Background: toxic gases and fumes prompted from petrol and gas stations imply their disabling and deadly risks on human lungs. Aim of Work: The aim of this work was to assess the pulmonary function derangements in petrol pump workers at Al-Medina Al-Munawara city. Patients and Methods: This cross sectional study was conducted on 189 cases out of them in control group (group I) with age and sex matched healthy adult males gathered from nonsmokers students and employees in Taibah University. The study group (group II) comprised of 89 males who were working in different petrol pump stations. History, clinical examination and pulmonary functional assessment were carried out by using portable spirometry, Co detector and puls oximeter. Results: The study’s results showoed that the lung function parameters (FEV1, FVC, PEFR, FEFR25% - 75%) were significantly reduced in petrol pump workers (Group II) as compared to the values for these parameters in subjects belonging to Group II (Control group), similar findings were observed in previous studies on pulmonary functions in petrol-pump workers. This finding specified the restrictive nature of pulmonary involvement in the study group. Measurement of the exhaled CO was slightly higher in Group II than Group I. Conclusion: Fuel vapors and fumes in petrol stations showed direct incapacitating impact on workers pulmonary functions regarding spirometric measurements showing predominantly restrictive pattern and to less extent obstructive. Exhaled CO level was higher in addition to hypoxemia identified in these cases.

strong>Background:strong> Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic disease that is characterized by β-cell dysfunction and resistance for insulin. Vitamin D is necessary for insulin secretion so it is a crucial factor in the development of T2DM. This study was done to investigate the association between serum 25-hydroxy Vitamin D [25(OH)3D], VDR (Vitamin D receptor) and VDBP (Vitamin D binding protein) with type 2 diabetic patients compared to control subjects.strong> subjects and Methods:strong> This study carried out 110 female patients who were previously diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and 110 age, sex and weight matched as controls. All participants were subjected to full history taking, clinical examination and assessment of fasting blood glucose, HbA1c , lipid profile, 25-hydroxy Vitamin D [25(OH)3D], VDR and VDBP. strong>Results:strong> Results showed that the level of 25(OH)3D was significantly lower in diabetic group compared to controls and was significantly negatively correlated with glycated hemoglobin, serum total cholesterol and low density lipoprotein cholesterol in type 2 DM. Decreasing Vitamin D level was significantly associated with decreasing VDR. No significant association was found between Vit D and VDBP levels. strong>Conclusions:strong> Vitamin D deficiency is frequent in diabetic patients and associated with poor control and outcome. This suggests a role of Vitamin D in the pathogenesis and control of T2DM. serum VDBP in diabetes may be independent to the level of 25(OH)3D and needs further studies.

IEEE 802.11s Wireless Mesh Networks for Last-Mile Internet Access: An Open-source Real-World Indoor Testbed Implementation

Due to their easy-to-deploy and self-healing features, WMNs (Wireless Mesh Networks) are emerging as a new promising technology with a rich set of applications. While the IEEE standardization of this new technology is still in progress, its main traits are already set, e.g., architecture and MAC routing. WMNs are attracting considerable research in academia and industry as well, but the lack of open-source testbeds is restricting such a research to simulation tools. The main problem with simulation tools is that they do not reflect the complexity of RF propagation, especially in indoor environments, of which IEEE 802.11s WMNs are an example. This paper presents an open-source implementation of an indoor IEEE 802.11s WMN testbed. The implementation is transparent, easy-to-deploy, and both the source code and deployment instructions are available online. The implementation can serve as a blueprint for the WMN research community to deploy their own testbeds, negating the shortcomings of using simulation tools. By delving into the testbed implementation subtleties, this paper is shedding further light on the details of the ongoing IEEE 802.11s standard. Major encountered implementation problems (e.g., clients association, Internetworking, and supporting multiple gateways) are identified and addressed. To ascertain the functionality of the testbed, both UDP and TCP traffic are supported and operational. The testbed uses the default IEEE 802.11s HWMP (Hybrid Wireless Mesh Protocol) routing protocol along with the default IEEE 802.11s Airtime routing metric.

Anatomical and Histopathologic Analysis of Placenta in Dilation and Evacuation specimens

Background: Anatomical and histopathologic examination of placenta in cases of abortion is crucial as to clarify the underlying causes of many adverse pregnancy outcomes. Dilation and evacuation (D&E) is the most common mode of uterine evacuation that commonly examined in pathology sections. The aim of this study is to discuss the various placental pathologies, and to demonstrate the importance of careful pathologic examination of D&E material, also to review the anatomy of placenta and to compare our findings with other publications worldwide. Material and Methods: A retrospective descriptive study for 200 placental tissues was collected in 18 months period and revised for normal anatomy and various placental pathologies. These placentas were obtained by dilation and evacuation (D&E) technique. All cases were undergone for histopathological sections that were stained by Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E). Results: Placental infarction was observed in 25% of cases, and chorioammnitis was the most common form of placental infection and found in 12.5%. Molar changes were represented a lowered percentage of placental pathologies that found in 9% of specimens. Conclusion: study and recognition of placental lesions among general surgical pathologists have clinical significance and awareness of deficiency, standardization of diagnostic criteria, and increased knowledge in placental pathology improve the quality of diagnosis in this area.

Thermomechanical Testing of GGG 40 spheroidal Graphite Cast Iron Alloy

spheroidal graphite cast iron GGG 40 was thermo-mechanically tested using thermo-mechanical simulator Gleeble-3500. Three deformation steps were successively applied on test-specimen at temperatures namely;900°C, 850°C and 750°C within the austenitic zone, at the same strain rate of 0.1 s-1. No cracks were observed, up to 50% deformation, after successive deformation steps. stress-strain relationship obtained is correlated with previous work on sGCI with a different carbon equivalent. It was found that by decreasing the deformation temperature;for the same CE, young’s modulus, yield strength and strain hardening exponent increase. Microstructure of the deformed zone, for a specimen quenched after the final deformation step, reveals fine elongated ferrite and pearlite, as well as elongated graphite. While microstructure of the non-deformed zone subjected to the same treatment, includes coarser ferrite and pearlite with graphite spheres embedded in the matrix.

Effect of Deformation Parameters on Microstructural Evolution of GGG 40 spheroidal Graphite Cast Iron Alloy

studying the thermo-mechanical behavior of ductile iron is necessary to develop the rolling process for ductile iron sheet/strip production, thus, extending its application by replacing steel in several fields such as machine casing, constructional applications, etc. In order to predict the safe rolling conditions for producing sheets and strips, the thermo-mechanical behavior of a ductile iron alloy, with CE of 4.48, is studied by physical simulation of hot rolling process using Gleeble-3500 simulator. The test was conducted on specimens at a range of deformation temperatures from 800°C to 950°C while three different strain rates;namely 0.05, 0.1 and 0.5 s-1 were used. The results obtained, show minimum values of flow stresses at 850°C. By increasing the deformation temperature up to 900°C, the flow stresses increased to reach maximum values, beyond which the flow stress decreased again. A remarkable dynamic recrystallization is observed at the deformation temperatures of 850°C and 800°C with applied strain rates of 0.05 and 0.1 s-1. Gleeble test results are correlated with microstructure observations on samples quenched at their deformation temperatures, where the changes in structure and graphite morphology are reported. The deformation process at high temperatures namely 950°C and 900°C result in changing the graphite shape from a spheroidal-like to a saucer-like shape. However, by decreasing the deformation temperature to 850°C as well as 800°C, graphite with lamellar shape is observed. As a conclusion, ductile iron could be successfully deformed without cracking at the applied conditions.

害虫对农业生产造成严重的威胁和损害。小地老虎Agrotis ipsilon(Hufnagel)属鳞翅目夜蛾科,是重要的地下害虫之一,其寄主范围广泛,能够危害多种农作物、园艺作物和观赏植物,通常使用化学合成杀虫剂如氯虫苯甲酰胺、毒死蜱、溴氰菊酯等防治小地老虎。杀虫剂的不合理使用,会导致害虫对杀虫剂产生抗药性、农药残留等负面效应。因此,需要寻找新的害虫控制策略在防治害虫的同时减少对人类、环境和非目标物种的危害。凤眼莲Eichhornia crassipes(Mart.)solms是最具破坏性的漂浮水生杂草之一,一株植物在一个月内可繁殖超过48000株新植株。凤眼莲每年浪费约30亿m水资源可用于灌溉404685.6 m地区,对水生生物栖息地造成了极大的危害。此外,凤眼莲危害还会产生富营养化,危害水生生态系统。中国每年由于凤眼莲造成的直接经济损失近100亿元。如果能够从凤眼莲植株中提取出有效的杀虫活性物质,不仅可为凤眼莲的综合治理提供新途径,还可为害虫治理提供新方法。为此,本研究拟对凤眼莲植物丙酮和乙醇提取物,对小地老虎幼虫的毒理学潜力及其对模式动物大白鼠的安全性评价进行系统评价。主要研究结果如下:1)凤眼莲提取物对小地老虎2龄幼虫的杀虫活性采用浸叶法,测定了不同溶剂(石油醚(***.)、丙酮(AP)、乙醇(Et P)、丙酮馏分(AcF)和乙醇馏分(Et F))提取物对小地老虎二龄幼虫的杀虫活性。结果表明,AcF和Et F提取物在1000 mg/L(校正死亡率:93.33%)和500 mg/L(校正死亡率66.67%)对小地老虎的杀虫活性最强。AcF、Et F、AP、Et P和***.等提取物对小地老虎二龄幼虫的LC分别为240、370、490、2000和3900 mg/L。提取物(***.,AP,Et P,AcF,Et F)的浓度越高,小地老虎的幼虫死亡率越高。此外,凤眼莲提取物影响小地老虎成虫羽化、幼虫和蛹的发育历期以及蛹重等生物学特性,对成虫羽化的总抑制率与所有测试提取物的浓度成正比。凤眼莲提取物对小地老虎活性效果排序为:AcF、Et F、AP、Et P、***.2)凤眼莲提取物对小地老虎幼虫的生化代谢影响通过定量分光光度法,分析LC浓度的凤眼莲提取物(AcF(240 mg/L)和Et F(370mg/L)对小地老虎幼虫总代谢物(总碳水化合物、总脂和总蛋白)及解毒酶活性的影响,包括磷酸酶(酸性(ACP)和碱性(ALP)磷酸酶)、转氨酶(谷丙转氨酶(ALT))和天冬氨酸转氨酶(AsT),一些解毒/抗性酶(乙酰胆碱酯酶(ACh E)、谷胱甘肽-s-转移酶(GsT)、α-和β-酯酶)。AcF提取物处理后,总碳水化合物和总蛋白显著升高(PsT(194.30和168.57 mg/g)显著高于对照组。AcF提取物处理导致β-酯酶活性显著降低,而Et F提取物处理导致α-酯酶和GsT活性显著升高。AcF和Et F两种提取物处理均导致小地老虎幼虫ACh E的活性显著降低,分别为65.05和89.84μg/min/g.3)凤眼莲不同溶剂提取物的化学成分采取GC-Ms技术,分离鉴定了凤眼莲提取物的主要成分。结果表明,丙酮提取物(AcF)中检测到31个化合物,主要成分为正十六烷酸(16.72%)、亚麻酸(11.13%)、十六烷酸(9.35%)、六氢法尼基丙酮(9.03%)、叶绿醇(3.79%)、2-苯基十一烷(2.83%)、2-苯基十二烷(2.75%)、六氢法尼醇(2.60%)、新植二烯(2.39%)、2-苯基十三烷(2.24%)、12,15-十八碳二烯酸甲酯(2.21%)、8-十八碳烯酸甲酯(2.16%)、6-苯基十二烷(2.08%)、邻苯二甲酸,总含量为93.72%。乙醇提取物(Et F)中检测到31个化合物,主要成分为85.12%为十六烷酸乙酯(7.86%)、2-苯基-十三烷(6.30%)、2-苯基-十二烷(6.22%)、十六烷酸(5.51%)、6-苯基-十三烷(4.99%)、3-苯基-十三烷(4.47%)、5-苯基-十三烷(3.66%)、4-苯基-十三烷(3.56%)、3-苯基-十二烷(3.49%)、油酸(3.39%)、2-苯基-十一烷(3.37%)、十六烷酸甲酯(3.04%)、6-苯基-十二烷

Trace Gas Detection from Plant Leaves, Flowers and seeds Using Conventional and Photothermal Light Deflection spectroscopy

Photothermal deflection spectroscopy is a method used indirectly to measure optical absorption of a sample. Different techniques can be employed to measure the amount of deflection, hence evaluate optical absorption of sample. This work investigates an alternative method both in principle and technique to measure sample’s optical absorption. The new method employed for the first time, relies on the simple idea of light beam deflection from the medium under investigation as a result of change in the index of refraction in its vicinity. The amount of deviation executed by the deviated beam is estimated using new technique that is used for the first time in deflection spectroscopy. As the deviated beam is allowed to pass through a single slit, the value of beam deflection is estimated from the resulting diffraction pattern, i.e. indicating the value of changes taking place in the sample and or measure sample’s optical absorption. The new detection technique used in the estimation of probe beam deflection was also applied in photothermal spectroscopy. Results from both methods were compared and revealed the ease of use of the new method, in addition it cuts cost and experimental efforts although its sensitivity is less than the conventional photothermal method.

The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)global public health emergency,has exposed the fragility of health *** to healthcare became a scarce commodity as healthcare providers and resource-poor populations became victims of the novel corona ***,this study focuses on Africa’s readiness to integrate telemedicine into the weak health systems and its adoption may help alleviate poor healthcare and poverty after *** conducted a narrative review through different search strategies in scopus on January 20,2021,to identify available literature reporting implementation of various telemedicine modes in Africa from January 1,2011 to December 31,*** summarized 54 studies according to geographies,field,and implementation *** results show a willingness to adopt telemedicine in the resource-poor settings and hard-to-reach populations,which will bring relief to the inadequate healthcare systems and alleviate poverty of those who feel the burden of healthcare cost the *** adequate government financing,telemedicine promises to enhance the treating of communicable and non-communicable diseases as well as support health *** can also alleviate poverty among vulnerable groups and hard-to-reach communities in Africa with adequate government ***,given the lack of funding in Africa,the challenges in implementing telemedicine require global and national strategies before it can yield promising *** is especially true in regards to alleviating the multidimensionality of poverty in post-COVID-19 Africa.

Comparative study of surgical Approaches for Distractive Flexion Injuries of sub-Axial Cervical spine

Distractive flexion injuries (DFI) of subaxial cervical spine are common after motor car accident or falling from height. The ideal surgical approaches to DFI are still unclear. A retrospective comparative study of surgical approaches for DFI of sub-axial cervical spine involved 60 patients throughout the years 2014 to 2016 at Al-Azhar University Hospitals. All patients were undergoing initial routine resuscitative measures, full general and neurological examinations. Neurologic function was assessed according to modified Frankel’s grading. All patients were received cervical plain antero-posterior, lateral and oblique X-ray, CT with 3D and MRI of cervical spine. severity of DFI injury was assessed according to Allen and Ferguson’s classification. The most common level involved was C5-6 and most common grade was grade 3. The patients operated through anterior approach were 36 patients and through the posterior approach were 24 patients. Restoring cervical alignment was achieved in 29 patients (80.56%). The mean time of bone fusion was 5.454 months in anterior approach while it was 9.876 months in posterior approach. The extend of bone fusion was good in 30 patients (83.33%) after anterior approach and in 8 patients (33.33%) after posterior approach, while poor fusion was observed in 6 patients (16.67%) after anterior approach and 16 patients (66.67%) after posterior approach. We can conclude that anterior cervical approach is better in DFI stage 3 and 4 where there are associated ruptured intervertebral disc. Posterior approach is better in DFI stage 1 and 2 with or with presence of posterior compressing lesion.
