Human occupation explains species invasion better than biotic stability:evaluating Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam.(Moraceae;jackfruit)invasion in the Neotropics

Aims Biological invasions are recognized to put native species in risk of *** this study,I tested whether the invasion of Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam.(Moraceae;jackfruit)in the Neotropics was explained by its biotic stability,an intrinsic force,or by human occupation,an extrinsic *** I used an ensemble framework combining 12 ecological niche models(ENMs)and 4 atmosphere-ocean general circulation *** were constructed for the pre-industrial time period in the Indo-Malaya biogeographic region,the native habitat of ***,and were then projected to past(last glacial maximum,21000 years ago and mid-Holocene,6000 years ago)and future(end of century,2080)*** ENMs were used to establish the biotic stability of ***-phyllus in areas where it was predicted to be present concomitantly within these four time *** biotic stability was projected onto the Neotropics,and then I used a null model and logistic regression to test what the main driver of *** *** Findings In general,the presence of *** in the Neotropics was not explained by biotic stability,tested by the null ***,human occupation explained much of its presence in the invaded habitat,once all standardized coefficients related to this driver was significant positive in the logistic *** on these results,humans sustained the presence of ***-erophyllus in the Neotropics,probably because of the additive influences of propagule pressure and habitat ***,the recommendation is that the cultivation of *** in the Neotropics must be regulated and supervised,primarily near reserve areas.

Geographic information technologies(GIT)have matured,have become pervasive throughout many types of organizations over recent decades and gained a wide range of attention in diverse sectors of *** goal of this paper is to identify the main drivers and uses of GIT in organizations and to give an overview of GIT uses in developing countries with a focus on a case study developed for Mozambique by analyzing the results of a survey of 123 Mozambican organizations that are current GIT *** results show that the main drivers behind are compatibility,complexity,competitive pressure,donor pressure,government policy,intention to adopt,innovation,relative advantage,security,and technology *** of the public and private sectors use GIT for customer/resource/risk management,decision support,education,research,monitoring,prediction,simulation,suitability analysis,sustainability,use and access.

Protein tyrosine phosphorylation of the human sperm head during capacitation： immunolocalization and relationship with acquisition of sperm-fertilizing ability

The occurrence of tyrosine phosphorylation （TP） in the sperm head during capacitation has been poorly investigated, and no data exist on the relationship of its dynamics with the acquisition of sperm fertilizing ability. This study localized TP of head proteins in human spermatozoa during capacitation and explored its relationship with acquisition of the ability to display progesterone （P）-stimulated acrosome reactions （ARs） and to penetrate zona-free hamster oocytes. By immunofluorescence, TP immunoreactivity was revealed in the acrosomal region of formaldehyde-fixed/unpermeabilized samples, whereas it was abolished in fixed/permeabilized samples, in which TP immunoreactivity was high in the principal piece. No TP immunoreaetivity was detectable in unfixed spermatozoa. Head TP immunoreactivity was localized externally to the acrosome, close to the cytoplasmic membrane, as assessed by transmission electron microscopy. The increase in head TP was an early event during capacitation, occurring within 1 h in capacitating conditions. At this time, the P-stimulated ARs were also increased, whereas egg penetration was as poor as in uncapacitated spermatozoa. At 5 h of capacitation, the extent of neither head TP nor the P-induced ARs were greater than that at 1 h, whereas egg penetration had significantly increased. Seminal plasma inhibited head TP, P-induced ARs and egg penetration. None of these inhibitory effects, unlike those on tail TP, were prevented by the cAMP analogue dbcAMP （N,2-O-dibutyryladenosine 3＇,5＇-cyclic monophosphate）. In conclusion, head TP is a subsurface event occurring early during capacitation and is closely related to acquisition of the ability to display P-stimulated ARs, whereas the ability to fuse with oolemma and to decondense is a later capacitation-related event.

This study evaluates the on use of crushed rocks(remineralizers)to increase soil fertility levels and which contributed to increase agricultural productivity,recovery of degraded areas,decontamination of water,and carbon *** use of these geological materials is part of the assumptions of rock technology and,indirectly,facilitates the achievement of sustainable development goals related to soil management,climate change,and the preservation of water *** over the past 50 years on silicate rocks focused on soil fertility management and agricultural *** recently,the combined use with microorganisms and organic correctives have shown positive results to mitigate soil degradation;to expand carbon sequestration and storage;and to contribute to the adsorption of contaminants from water and *** this article we show results obtained in several countries and we show that this technology can contribute to the sustainability of agriculture,as well as to reverse global *** mineral nutrients are released more slowly from these types of inputs,they remain in the soil for a longer time,stimulating the soil *** addition,they are a technology to soluble synthetic fertilizers replace,since the few nutrients derived from such inputs not consumed by plants are lost by leaching,contaminating groundwater and water *** addition,conventional methods rely heavily on chemical pesticides which cause damage to soil’s microfauna(responsible for the decomposition of organic matter and nutrient cycling)and the loss of organic carbon(in the form of dioxide),which is quickly dispersed in the *** rock powders are applied in natura,have long-lasting residual effects and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Decontamination of mobile phones and electronic devices for health care professionals using a chlorhexidine/carbomer 940■gel

Though they reduce microorganism growth, current hospital disinfectants also damage many of today’s modern electronic devices such as tablets and smartphones. Herein, the efficacy of a new chlorhexidine digluconate gel (cDG) was tested as a disinfectant for mobile and electronic devices in a clinical environment. Specifically, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus were used to infect the screen of eight smartphones. The cDG was prepared at concentrations of 2%, 4% and 6%, and tested on paper disks infected with these bacteria before being tested on the smartphones. The devices were disinfected with the cDG gel (4%) at two times: immediately and after 5 min of the bacterial contamination. In all cases, the cDG gel eliminated 100% of gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms compared to the control (without any agent). In addition, the gel did not damage the smartphones. Therefore, our study suggests that the cDG gel may be applied to disinfect a wide range of electronic devices for health care professionals in the hospital environment.

Prevalence,genotypes and factors associated with HcV infection among prisoners in Northeastern Brazil

AIM： To determine hepatitis c virus （HcV） seropreva- lence and its genotypes, and to identify the factors associated with HcV infection. METHODS： This cross-sectional study, conducted in two prisons （one male and one female） in the State of Ser- gipe, Brazil, comprised 422 subjects. All of the prisoners underwent a rapid test for the detection of HcV antibod- ies. Patient~ with a positive result were tested for anti- HcV by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay and for HcV RNA by qualitative polymerase chain reaction （PcR）. The virus genotype was defined in every serum sample that presented positive for PcR-HcV. In order to determine the factors independently associated with positive serol- ogy for HcV, multivariate logistic regression was used. RESULTS： HcV seroprevalence was 3.1%. Of the 13 subjects with positive anti-HcV, 11 had viremia confirmed by PcR. Of these, 90.9% had genotype 1. A total of 43 （10.2%） were injecting drug users, and HcV seroprevalence in this subgroup was 20.6%. The variable most strongly associated with positive serology for HcV was use of injecting drugs [odds ratio （OR）, 23.3; 95% confidence interval （cI）, 6.0-90.8]. Age over 30 years （OR, 5.5; 95%cI, 1.1-29.2）, history of syphilis （OR, 9.8; 95%cI, 1.7-55.2） and history of household contact with HcV positive individual （OR, 14.1; 95%cI, 2.3-85.4） were also independently associated with HcV infection. cONcLUSION： Most of the HcV transmissions result from parenteral exposure. However, there is evidence to suggest a role for sex and household contact with an infected subject in virus transmission.

Distribution of trace metals and Pb isotopes in bottom sediments of the Murucupi River,North Brazil

The Murucupi River belongs to the hydrographic network of the Para River estuary,at the southern portion of the Amazon River mouth,which consists of a fluvial-marine transitional zone under strong impact of both tidal and fluvial *** geochemical results obtained for bottom sediments from the Murucupi River,the Arrozal channel,and the Para River indicate a natural variation of Pb,cr,cu,Zn,and Ni content among these water ways with no significant anthropogenic *** to the threshold effects level(TEL),the contents of trace metals do not offer risk to the local *** contrast,the differences in the Pb isotopic composition of sediments in the Murucupi River,the Arrozal channel,and the Para River are *** isotopic signatures indicate an anthropogenic contribution of Pb in the Murucupi River originating from the domestic effluents of urban centers;industrial waste represented by red mud is not *** results demonstrate that the Pb isotopic signature is a prospective indicator for future contamination of bottom sediments by trace metals and is useful for identifying contaminants among the possible anthropogenic sources.

In this article,we explored the role of adipose tissue,especially mesenteric adipose tissue and creeping fat,and its association with the gut microbiota in the pathophysiology and progression of crohn’s disease(cD).cD is a form of inflammatory bowel disease characterized by chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract,influenced by genetic predisposition,gut microbiota dysbiosis,and environmental *** microbiota plays a crucial role in modulating immune response and intestinal inflammation and is associated with the onset and progression of ***,visceral adipose tissue,particularly creeping fat,a mesenteric adipose tissue characterized by hypertrophy and fibrosis,has been implicated in cD pathogenesis,inflammation,and *** bacteria from the gut microbiota may translocate into mesenteric adipose tissue,contributing to the formation of creeping fat and influencing cD *** creeping fat may be a protective barrier against bacterial invasion,its expansion can damage adjacent tissues,leading to *** gut microbiota through interventions such as fecal microbiota transplantation,probiotics,and prebiotics has shown potential in managing ***,more research is needed to clarify the mechanisms linking gut dysbiosis,creeping fat,and cD progression and develop targeted therapies for microbiota modulation and fat-related complications in patients with cD.
