 2.334), operative delivery (RR 1.714, 95% CI 1.292 - 2.280), meconium-stained liquor (RR 2.67, 95% CI 1.342 - 5.308), and Apgar < 7 (RR 17.74, 95% CI 7.96 - 40.924). SDVP had better predictability than AFI for adverse perinatal outcomes. Conclusion: AFI better predicted oligohydramnios and subsequent labour induction than SDVP. Low SDVP was a risk factor for adverse perinatal outcomes (such as induction of labour, meconium-stained liquor, operative delivery, 5-minute Apgar less < 7, admission to special care baby units or perinatal deaths). In predicting adverse perinatal events, a higher potential was noted in SDVP method than AFI method. To determine the most predictive cut-off values of SDVP and AFI for each perinatal outcome, an in-depth experimental analysis is required in future research.

Flood damage assessment(FDA)is a key component of risk-based method for flood *** the current FDA approaches,generally the uniqueness of the building is disregarded in the ***,they are unfit for detailed applications in which case-by-case analysis of building damage is an essential *** limitation is compounded by the use of incomplete and often low-quality data inputs about the building and the assumptions and approximations made regarding the geometry and materials of its *** shortcomings may result in incomplete and uncertain *** the benefits and increasing use of three-dimensional(3D)urban modeling and Building Information Model in various urban management processes,in this paper,an integrated framework for utilization of detailed 3D building models for the assessment and 3D visualization of flood damage to building according to its distinct behavior against flood is presented.A proof-ofconcept demonstration of the framework in a case study underlined the feasibility of implementation of the framework,which can potentially benefit a variety of users and be used as a complementary approach to the current FDA methods for improving the resilience of the community toward floods and their adverse impacts.

Full Scale Explosive Tests in Woomera, Australia

Two large explosion trials (5 000 kg TNT and 500 kg ANFO) were conducted in Woomera, Australia in April/May 2006. Advance Protective Technologies for Engineering Structures (APTES) group tested 2 large single-storey concrete modules with individual components such as doors, windows and tiled panels. A description of the trial and details of various modules tested in these trials are presented in the paper. Numerical modelling and simulations are performed using computer programs, CONWEP, AIR3D and AUTODYN. A comparison of the pressure time histories obtained using these codes is made along with the concluding remarks.

Influence of urban morphological factors on building energy consumption combined with photovoltaic potential: A case study of residential blocks in central China

Studies on urban energy have been growing in interest,and past research has mostly been focused on studies of urban solar potential or urban building energy consumption ***,holistic research on the combination of urban building energy consumption and solar potential at the urban block-scale is required in order to minimize energy use and maximize solar power generation *** aim of this study is to comprehensively evaluate the impact of urban morphological factors on photovoltaic(PV)potential and building energy ***,58 residential blocks were classified into 6 categories by k-means ***,3 energy performance factors,which include the energy use intensity(EUI),the energy use intensity combined with PV potential(EUI-PV),and photovoltaic substitution rate(PSR)were calculated for these *** study found that the EUI of the Small Length&High Height blocks was the lowest at around 30 kWh/(m^(2)·y),while the EUI-PV of the Small Length&Low Height blocks was the lowest at around 4.45 kWh/(m^(2)·y),and their PSR was the highest at 87%.Regression modelling was carried out,and the study concluded that the EUI of residential blocks was mainly affected by shape factor,building density and floor area ratio,while EUI-PV and PSR were mainly affected by height and sky view *** this study,the results and developed methodology are helpful to provide recommendations and strategies for sustainable planning of residential blocks in central China.

An Approximation of the Customer Waiting Time for Online Restaurants Owning Delivery System

Online restaurants, which receive online orders and deliver food directly to the customer’s residence, are becoming increasingly popular. To be successful, online restaurants need to provide reliable and prompt deliveries. Careful design of the meal preparation and order delivery systems is needed to avoid excessive cust omer waiting time bet ween ordering and delivery. This paper considers the meal preparation and delivery processes simultaneously to approximate average customer waiting time for deliveries. The authors first discuss the system performance with one cook and unit-capacity delivery vehicles, using an M/G/1queue and a GI/G/1queue. Numerical experiments show that our approximation can adequately describe real waiting times. Then, series queues with multiple cooks and multi-capacity delivery vehicles, e.g., an M/G/n queue and a GI/Gn/1 queue, are examined. Results show that except for situations with a large meal preparation time and a small vehicle capacity, compared with the result of simulation, the approximation in this paper is acceptable with a deviation of less than 20%. The marginal decrease in waiting time associated with hiring more vehicles is *** under different meal preparation speeds, sizes of service area and vehicle capacities.

Study of Volatility Stochastic Processes in the Context of Solvency Forecasting for Sri Lankan Life Insurers

The main business of Life Insurers is Long Term contractual obligations with a typical lifetime of 20 - 40 years. Therefore, the Solvency metric is defined by the adequacy of capital to service the cash flow requirements arising from the said obligations. The main component inducing volatility in Capital is market sensitive Assets, such as Bonds and Equity. Bond and Equity prices in Sri Lanka are highly sensitive to macro-economic elements such as investor sentiment, political stability, policy environment, economic growth, fiscal stimulus, utility environment and in the case of Equity, societal sentiment on certain companies and industries. Therefore, if an entity is to accurately forecast the impact on solvency through asset valuation, the impact of macro-economic variables on asset pricing must be modelled mathematically. This paper explores mathematical, actuarial and statistical concepts such as Brownian motion, Markov Processes, Derivation and Integration as well as Probability theorems such as the Probability Density Function in determining the optimum mathematical model which depicts the accurate relationship between macro-economic variables and asset pricing.
